Thanks for the awesome comments girls! Love you all!

The next morning I was up getting sick again. Anna had cooked chicken for dinner last night after having a bottle and a half of red wine so I guessed it was that.

“Get dressed. You’re going to the doctor” she appeared at the door of my bathroom.

“For what? And it’s Sunday so they’re not open.”

“Zara, since I’ve been here you’ve been puking every morning…doesn’t that set some alarm bells off in your head?”

“Haha yeah; that you can’t cook for shit. And you’ve only been here for two days so that doesn’t mean anything…Wait, you actually think I’m…” she stood with her hands on her hips nodding at me. “But I’m on the pill so it’s impossible”

“Did you get sick or anything and you were taking something for that? Or you just forgot one day?”

I thought back.

Fuck.

“Oh my god…me and James both had a stomach thing about a month ago and we got antibiotics for that”

“Gimme your car keys; I’m going to the drugstore. Drink lots of water while I’m gone”

This was a fucking nightmare. How could I be so careless? I went to the kitchen and drank as much water as I could. Would he still want kids? And if he did, would he want to fly to Florida to see his baby? Timing could not have been worse.

Anna got back an hour later. God only knows what took her so long because the drugstore was only three blocks away.

“I got three pregnancy tests and the number of the guy who works there” she smiled, clearly proud of herself.

“You managed to get a guy’s number while buying pregnancy tests…y’know what: never mind”

I took the tests and we sat in the bathroom waiting for the results. She got three different brands but each took fifteen minutes to tell you if you were pregnant.

“Three minutes left. Y’know out of all the people I know, you were the one I never saw being pregnant. Oh my god…I’m going to be a godmother” she said as dramatically as humanly possible.

“Well I mightn’t be pregnant yet so don’t make any plans!” she rolled her eyes as if she knew I was already pregnant.

“That’s it” she checked her watch. “Time to look. Want me to tell you or do you want to look?”

“Tell me”

She went over to the sink where the tests were and looked at them. I held my face in my hands and prepared myself for the news.

“So we have two blue lines, a tick and a smiley face. Congratulations, Zara!”

“Oh god…how am I going to tell James?”

“Does he not want kids?”

“He does but we agreed not until college was over and things had settled down a little bit”

“The sooner the better if you ask me. I mean, James isn’t getting any younger…” I narrowed my eyes at her and she held her hands up. I guess she did have a point.

We went into the garden and played with the dogs.

“I suppose it’s off to the doctor tomorrow then” I said without any emotion.

“You don’t seem so happy about this, Zara”

“I am…I think. It’s just that things are so messed up right now”

“So do you want a boy or a girl?” she asked me.

“A boy obviously so he’ll look like his dad” I smiled.

As if on cue my cell rang. I took the phone in my hand and looked at Anna.

“Are you going to tell him?”

“No I can’t. I don’t want to give him something to worry about”

“Not even about the job thing?” she urged me to tell him.

“No!”

“Well answer it!” she ordered.

“Hey!” I answered before he hung up.

“Hey, babe! You’re a bit more cheerful than you were yesterday so that’s good. Any particular reason?”

“Uh…well Anna’s here actually. Hope you don’t mind”

“No, no. She just turned up?” he was as confused as I was.

“That’s exactly what happened. We gave her a forwarding address…apparently. How’s Mexico?”

“Awesome. Think I had too many burritos last night though, my belly wasn’t the greatest this morning”

That makes two of us, Hetfield.

“What are you and Anna gonna do while she’s there?”

Just take some casual trips to the doctor to see if you’re pregnant…the usual.

“I’m not sure…she’ll probably wanna go shopping and stuff…I got my final exam theme the other day actually. ‘Beginnings’ so I’ll have to get started on that”

“That’ll be kind of tough…did they say anything else?” he asked as if he knew something was going on.

“Nope. She just gave me the paper and I left…” it killed me lying to him like this.

“And how’s Evan?”

“Still not sleeping with me, James”

”Good. I’ll call you tomorrow”

“Alright have a good show”

I sighed and Anna stared at me as if she was ashamed of me.

“Where’s your balls, huh?”

“What are you talking about?” I shook my head.

“You should have told him!”

“Whatever…Don’t you have a guy to go out with or something” I tried to get her off my back. I honestly felt like we were back in New York.

“I do but I’m staying in because I have to take you to the doctor tomorrow”

“Hey don’t let my womb get in the way of your date!”

We drove to the doctor’s office the next afternoon. I told the receptionist why I was there and filled out some paper work and she weighed me and noted my height.

