I know I say the same thing about every chapter but I can't help it. This is amazing...every single bit of it!! The way he put her life in front of his own melted me in seconds.. Hopefully the Echo told them the right way....and they will be there before Sol...

Holy shit Olya, these updates were epic! Seriously, they were so fucking good. I'm sorry it's taken me a while to get to reading and commenting. BUT the upside of that for me was that I got to read the next update straight after I thought you'd KILLED THOR!! Man, I really thought you'd actually done it! But poor Astrid is still in that state. As always I could totally picture every detail in my mind, you're amazing at creating the feel and look of scenes. Goes without saying that I'm waiting for more... |

Thank you!!!!!! I love you, my readers! Okay... so... lets go back to poor Astrid... XXXV. (Astrid's POV) My fogged mind rose up from the grief when the soft voice had finally broke through the thick sorrow of my bleeding with loss heart. “... when mother told me who you are...” I blinked the blurriness from my eyes, feeling that my body had almost completely returned under my control, and saw a light brown, almost golden pair of eyes in front of me. My eyes moved pass the figure in golden wraps to the rocky walls of a huge cave with a round opening in the ceiling, a pile of ashes under it. Where am I? Does it matter? No... Thor is gone and I don't care about anything without him... my life is over... it ended with his... “I've never seen a Valkyrie before...” The young woman stepped closer, but I ignored her, returning to the pain of my loss and closing my eyes. “Go away...” “I just want you to know that...” The woman's voice returned, making me open my eyes and I saw her arms pressed to her chest. “I am deeply sorry that things turned out this way... but it was done for the greater good of my people...” I swallowed, feeling the tears spilling from my eyes and looked deep into her golden eyes. “Greater good?... Do you know how many horrible things were done under the cover of those words? It never works, never. And it will not work for you. You and your people may wash the blood off their hands, but not off your blackened souls. You attacked us like cowards, many against two, an unarmed two who never meant you any harm! It wasn't a battle, it was murder. Your souls will forever be damned to Goddess Hel.” She lowered her eyes and whispered. “But we didn't have any other choice... One life, even the life of a Supreme Deity, does not outweigh the life of a whole clan... even a clan of mortals. The scarifies of one to save many is the only choice we had...” She looked back at me. “There are always other choices.” “No, not always...” The woman's eyes turned sad and she lowered her gaze again with a sigh. “That was the only choice we had. If she would've only threatened to take my life, I would've gladly given it... but she said that if we fail, we'll all die a painful death... every one of us, even the children... my mother opened my eyes to what our Goddess is really like... no one will be spared...we had to obey her order...” “Your Goddess' ordered you to...?” I narrowed my eyes at the woman in front of me, feeling a wave of anger raising up in me. Who dared to order Thor's murder? Or are Odin's enemies rising again and taking his son by someone else's hand in a cowardly set up? I pulled at my ties, feeling my jaws grind. “Name her!” I held my breath, waiting for the answer, and the woman swallowed, looking around and stepped closer, barely whispering. “Sol.” “What? Why?” I breathed out with shock and stared at the golden eyes of the girl in front of me, completely lost. “This doesn't make any sense! Why would she ask you to kill Thor? She needs him!She can't become a queen without him! Besides that, to dare to kill the Son of Odin is like declaring war on Asgard!” The girl quickly stepped back with a fear ridden face. “We didn't kill Thor... he's... he's alive... he's just trapped... it's not him she ordered us to deliver... it's you...” As the first words made their way off the girls lips, my heart jump out of the black abyss of sorrow, and a wave of now happy tears spilled out of my eyes. “He's alive! Oh thank Odin!” And at that moment the rest of the words got to me. Me... of course she wants me out of the way... but to go to so much trouble? She could've kill me herself... I'm powerless and mortal... why all this? And the answer slowly rose up in my mind. Maybe because she doesn't want Him to know it was her...? She wants him to blame some mortal tribe... which he will exterminate in his anger, smashing this mountain with his hammer... there will be no survivors... and no one will ever know it was her order... The girl opened her mouth to say something, but the door flew open, letting in the familiar glowing figure of one of Sol's maids. “Dawn! Oh, thank the Holy Power of the Sun you are okay!” Her arms wrapped around the young woman and I saw tears in her golden eyes. “Mom? Why are you here? It's not time yet...” Mom? Did she just call her mom? “You! You were the one who helped them, you were the one who paralyzed me!” I pulled on my binds and Sol's maid let go of the girl and rushed to me, dropping on her knees. “Yes, I did, I did it all to save my daughter, but now... no one can help her...” Her eyes, full of tears, slid to my tied up arms. “...No one but you! You are the only one who can stop him! Please, it wasn't her fault, she has nothing to do with it. They had no choice, Sol threatened to kill them all, starting with her. If you have to be mad at someone, take your anger out on me! Do what you want with me, but save my daughter! I beg of you!” She quickly moved to one of my hands, burning the ties off and swiftly flew to the other, doing the same. “Mom... what's happening?” Came from behind her, and Sol's maid's eyes dropped a few golden tears to the ground. “The end of the Sun worshipers... The God of Thunder... He's here. He killed everyone in the treasure room... he has a Valkyrie’s sword and his axe back...” She paused, swallowing her tears, and the young girl gripped her chest, breathing out. “My parents?” The sun ray shook her head, swallowing another wave of tears, and the young girl closed her eyes, silently weeping into her hand. She rose her head, whispering through the tears. “We started it... we are the ones who will pay the price... we dared to attempt to take a life and now our lives are taken from us...” She looked at me and her lips twitched. “You were right... we are damned...” Suddenly, we heard multiple screams in the corridor, followed by the unmistakable growl of Thor. “You're all dead if anything happened to her, you are all dead, you hear me?!” The next minute the stone door broke in half and two dead bodies in black clothing landed on the floor, followed by the God of Thunder, towering over the men hanging on his arms. He was holding my sword in one hand and a blood covered axe in the other. His eyes