After around a half hour of waiting the doctor called us in. I sat on the bed and looked around at all the posters of happy families on the wall and notices for contraception. It was probably a bit late for that now…

“Hi, I’m Doctor Hill. You must be Zara, right?” a handsome man with green eyes shook my hand.

“So you did some tests at home?”

“Yeah. Three. They were all positive”

“Alright and is the baby planned or unplanned?”

“Planned…and unplanned. We had planned one but not for another year or so. I was taking some meds for a virus thing and I guess it interfered with the pill”

“The father is around I presume?”

“Yeah…but not at the moment. He’s on tour. He’ll be back in a few weeks”

“Do you like music, doc?” Anna blurted. He ignored her advances and I mouthed to her to shut up.

“Uh huh. Okay so let’s do an ultrasound and we’ll confirm it”

I don’t think either of us was fully aware of what he was saying because he looked like George Clooney when he was in ER crossed with Hugh Jackman. I jumped when he started to hitch up my t shirt.

“Sorry, my hands are cold” he smiled.

I looked across at Anna who was drooling all over herself.

He put some jelly on my tummy and turned on the machine. He moved the wand over my lower belly and watched the screen. All I could see were sort of gray fuzzy clouds but then I heard a quick heartbeat.

Oh my god.

“Congrats. You’re definitely pregnant. I’d say about seven weeks. You want a print out of your scan?”

“Yeah. She does” Anna spoke for me. I was too busy crying.

He cleaned off my stomach and I pulled down my top. He gave me a prescription for some vitamins and an appointment date for the hospital along with two photos of my scan.

“So doc, are you just a pregnancy doctor or an everything doctor?” Anna flirted obnoxiously with Dr. Hill as we left the room. What in the fuck was an ‘everything’ doctor? He smiled politely and flashed his wedding ring and I watched as she became bitterly disappointed.

“He’s an asshole” Anna pouted.

“Because he’s married?”

“Yes!” she cried as if she was in pain. We were definitely back in New York.

Thanks guys

It was the night of my exhibition where I had to show off my final project to strangers and art enthusiasts. It was in a gallery downtown near to the one Lars had brought me to last summer. I had to give a short explanation of my new piece that was covered by a silver sheet on a large easel in a hall filled with chairs. I had struggled with the idea for weeks but it finally came together a few days ago. To say I was nervous was an understatement. A huge understatement.

My college lecturers were there, my friends from college were there but there was no sign of James. Anna had left to fly back to New York only days before so she wasn't there either which was probably for the best. There was free wine and single men at the exhibition. James said he was coming straight from the airport with Lars. I really hoped he’d make it because this was a big deal in more ways than one…

I still hadn’t told James I was pregnant or that I could possibly be moving to Florida. A decision I’d have to make in an hour or less.

I delayed and stalled people as much as I could but the organizers forced me to go ahead and begin.

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen” my voice quivered and I shoved my hands in the pockets of my hoodie behind the podium. “Thank you for coming so uh…thanks for viewing my work and—“ The large wooden door of the hall creaked open and James crept in in a beanie hat and sunglasses and stood at the back of the hall. He mouthed a “sorry” to me before I continued. “Anyway without further delay here is my final piece of work. The theme I was given was ‘beginnings’ and I painted what I felt captured that at this moment in time. Thank you”

I yanked the sheet off the canvas and watched people’s heads turn to try and decipher the eerie side view of a zombie creature holding its large belly with a smaller zombie inside. I saw James struggling with it too because it was being shown to him for the first time also. I knew it clicked with him when he took his shades off and left the room.

Oh no.

I waited until my applause was over, thanked the people again then searched for James.
I saw Lars picking at the finger food that was laid out and checking out some woman in a long red dress.

“Hey have you seen James?”

“Nope. I thought he was with you? How did it go?”

“I’ll tell you later”

Eventually I saw him coming out of the men’s bathroom and he sprinted over to me.

“Are you ok?” I asked him.

“Forget about me, are you ok?!”

“I’m fine! How was the tour?”

“Just tell me, Zara”

“Alright…I’m pregnant” I watched a smile creep across his face which calmed me down. Some weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

“Why didn’t you tell me all those times I called you?” his eyes concentrated on my still relatively flat belly the whole time.

“Because I wanted you to finish your tour without worrying about anything. Are you happy?”

“What kind of a question is that?! Of course I am! How far along are you?”

“Eleven weeks”

“You’ve been to a doctor, right? Is it healthy? When are you due?” he babbled.

“Calm down! We’ll talk at home alright?”

“This is so amazing” he whispered and kissed me softly. Seeing the enormous, silly smile on his face put my mind at ease.