stopped on me and he moved his arms, sending the screaming in pain bodies flying in all directions. “Astrid! Are you okay? What did they do to you? I'll kill them all if even one hair is missing from your head!” More men poured through the open door, whips lashed out, wrapping around Thor's arms and torso, but without making even the slightest effect on his movements. Thor stepped forward, cutting his way to me as Sol's maid gripped my hand, dropping on her knees in front of me. “Save my daughter! She's everything to me! Please save her! After that I'm at you mercy, but save her!” As Thor moved closer, she jumped to her feet, pushing her daughter behind her back. Her eyes turned to me, pleading, and the thunderous voice shook the walls. “You?! It was you, the one who helped them! Lets see if what they say is true and sun rays really can't die!” He rose my sword above the woman in front of him and I screamed. “Thor, stop! Stop it! You are not raising your hand on a woman who's only trying to protect her child!” My words froze Thor's weapon in the air and he breathed in and out, slowly lowering his arm to his side. The broken doorway exploded with black figures, readying their whips, but the sun maid's daughter quickly stepped forward, raising her hands. “Stop! Everyone stop!” The figures obeyed her command, lowering their arms, and she turned to me. “You're also right about the other thing. There is always another choice, and you just showed it to me. So now I am making my choice.” She turned to her mother. “I told you that before, but you didn't want to listen to me and I stepped back and allowed for all this to happen, because I couldn't bear to see your tears. I know you're only trying to protect me, protect us, save the people you were always watching over. But you can't save us this way. I'm sorry, mother.” Sol's maiden gripped her daughter's hand, but the young girl shook her head and turned to the crowd. “We were always a peaceful people, that is why our ancestors moved here, into these hills, to get away from the madness of the rest of the world. We took oath to never take a life of another human, oath that our hands and our souls would never be blackened by the blood of others. We praised life above all other things, we lived and prayed to one Deity, who we thought was all about life. The one who we thought was giving live to everything around us. But we were wrong... if she ordered us to capture this woman... a Valkyrie, so she can take her life... but her blood will be on our hands, on our souls, if we do that. So hear me, people of the Golden Hills. I, Dawn, the Highest Priestess of the Sun, choose to disobey my Goddess, because her order goes against my most precious belief. I refuse to take life and refuse to help someone else to take life, to save my own. I am willing to die for my beliefs. At least my soul will be untouched by evil. I can't and I won't order you to stand down. If you believe that your life is more valuable than the life of this woman, then you can try to get her, and maybe lose your life in process at the hand of this man, who will protect her with all the power he has. It's your time to decide what's right. Every single one of you have to make their own decision.” I looked at the painted black faces and saw movement, Thor stepped to my side, handing me my sword, but I lowered it and placed my weapon on the ground, stepping back. “What are you doing?” Thor turned to me, gripping his axe tighter. The eyes of black figures slowly moved from my sword to Thor's hand with the axe. And I touched his forearm. “Let it go. Trust me, let it go.” He narrowed his eyes at the crowd, releasing a low growl, then dropped his axe by his feet. |

I loved the idea of hearing Thor coming along, smashing the shit out of everyone on his way! 'Suddenly, we heard multiple screams in the corridor, followed by the unmistakable growl of Thor.' Yeah, I know that growl!

Thank you girls, you are too kind!!!! I love you! Okay, so lets continue where we left off, but lets see it with James'... I mean Thor's eyes. (Thor's POV) As soon as my weapon dropped, I saw movement in the crowd and my mind sprinted, screaming 'you are an idiot!' but the hands in black wraps slowly started moving off their whip handles, one by one, and the crowd rendered, stepping back. Astrid stepped forward, looking at the young girl. “I will stay willingly, to save you and your people. And this time it is my choice.” “Like Hel, you are!” I picked up my axe and Astrid shook her head. “Thor... There is very slim chance that seed would work. I am mortal, I lost my grace, my honor and my immortality, but if I let these people die because of me, I will lose much more than that. I will lose my soul. Go back to Asgard, back to your life, thank you for being my friend, thank you for trying, but there is nothing you can do now.” “I thought I would never say these words to a Valkyrie, but you are wrong, my Goddess.” The satyr appeared in the clearing between us and the sun worshipers, limping his way between the opposite lines, and the cave came alive with multiple gasps of shock. Gemon stopped a few feet away from Astrid and bent in a deep bow, placing his hand over his chest in the sign of the deepest respect. “You never lost your grace or your honor, and you just proved it.” I stepped to Astrid, taking her hand in mine. “Gemon can get us out of here.” Astrid let go of my hand and sighed. “Don't you get it, Thor? I can't let these people die because of me, no more than I can let this satyr be punished because he helped me.” “Astrid! You are coming with me. Gemon, I'm ordering you to take us away. You can tell my mother that I made you help her, that I held a sword to your neck.” “Thor, it won't change the fact that Sol will kill all these people! I can't let them die!” “Why? They are just mortals! They will die anyway!” “So am I! I'm a mortal. My life is not any more valuable than each one of theirs!” Astrid looked into my eyes and read it loud and clear, there is nothing I can do to change her mind. “Fine. If you stay, I'll stay.” I bent down, picking up the Valkyrie’s sword. “I won't let Sol harm you. I will kill her.” Astrid turned to me, shaking her head again. “As much as I hate the bitch, I can't let you do that. Without Sol, the Sun's chariot can't fly, all the worlds will fall into darkness, and a great number of lives will be lost in never ending cold night. You can't kill her... I will stay and maybe I can talk to her...” Astrid started but Eos pulled on her arm, turning her. “Talk will do you no good, your Grace... she's furious with you. I know her... she will not listen, and will not hesitate to kill you. She wants you dead! Her ego is hurt, not to mention that Mani dared her to kill you... feeding her craving for revenge!” “What revenge she can possibly seek from me? I never did anything to her! I barely even spoke to her, but even if I somehow offended her, I'm mortal how, I'm out of Asgard, I'm punished by the Gods, isn’t that enough?” “No! No matter what, you are always be the woman Thor pushed her away for!” As sun ray's words left her lips, I felt a my heart skip. Shit... not the way she was supposed to find out... fuck... I breathed in, trying to get Sol's maid attention, waving my hands at her behind Astrid's back, but sun ray didn't notice it and continued. “She did something she has never done before, she lowered herself to coming to Thor and offering herself to him. And he refused her because he loves you! That is why she wants you dead.” “What did you just say?” Astrid stepped back from Sol's maid and the sun ray finally saw my silent protest and stuttered, stepping back with a deep bow. “I... I just.... I thought you knew... that he's...” She stepped back, turning pale and bend her head to me in a deep bow. “I'm so sorry my Lord, I... didn't know she doesn't know...” Astrid slowly turned to me. “Is that true... what she just said?” I breathed in and stepped closer to her, looking straight into her widened eyes. “I love you Astrid, I always have... and I'm sorry I never opened up.. I just... I should've told you a long time ago... I'm sorry...” I watched her eyes darkening, and swallowed in panic. She's... she's angry with me... I was wrong... she doesn't feel anything more than friendship... a friendship I just ruined... As if in answer to my thoughts I heard her tensed up voice. “Sorry? Son Of Odin, you haven't even began to be sorry! You mean all this time you were pretending? Pretending to be my friend? For hundreds of years, you lied to me? Do you have the slightest idea how much torture you put me through?! Making me watch you dating those shining bimbos one after another, after another?! When I had to constantly be on alert, watching my words, making sure that my feelings would not accidentally slip out! Do you know how difficult it was to hide my love from everyone, my friends, my sisters and especially from you?!” Love...? She's... she's... I felt the floor moving from under my feet as my heart leapt up. My head spun, watching my little Valkyrie’s eyes filling up with tears. My arms moved on their own, flying to the sides of her head, and I stepped forward, taking her lips with mine. Her hands slid on my chest, lightly pushing away, but her body shivered in my arms as our kiss deepened, and her hands slid up, wrapping around my neck and taking my breath away with overwhelming happiness. Time froze, the worlds stopped turning, all the realms and everyone around us ceased to exists. There was only the two of us, united in a kiss, holding each other close in the bliss of this moment, that was nothing like anything I'd ever felt before. It was so powerful, so euphoric, but reality yanked my head back to the ground with a light cough of Gemon. “I wish that would be the happy ending of all of this, Son of Odin... my Grace... but... we don't have much time... noon is closing upon us, so is Sol.” Astrid pulled back and I read deep pain in her eyes as she whispered. “At least in the end I can tell you how much I love you...” “Then you know that I can't let you die.” I felt my heart bleeding, pushing tears to my eyes. “I will kill Sol, I will do anything to save my you, to protect you. Anything.” “But if you put thousands, millions to death by protecting me, you won't be a man I love no longer... you can't save love by destroying love of others...” Astrid signed and I gazed into the lakes of clear deep blue in front of me and at that moment I heard a quiet whipping around us. A few people were kneeling by the dead bodies of their lost loved ones, and I swallowed, feeling a lump in my throat. I did that... I closed my eyes, remembering my rage through the corridors, faces of people struck by my weapons... I caused their pain, because I was blinded by mine... I have to fix it... I have to find a way... to fix it all. I will not let anyone else die today. I rose my head, swallowing. “I'm so sorry, many of your loved ones died by my hand... you must hate me...” The young girl, who called herself Dawn looked at me and shook her head. “You were only a hand of the fate... like she said... we took your love away and you fought to get it back... we made the wrong choice... protecting what we love... and trying to destroy yours... and we paid for it.” Her words hang in the suddenly thickened air. I tried to breathe in but I couldn't, my heart skipped and trembled in my chest and then came back with slow sickly weak beats. I looked into Astrid's eyes and at that moment I knew, she was right... I would turn into a greater monster then Fenrir if I save her at the price of end of all worlds... Gemon stroked his beard, then moved his hand to his mead-filled pouch, and a completely out of place in this grim atmosphere smile appeared on his face as he winked at me and turned to Sol's maid. “Eos, if I'm not mistaken? Tell me, do other rays and Sol know how many people live here?” “I don't think so... none of them ever came here... it was always only me...” Eos lowered her feet to the ground, moving her eyes from Astrid to Gemon and me and back to Gemon. “There are great number of dead bodies in the halls...So if the survivors leave, no one would notice. And no one would suspect anything if you tell Sol that Thor killed them all.” “They do know about Dawn... and know she looks like me...” Gemon rose his eyes at the High Priestess and she stepped forward. “If you have a way of getting my people out, I'll stay... and...” Eos flew in front of her daughter. “No! No, I won't let you! I can't let you!” “Yooouuu.... yooouuuuu...” Bounced off the walls, like a wolf's howl and Eos jumped up, shaking. “Wolves... you brought Odin's wolves too?” I looked at Astrid and she looked at me and both of us jumped up with the same smiles on our faces. “That's it!” I laughed and she joined me. “Odin's wolves!!!” “No one saw me coming here alone, you are the only one who witness of what happened here, right?” I turned to Sol's maid. “No other rays were watching where their lights were shining, I was the only one here physically, but I haven't seen any wolves...” “But you can tell them that Thor came with Odin's wolves!” Astrid smiled. “... and that they swallowed the rest of the sun worshipers, including Dawn! That is why their bodies are missing!” I joined my little Valkyrie and Eos' face lit up. “That might just work, it will also get her out of here faster, she won't search this place, she and all the sun rays afraid wolves! That deep fear started when Odin said something about a big wolf that will swallow the Sun at Ragnarok!” “But how can you get my people out of here in such a short time? Sol will be here in a matter of minutes!” Dawn rose her voice and the satyr took his bag off his belt. “Simple. With my bag. And I think I know just the place for you... I have a cousin who is taking care of the Black Forest in the west... it's big and it's called Black because of the dense cover from the foliage of the tall evergreen trees.” “That's