“You two can never manage to find a room huh?” Lars interrupted. “What are you so smiley about?” he clearly directed that at James who was smiling like an idiot.

“We’re having a baby” James blurted out.

“Congrats man!” he patted James on the back and kissed me on the cheek. “I’m gonna get out of here. I’ll see you soon”

“Ready to go home too?”

“Yep…actually give me five minutes. I just have to go talk to my lecturer about something. I’ll meet you at the door”

I looked for my lecturer and found her in another room of the gallery.

“Nice work tonight, Zara. I thought you might have spoken for longer though. Anyway, have you made up your mind?”

“Yes I have. I won’t be taking the job”

“Oh well that’s a shame. Here’s your diploma. Good luck, Zara”

I got my scroll and found James waiting outside the room I was in. I prayed he didn’t hear any of our conversation.

“What’s that?” he pointed to my diploma.

“Nothing. Ready?”

A car dropped us off at home and we went straight to bed to watch tv. Both of us were exhausted. Since I had told him I was pregnant, I don’t think he had stopped smiling.

I changed into my pajamas and got under the covers. I reached over to the drawer and pulled out four ultrasound photos I had gotten from scans and showed them to him.

“There’s the head and there’s a leg. Can you see it?” I pointed at the photos.

“Yeah I can…how do you feel?”

“Okay. Tired right now though”

He turned off the tv and I laid down. He reached under the covers and put his hand on my belly as if it were about to break. I loved how gentle he was being.

“I’m scared, James” I confessed.

“Of what?”

“This whole baby thing. I haven’t got a job…and I don’t know how to do the parenting part”

“I don’t think anyone really knows. I think you just...go with it” l laughed. “We have a while to prepare ourselves so don’t worry about that stuff yet”

“I have some other news too. If I tell you, will you promise not to be mad?” I saw worry set in on his face. I sounded like a teenager about to tell their parents that they had smoked pot or something.

“You’re not going to tell me that it mightn’t be mine, right?” My heart nearly broke when he said that to me.

“No” I took his hand. “It’s definitely yours so don’t worry about that. When you were away, I had a meeting with my course leader and she said that I was way ahead with my work” he nodded.

“And that I’ve passed the whole course already”

“Well that’s good right? So you’ve finished college?”

“Yeah but…I nearly moved to Florida”

“What? I don’t follow”

“When I was talking to my lecturer she was like ‘oh I have this amazing job for you but it’s in Florida and the money is great blah blah blah’…but the day after I found out I was pregnant”

“Would you have gone if you weren’t pregnant?”

“I can’t say I didn’t think about it because I did. But then Anna made me realize I’d be miserable if I went because you wouldn’t be there”

He sat upright, rubbed his forehead and sighed.

“What’s wrong?”

“I feel like I’m holding you back from doing stuff and I’ve felt like that since we started going out. You’re young and should be out doing stuff but you’re stuck here with an old man being tied down because I got you pregnant”

“James, I’m here because I love you. You’re not holding me back; I wouldn’t be here if you were. I’d choose to stay in with you and eat pizza over going on a night out or whatever a million times over…If it takes me a while to make money from my art then so be it. I have no problem with working in a restaurant or something if it means I can stay with you. Okay?” I reached over and hugged his bare torso. “Don’t call yourself old either, 42 isn’t old…43 is old”

“Fuck off!” he laughed.

“Sshh don’t talk like that around your kid!” I held my belly.

“I had a surprise for you but now you’re not gonna get it”

“If the surprise is you have an erection I don’t want it anyway”

“It’s not! Can you have sex while you’re pregnant by the way?”

“I can but not tonight because I’m wrecked”

“Thank god. I nearly married my hand while we were on tour”

“Too much info, dude”

“That’s not what you said while you watched me do it in Aspen”

“Aaaaaaanyway. What’s my surprise?”

“You don’t want it”

“Stop being a dick!”

”Alright. The band that supported us on the tour have a new album out soon and they want you to do the artwork for it”

“Are you kidding?!”

“Nope. I showed them some of your stuff and they like it. I have their manager’s number in my phone so I’ll give it to you tomorrow. You won’t have to work in McDonald’s anymore…well not yet anyway” he smiled.

“Holy shit. Thank you! And thanks for taking all this news so well too. I was freaking out about telling you”

“We’ve overcome a lot worse stuff than you nearly moving to Florida. The fact is you didn’t and now we can concentrate on whatever’s in there” he poked my belly playfully.

Things could only get better from here on out…

We drove to Home Depot to get supplies to start decorating the nursery. We stood in the aisle where the paint was. We had agreed to not find out the sex of the baby so we couldn’t pick the traditional blue or pink.