true! We never see into the Black Forest, I know where it is! My sisters always avoid it! It would be the perfect place.” “Does that mean.. I would never see you again?” Dawn whispered and Eos flew to her. “All I want is to know you are safe, when it's all over and forgotten, I'll find you, I promise.” “We have to hurry. Eos, how much time do we have?” Gemon opened his bag. The sun ray rose her head to the ceiling, closing her eyes, then looked at us and swallowed. “She will be here in less than half an hour...” “Gemon? How much time do you need?” I turned to the Satyr and he scratched his head. “I've never tried transporting humans before... but I once carried a herd of deer that were pushed to the cliffs by the wild fire... all we can do is see how many will fit... plus two or so can hold onto me. But they have to be strong and not let go out of fear. Every jump will take a few minutes at most, plus the time of entering and exiting the bag...” The young girl turned to her people. “Search all corners, find everyone, bring them here. Each group will go with two men for protection, they will hold onto Gemon. Children and the elderly will go first, then the women the rest of us. I'll stay here and leave with the last group.” “Why with the last group? You are a woman, almost a child!” Eos jumped to her daughter, but the Highest Priestess gripped her mother's shoulders. “I will leave with the last of my people, because I should've never agreed with your plan to begin with, I should've thought of other ways, other choices, I should've protected my people. I am their leader and I almost doomed them all, because I was weak. But I'm not weak anymore.” |

Thank you Tiff!!!! Glad to see you back! Okay, so, here is the rest of that chapter! (continue of Thor's POV) Motion filled the cave, as my mind drifted into my thoughts. Strange how everything can change so quickly... A few days ago, not even days, minutes, I wouldn't give a fuck about some humans. They are called mortals for a reason after all, they die. I always thought they are beneath us, not worthy, except for a few honored warriors, and even they are only tools for the future, highly trained, valued weapons, nothing more... More so, a few minutes ago, I was ready to kill them all... and now I'm in the middle of this commotion, helping them, holding the side of the bag, hurrying people in, worrying that we are running out of time... what happened? Did the fact that the one I love turned mortal change my perspective? Did the loss of my powers make me look at the world of mortals through their eyes? Or did the gesture, the decision of this clan, the pain for their lost loved ones that I caused show me that we are not so different after all...? Gemon's voice dropped me out of my thoughts when he closed his bag, handing me the invisibility cloak. “Here, I know a Valkyrie would never change her mind, but she was also wrong about one other thing. I would've helped her, I would've died for her. This will protect you both from Sol's eyes and her fire.” “I guess that would be one more thing I was wrong about... I always thought that all nature spirits don't like me and my sisters... you never come close, always avoid us...” Astrid stepped form behind me and Gemon smiled, lowering his head in front of her. “We just don't dare to come close to something that we take as sacred. You are merged with the seeds of the Tree of Life, therefore you are as holy to us as Yggdrasil itself. ” The satyr smiled and bowed again, then picked up his bag and winked at me. “At least, that is how it was before today... I see one other God with that potential..." You son of a... you had this way out all along and you didn't say nothing until the last moment... The satyr smiled and his eyes moved to Astrid, then back to me. He wanted to push me... to tell her... he knew how she felt... Gemon bowed again to the Astrid and continued. “There was only one God who I respected as much as Valkyries...” Gemon glanced my way and lowered his head to me. “Until today.” You old goat... you also waited to save the day, waiting for me to grow up... to turn from the boy who had it all at his will and always done as he pleased, into a real man... a true Son of Odin... “I owe you.” I smiled back and his smile widened. “I'll get the best story of all to tell on the gatherings, out of all of this. You owe me nothing future King of Gods.” It took Gemon three trips to carry most of the people out with only a handful left when Eos suddenly looked up, eyes wide. “Oh no! They're here!” She looked at her daughter with panic on her face. I quickly unwrapped the cloak. “Everyone, in here, quickly, we can fit if we stretch it against this wall! Hold the ends to the ground and to the rocks, don't leave any openings!” “I'll try to hold them up!” Eos flew up, vanishing into the opening in the ceiling. Just as the last hand pushed the stretched the fabric to the floor, the cave lit up with a bright light and three orbs flew into the opening. Eos stepped out of her ray and two others circled the cave and flew into the hallway, vanishing from our view right before the cave burst with a blinding beam of light. “What do you mean, she escaped?!!” Sol's voice shook the rocks. Eos quickly glanced in our direction and dropped on her knees in front of her red-faced Mistress, all teary eyed. “Thor killed them all, he saved his Valkyrie! There was nothing we could do!” The two orbs came back through the door and landed on the ground, letting out the figures of two other maids. “Looks like she's telling the truth, the corridors are full of dead bodies.” “And her daughter?” “She's not among the dead, my Goddess. I personally checked every single corpse.” One of the sun maids glared at Eos. “Bring me your daughter now!” “She's gone! My beautiful baby, she was killed!” Eos dropped her face into her hands, weeping. “You are lying to me! You hid her somewhere! I will burn every single rock in here, I will send rays all over this realm and when I find her I will take my time killing her!” “I'm not lying! Thor wasn't alone! He came with Odin's wolves! They ripped apart and swallowed the rest of the clan, no one survived! My beautiful daughter was swallowed by one of those wolves right in front of my eyes!” “Who cares about some half breed! My plans are ruined! My revenge is taken away from me! Not to mention that Mani will now be dancing a victory dance, laughing at me! You were supposed to deliver me my victory and you failed me!” “She's lying. How could a powerless Thor get Odin's wolves here from Asgard?” One of the rays narrowed her eyes at Eos. “I don't know! Maybe it was Odin... Someone was helping him, someone let him out of the trap I set for him, someone with great powers!” As her words left her lips a distant howl echoed through the caves. “Oh, no! The wolves are still here! We have to go!” Eos made a shocked face, and two other rays quickly looked around, stepping back. One of them, who stayed silent to this moment, whispered. “My Goddess... remember the prophecy? A wolf can swallow the Sun! Odin's wolves are protected by his magic, you will be powerless in front of them... Lets leave this horrid place.” Another howl followed her words and Sol stepped back too, spitting out in Eos direction. “You failed me! You will stay here and burn this place until nothing is left, then you will return with the sunset and surrender your ray. You'll spend the rest of your miserable life cleaning the wheels of my chariot and will never be allowed to see any worlds, you will--” Another howl broke through Sol's voice, sounding closer this time, and the maids quickly turned into orbs, flying out of the opening. Sol looked around, then glared at Eos and hissed. “I hope that you end up as a wolf's chew toy, too bad I can't stay and watch.” With those words she burst into flames, leaving the cave like an overheated rocket, leaving behind a cloud of fiery smoke. A few minutes later Eos sighed and slowly stood up. “They left... it's safe to come out.” I let go of my end of the cloak, and Dawn rushed to her mother, embracing her in a hug. I wrapped my arms around Astrid and she smiled, turning to me, but just as our lips touched, Gemon's grumpy voice made both of us smile and pull away. “I thought she would never leave!” “Yes, I have the same thought about everyone in here.” I muttered under my breath and Astrid smiled. “Everyone?” “Everyone who interrupts our kissing...” I pulled her closer. “Great job with the howling!” Eos smiled at Gemon and he frowned. “It wasn't me... I came in after I saw her leave... Echo must've just repeated her words, that sounded like howls... okay, so lets get the rest of you to your new home.” Gemon opened his bag and Dawn whispered something to Eos. The Sun maid shook her head, then whispered something back, looking at us, and Dawn embraced her in a hug, then smiled and quickly ran out of the cave. Eos breathed in and out and helped Gemon hold the bag open as the remaining people started to vanish into the dark blue fog inside of the magic bag. I pulled Astrid back to me, breathing in the smell of her hair. “I love you and I will bring you back to Asgard, I promise.” (Astrid's POV) Thor's lips whispered into my ear and I bit my lip. Don't promise... it may not work... and even if it does... I did what I did... and other Gods can refuse to let me back in... and if that's the case, I have to make you go back to your life without me... I have to make you forget me... let go of me... and unfortunately the only way to make you go back... is for me to die... but not yet... we do have some time to spend together... a short time to be happy... and then... when the time comes and the seed doesn't work... I breathed in and swallowed, pushing my tears away. A short time, but it will be the best time of my life. I turned, burrowing my face into the strong chest of the one I always loved. “Dammit...” Thor growled and I pulled away, watching Dawn approaching us. She stopped a few feet away and lowered herself on one knee, pressing her hands in front of her, palms together, and looked at me. “Forgive me for interrupting your happiness... but my mother said that it would be better for you two to stay here till sunset... away from her sisters eyes... This will help you to make your way inside of the canyon.” She pulled a rolled scroll out of her sleeve, handing it to me. “It's a map of the forbidden pathways that lead out of this place. It was made by our elders, who led us here... It should lead you through the caves to the far North opening at the bottom. From there you can continue your journey.” “Thank you, Dawn.” I smiled at the golden eyes and she bowed again. “No... thank you. You taught me a great lesson and you saved my people, this is least I can do to repay you.” “You don't owe me anything and you don't have to bow to me, if anyone deserves this gratitude it's the Satyr, he did all the work.” “And my people and I am most grateful to him for that, but you gave me something else. You showed me that when we make our choices, it doesn't matter if those choices are made out of love or out of fear, there are no excuses, and no exceptions. The only true choice is between good and evil, and in the end it's our choices that make us who we are. I thank you for that wisdom, my Goddess.” She bowed and I smiled, pulling her up and looking into her eyes. “I'm not a Goddess, Dawn.” “You are to me.” She stepped back with another bow, then looked at Thor and gave him a light bow, before stepping back to her mother. But I'm not... and most likely will never even come back as a Demigod... I sighed, feeling Thor's hand pulling me closer, his lips whispered by my ear. “Goddess or not, you are the future queen of Asgard.” I bit my lip, holding my tears back and pulled Thor's arms around me. |

It's been too long since I commented on this fic, but I never have the time to write everything I want to, so this one will be short too, but I simply have to point this out: so much death and destruction but at the same time: love is born and sealed forever, making one spoiled son of god become a man, the proper heir to the throne, the next God of Gods, his Valkyrie growing to deity in his eyes and the eyes of mortals she saved it is not the light of the evil sun that will save them, it is love and friendship, wisdom and sacrifice, the pledge that he will make her his queen. curvy narrow forbidden paths leading them to new beginnings and hopefully new meetings... Beautiful, poetic, wonderful I love your writing more with every new chapter

Thank yo girls!!!! You made my day! And Boooo!!! I'm so happy to see you back! Ready for the next chapter? XXXVI. (Thor's POV) We made our way down to the deepest levels, highlighting our way with the torches. Somewhere above us the stones were crackling with heat as Eos sealed the the top parts of the canyon, turning it into a tomb, a final resting place of many... too many, sun worshipers that fell by my hand. For the first time in my life I felt a pin of guilt for my actions. Yes, they were just mortals... yes, they had numbers on their side, yes, I was unarmed at first... but even with all that... they were no match for me. Even without my powers I was stronger. They had her... they had my little Valkyrie and that's why I didn't even think of trying to talk, trying to reason... I slammed into their caves, killing everyone who tried to stop me, anyone in my way, smashing their heads into the rocky walls... in my blind rage, fueled by fear for my love. And even after I saw Astrid alive I couldn't stop my anger.. she had to stop me... and if she hadn't..? Was I really going to strike Sol's unarmed maid in front of me? In my fury I would've... Would've I truly damn all the realms into a darkness to save my love? To kill millions to save her? I would've... in heat of the anger and fear for her life I would've kill Sol... because before today I never saw into the future, never thought of what my actions lead to... Was I always like that? So short minded? Cold and brutal? Or more like hotheaded to the point of overheating into a completely mindless killing machine? I never cared to tame my anger, anyone who brought it upon them paid dearly... sometimes with their lives. I was always like that... never stepped back, never let anyone to have upper hand, never let anyone to push me down. I always thought that the power brings you respect, brings you everything... that is why I questioned my father's decision to make a peace treaty with the defeated enemies instead of erasing them all... I thought it was a weak move... only now I understand it was the strongest move of all. It would've been easy to kill their world... it was much harder to see what it will brings you... stop yourself before you turn into a monster... Thank Odin Astrid stopped me. She was always the only one who could do that... it's like she's the voice of my conscience. She could stop me even in a full blown rage... “Okay... so the map says to go left, then turn right, go down for two more levels, and then turn right. Then, in about fifty feet there will be a big cave with an opening covered by a waterfall. We're almost there!” My little Valkyrie, who held an astounding power to stop a raging tornado with just a few words, looked up from the map and smiled. My little Valkyrie... I repeated the words in my mind and smiled. Now she is mine, all mine. “And that's where we'll wait for sunset. We have quite a few hours, we can eat the food that the sun worshipers gave us and... maybe even take a little nap...” “Riiight... a nap. You just can't wait to pull me into your bed.” She smirked at me and I pouted. “Oh come on! I've waited for hundreds of years!” “And who's fault is that? Maybe I should punish you for that and make you wait a little bit longer.” She glared at me, trying to look angry, but broke down with a laugh. “I'm just kidding. I waited for hundreds of years to finally be able to say yes to you, and finally find out what all those people rave about... when they talk about sex.” She smiled and I saw something I'd never seen on her face before. A mix of shyness and almost fear. “Wait... you mean... you've never...? Not even once...? Not even... like... half way... a little play.. you know...?” “I was kissed for the first time in my life today. Does that answer all of your questions?” She smiled at me and quickly turned, vanishing further into the darkness of the tight corridor, flickering with the light of the torch. I released a half moan, half growl and sprinted ahead, chasing after her. (Lana's POV) As the day rolled over noon I almost completely forgot about our morning embarrassment. Jason started asking about my land and I happily submerged into endless babble, telling him everything I knew about my life and my people... well... the people I grew up with. The only parts I skipped were the personal parts about my childhood, the last thing I wanted was to make him think that I was some kind of a freak. I just said that I always loved trees and plants and that's why I got mad at him when he was cutting off a branch for the fire last night. Other than that, I painted a happy picture of a normal human's life, saying that I ran away only because I didn't wanted to marry someone I didn't love. I didn't say a word about Sig for the same reason, there was no way of mentioning her without explaining how I found her or our separation and why I left that farm in such a hurry. I said that I was traveling North to the village I lived in before, to stay with my friend Radda. In my story, she ended up as just a friendly neighbor, a healer, who preferred to live alone beyond the forest. I said nothing about her wolves... not just because I didn't want to remind Jason of his hunt, but because I didn't want to get angry at him again. I didn't want to remember that this smiling, blue-eyed young man was a wolf hunter. I also ended up lying that I lost my luggage while running away from a bear and had no way to go back to look for it, since I got stuck on the tree, hiding all night from the vikings that managed to place their camp around the tree I was hiding in. We talked about the lake, about the forest and it felt so easy to talk to him. I thought he felt the same, but when I asked him about his land, he grew quiet, then said that he will tell me all about it later, right now he wanted to know more about this land. Completely lost in our conversation, we came out to the wide river that crossed our way. It was simply too wide and too deep to try to cross right where it was flowing into the lake, so we decided to go up stream to find a better place to get to the other side. Soon, the terrain changed, rising above the river, which narrowed and cut into the land with a greatly increased current. As we continued our way up the river, I found myself smiling more than usual. I knew that this unexpected delay in my journey North should've upset me, but, the truth was... it didn't. Somehow, I was glad that we stumbled upon this river, glad that we couldn't get across, so when we came out to an old looking bridge, I didn't join Jason in his happy 'woohoo.' “Are you sure it will hold us?” My eyes slid over the well-weathered ropes, stopping on a few gaps of missing boards. “We can try.” “I don't know.... it looks ancient...” “There are no other options. I doubt that you will let me cut a big tree down and use that as a bridge. So this is all we have. I'll go first to make sure it's okay.” He smiled at me and probed the first board with his foot, then took a few careful steps. When he was a bit over the middle he turned to me. “Seems okay, wait till I get to the other side and then go. Just keep your hands on the ropes and go slow, avoid the cracked boards. And don't look down.” When he safely stepped onto solid ground, giving me an encouraging smile, I pushed myself to place my hands on the rough rope rails. Okay... if he can do it, I can do it.... one step at a time... My foot carefully touched the first board, finding it sturdy enough, and I lifted my other foot, moving it to the second board. When I was almost there, I saw movement in the bushes behind Jason. There was a loud roar of a bear followed by a low and deep growl. Never in my life have I heard anything so intimidating and scary. Something big was moving, covered by the dense and tall vegetation, making the trees shake. As I stepped off the bridge, Jason pushed me behind him, pulling out his sword and pointing it at the forest in front of us. “You said the biggest predators in this land are bears, right?” “It was a grizzly bear roar... but the growl... it doesn't sound like a bear... it sounds like it came from something much bigger...” “How big?” Jason gripped his sword tighter, following the movement in the bushes with it. The monstrous growl repeated and we heard another roar and then a whining cry, followed by the sound of thumping paws, as something big ran away. I gripped at Jason’s shoulder and whispered. “Big enough to send a grizzly running scared...” At that moment, a big and absolutely beautiful white wolf jumped out of the bushes and Jason breathed out. “You!” (Balder's POV) I was about to lower my sword, happy to see the familiar face of Geri, but Lana suddenly jumped between me and the wolf. She pulled something off the end of her braid and lifted her hand with the bluish strip of fabric in front of me. Her green eyes darkened. “You are not going to hurt him! I won't let you!” Geri immediately jumped into the bushes and I stepped forward, after him. “Oh no you don't!” At that moment Lana's hand touched mine and the ribbon in her hand burst with blue light with the power of an explosion. My head spun and the shredded by blue sparks darkness swallowed everything around... |

^^^ Thank you! You made my day! Now I'm back into the mood and here is the rest of that chapter! (Continue of Balder's POV) I was running through the Great Garden with Geri and Freki at my side, making my way to the small vine covered cabin. Even from far away I could hear Aegle's voice singing a beautiful lullaby. I reached the doorway and carefully pushed the flower curtain open, whispering. “Aegle...” “Balder! I'm so happy to see you!” She flew to me and picked me up, then put me down on my feet, her green eyes smiling at me. “Do you want to see her?” “Can I?” “Sure! There she is. My Nanna.” I peeked over the side of the crib, through the curtain of softly glowing blue flowers and a smaller copy of Aegle's green eyes looked back at me. “She's so little... I made her a birthday present! Dad said newborn Nymphs don't have any powers yet, so I made this. It will protect her.” I pulled a blue ribbon out of my pocket. “Why, it's beautiful!” “My Mom helped me, she cut the Elf's silk, but I made the spell myself! It will protect Nanna until I'm bigger and then I can protect her.” “With you as her protector I will never have to worry about my daughter.” Aegle smiled, kissing my cheek. “Go ahead, you can put it on her wrist for now, I'm afraid her hair is not long enough yet.” The green eyes of the Nymph sparkled, and the background of the house slowly vanished. Aegle smiled, turning almost completely transparent, before melting away with the rest of the picture. I was standing by my father's side, in front of the burned down cabin. Weeping, full of sadness and grief, hung in the darkened air around us. The whole garden, which I'd visited only a few hours earlier had changed. The flowers weren't glowing as always and looked wilted, the trees had lost their leaves; for the first time in my life I saw the Forbidden Garden look like it was dying. One of my father's guards made his way to us. “My God, it looks like no one survived. The Nymphs think that they haven't felt the child's spirit joining with the Tree of Life because she was only a few hours old. But we found this.” I saw a frost covered leaf in the guard's hand. “Jotuns...” I heard my father sigh. “Do you think it's a sign of war?” “No... an action of a coward to provoke it...... Saddle Sleipnir, I must speak with Laufey.” “Why didn't it work? I made it to protect her and it didn't...” I whispered, feeling my eyes clouding with tears. “It should've worked...” The picture blackened, pulling away, and a heavy pounding in my head turned everything red, then green, and the face of Aegle smiled at me through the fog. “With you as her protector, I will never have to worry about my daughter.” The voice flew over me, the darkness pulled away, and I opened my eyes to the weird blue and starless sky above me. I sat up, rubbing my forehead, and my eyes stopped on the blue ribbon in the hand of the young woman by my side. My eyes moved to her face... the face of a younger version of Aegle. I swallowed. No one felt her spirit returning to Yggdrasil together with her parents... because she didn't die with them... (Lana's POV) My body jerked back, falling to the ground as the blue light lashed out, pushing my mind into a darkening tunnel. The sides of the tunnel turned and twisted, making my body move in a rocking motion and bloomed with glowing blue flowers. A beautiful song carried me and slowly laid on something unbelievably soft. The song grew closer but was stopped by a whisper. “Aegle...” “Balder! I'm so happy to see you!” The figure behind the blue flowers moved. “Do you want to see her?” “Can I?” “Sure! There she is. My Nanna.” A little boy's face with big blue eyes peeked through the flower curtain and his lips moved. “She's so little... I made her a birthday present! Dad said newborn Nymphs don't have any powers yet, so I made this. It will protect her.” “Why, it's beautiful!” “My Mom helped me, she cut the Elf's silk, but I made the spell myself! It will protect Nanna until I'm bigger and then I can protect her.” “With you as her protector I will never have to worry about my daughter.” The woman smiled, kissing boy's cheek. “Go ahead, you can put it on her wrist for now, I'm afraid her hair is not long enough yet.” The flower curtain pulled away and small hands gripped at the side of the crib, pulling the boy higher. He balanced his stomach on the side and reached his hands with a shimmering blue fabric to my wrist, wrapping it around it. “Happy birthday, Nanna.” His blue eyes smiled. Blue eyes.... blue ribbon... Balder... My mind fogged up, pulling me away, and the darkness slowly opened up, swallowing everything around. Motion slowly stopped and a woman's scream, full of pain, cut through the suddenly cold air. The blue flowers moved, shivering and wilting. Frost took over, quickly crawling over the sides of my cradle, and I screamed, but my voice got stuck somewhere in my throat as a blood covered tip of a sword pushed through the curtain. “Shut up!” A low and absolutely creepy voice growled somewhere beyond my vision and the sword withdrew, leaving a thick wall of ice over the opening. I cried again, feeling a deep sorrow, hearing the voice of the woman ringing in my ears, but my voice never made it out of the ice imprisoning my cradle. I felt movement, as if someone lifted me up. The walls shook, then darkened, and then shaking followed by a hectic bouncing. I couldn't see anything but darkness. I wanted to stand up and run away, but my body was helpless to do anything more than unsteadily move my arms and legs on the frozen sides of the crib. Fear was making my heart beat fast, pushing tears to my eyes. I was helpless, weak, and absolutely terrified. The movements finally stopped with a rough hit somewhere below me, and I heard a deep hoarse voice. “Thanks to me, Jotunheim will rise to glory!” “What have you done now?” An older, and clearly irritated voice answered. “I've got this!” I saw a flash of light and the ice melted away, taking with it the dead blue flowers of the curtain. Through the opening I saw a huge and absolutely white room with a tall ceiling covered in icicles and a giant dark blue figure in a silver cape on a monstrous throne made of crystals. The figure stood up, quickly moving my way, and big glowing, white eyes neared the opening. A deafening growl shook the room. “You idiot! You have no idea what you have done! You brought war on our realm! And we are not ready for war!” “She can find the seed for us, father! With the seed's energy we can beat them!” “A Seed? You are an absolute moron! Even if she can find it, no one but the chosen one can touch the seed, much less unlock it's energy! Or did you forget what happened to Surn?” “She is a Royal Nymph! She will unlock it for us with her power!” “She's nothing but a helpless newborn, you shit head! She has no power! And what are we supposed to do with her until then? All Nymphs are connected, sooner or later they will feel where she is! Get rid of her, get her off my world!” “I can't take her back... they will be there waiting for me. What should I do?” “Now you want my guidance? Why didn't you ask me before you acted like a halfwit?!” “Should I kill her?” “Do you have any brains at all? Think Grundroth, if she dies, her spirit will return to the Sacred Tree. They will trace where it came from, you fool!” “Then what?” The white eyes returned, and a hand glowing with white scripture pushed through the opening, but stopped a few inches away from me and withdrew. The figure stepped away from my vision and I heard his voice. “Hide her somewhere in human's realm. Take this, it will freeze her as she is for a thousand years.” “Good plan! We can get her back later and... wait... but she'll still be a baby... and we'll have to wait till she grows up to use her, and--” “You moron! I'm not planning to use her, I'm just covering up for your deed! In thousand years, when this potion wears off, no one will be looking for a baby, if they'll be looking for her at all! She will perish in Midgard, she's a new born, she will not remember anything! Now, take this abomination off my realm! And Grundroth, don't screw this up. Make sure to destroy the crib, so nothing points to who she really is. And no more idiotic plans!” “Yes, father.” The darkness came back as the cold shred covered the world from me once more. The motion repeated, throwing my body around the cradle, I heard whistling sounds, loud growling, and roars. At one time the blackness pulled away and I saw huge leather-like wings among the stars. They went up and down, and behind the wing I saw the horrid scaly head of a huge beast with horns and a half open mouth full of sharp teeth. The wind pushed the darkness back, covering the view of the hideous creature and I heard the voice of my captor. “There! Right there, see that split mountain peak? Land there.” A loud roar followed and the voice rose up. “I know what my father said, but I'd rather hide her somewhere I can remember, just in case. Plus this mountain holds a huge frozen lake, inaccessible to anyone. No one will ever find her here. No one but me.” The roar repeated and soon a heavy thump shook the crib. The darkness pulled away, opening the view of a strange sky full of small stars, and under it a broken mountain top, covered in snow. My captor put the crib on the icy rock and rose his hand above the smooth icy surface. A beam of light spat out from his palm, blowing the snow away and opening the glistening ice. It pushed further, cutting a tunnel in the frozen lake. Then he lowered himself to me, stretching his hand with a script covered ice crystal into my crib. “Meet your new home, for the next thousand years.” I felt a wave of horror as his fingers drew closer. I closed my eyes, frantically moving my hands and screaming my lungs out, and suddenly, as his hand touched me, I saw a burst of blue light. “You little bitch!” The loud voice barked back and the crystal with the dangerous fluid fell out of his hand somewhere under me as the giant gripped his hand, stepping back. The blue light grew out of the ribbon on my wrist, covering the giant in a bubble, and he gripped at his throat, falling over. His legs rose in the air, kicking the crib and it flew up. As it turned, I saw a rocky ridge coming at me fast and closed my eyes. At the last moment, before landing my cradle turned up right, landing roughly on smooth snow, and almost immediately started sliding backwards and down with quickly increasing speed. Somewhere on the ridge I saw a flash of big wings and a monstrous horned head rising up the air, shaking with a loud roar. Powerful claws dug into the snowy ridge, crushing it and breaking a big slice of ice off, and it slid down, chasing after me. The wave of out of control snow grew taller, roaring and angrily spitting up frozen chunks of icy boulders. Somewhere behind it I saw leather wings, the mouth full of hideous teeth reaching toward me, but the wave pushed my cradle down, making it roll and throwing my body from side to side. My chariot jumped up, breaking in half and falling apart, and my body hung in the air for a second, before plunging back to the snow. The blue light of my ribbon pulsated, rushing up and covering the beast chasing after me in a cloud of bright blue sparkles, and the monstrous body dropped, quickly devoured by the furious snow wave. I saw a pair of blue eyes on a face with a halo of chestnut curls. The boy, that my mother called Balder, smiled at me. “It will protect you.” Balder... I felt a strong hit as my body landed on the quickly moving snow, and the blue light rushed to me, lashing out to multiple icy boulders in the air above me. A broken piece of the crystal with the white glowing scripture flew just a few inches above me, lightly touching my face and a numbingly cold drops landed on my skin, freezing my mind. The blue light flickered and went off, as the avalanche swallowed my suddenly numb body, pushing me into soundless darkness. I felt my head pounding and slowly opened my eyes, stumbling on a very familiar blue gaze. I sat up, moving my eyes to the long chestnut curls and looked back into the eyes of the young man in front of me. My lips moved at the same time with his. “Balder...?” “Nanna...?” |

So I show up to leave a comment on the previous chapter and I find a fresh update! How telepathic is that?! and it's Jason!!!! Actually yes, I know, it's Balder, but it's the honest, loving, protective, giving, kind Jason!!!! I am melting here. Seriously. Melting!!! I absolutely loved the parallel POVs, and then their voices united in the last line, their real names on each other's lips, the eyes as the ultimate recognition, those mirrors of one's soul, the keepers of warmth melting the ice of forced oblivion. Beautiful! Every line is so beautiful, the descriptions so dynamic, dramatic, palpable, real. And that recognition in the end. Oh it just ended me! And going back to the previous update it was the wolf that started it all... hands of faith, or Odin, or whatever higher force intervening to bring them together. A match made in heaven, in the true meaning of the word PS Sorry Astrid and Thor, I will gush about you next time |