“What about yellow? It’s kinda neutral” he suggested flicking through the color chart.

“Or white?”

“Too bright”

“Hmmm…cream then. It’s like white and yellow” he looked at the color chart again with around thirty different shades of cream. “That one” I pointed to one of the squares.

“’Warm cream’? That’s a bad idea…you’ll probably try to eat it” he looked at me to gauge my reaction.

“And why would I do that?”

“Because since you’ve been pregnant you’ve been emptying the fridge quicker and quicker every week! Even faster than I can fill it”

“I’m eating for two now. It’s normal”

“It’s called gluttony” he muttered.

“Shut up old man and get the damn paint from the shelf!” I elbowed his ribs and an old couple shot us some dirty looks. My hormones weren’t exactly in check.

When we got home James put on some old clothes and started painting the walls in the nursery from a light blue to the cream color we got. It used to be the room where he kept his awards, Metallica merchandise and records but he had moved most of that stuff to HQ now.

I sat cross legged in one of the corners and made a list of the stuff we still needed to get like a crib, car seat, diaper changing table.

“You need a hand?”

“No I’m good. You thought of any names yet?” he asked me sitting on the ladder.

“I was thinking that if it’s a girl you could name her and if it’s a boy I could name him”

“That could work…but on one condition”

“What?”

“That you don’t call him Nikki, Tommy, Vince or Mick”

“Yeah, like I’d actually do that…I thought maybe Jon for a boy”

“It’s okay I guess”

“Yeah, you know like Jon Bon Jovi”

“Oh haha you’re so funny…I was also thinking about getting married” he said rather suddenly.

“I thought we were getting married?”

“We are. But I was thinking about a date, we haven't really discussed it” he stopped painting and looked at me.

“When were you thinking of?”

“Soon”

“While I’m pregnant?”

“Yeah…loads of people do it nowadays. You wanna wait?”

“Well planning a wedding is a huge deal and the doctor says stress isn’t good for the baby so that’s something to consider”

“I mean, we don’t have to have a massive wedding just a low-key thing you know”

“What’s the rush though? People can be engaged for years before they get married”

“It was just a suggestion. If you wanna wait, we’ll wait. I’d like to make it official soon though”

“We have the rest of our lives to get married. I don’t plan on going anywhere soon anyway”

“Glad to hear it” he smiled.

He finished painting the first wall and his cell rang on the ground and I answered since his hands were covered in paint.

“Hey, Lars”

“Uh hey, Zara. Does he have you answering his calls now?”

“No. His hands are just covered in sticky white stuff”

“Okay I don’t wanna know! You guys are sick! Get him to call me back”

“No wait here he is!”

“Hey man” he took the phone and walked out of the room to talk.

He left and I heard him shouting down the hall on the phone. An angry James was the last thing I wanted at five months pregnant. I managed to get up off the floor and went to look for him. I hated when he was quiet. I saw him sitting on our bed with his head in his hands.

“What’s wrong?” I rubbed his back.

“I have to go to New York for some shows”

“When?”

“Tomorrow”

“Wow…for how long?”

“A week or so”

“That’s not so bad. We don’t have any appointments coming up and it’s only a week”

“I know but I’m always the last to know about these things. I just want to stay home and relax” he sighed. “Come with me?”

“Are you sure?”

“Of course. You can hang with Anna and stuff”

“Okay sure. Sounds like fun” I smiled.

“Alright I’m gonna shower. Start packing” he pecked me and walked off.

-----------

We touched down in New York the following day around 6pm. They had a show the next day. The plan was that I’d stay in Anna’s for a few days and the guys would get a hotel. James insisted we needed ‘woman time’ as he put it. A car dropped James, Lars and I off in my old neighborhood where Anna still lived. Kirk and Rob were flying out later apparently. I decided to play her game and just arrive on her doorstep. I knocked a few times before she answered.

“Zara! James! And I don’t know who you are” Lars didn’t look too happy when she didn’t recognize him. She didn’t seem to mind opening the door wrapped in just her bed sheet. My guess was she was either hungover or had a guy upstairs. “Come in! I’ll just go get changed”

The three of us sat in her living room where the coffee table was covered in empty beer bottles and peanuts.

“Her friend’s hot” I heard Lars whisper to James.

“So what are you guys doing here?” she smiled, mainly looking at James.

“We have a few shows to do” James answered her.

“Oh cool. Where?”

It dawned on me then that they never told me where the show was.

“Uh…that place. You know it…” Lars tried to remember.

“The garden!”

“Radio City!” Lars and James blurted out different places at the same time and both exchanged a look of horror.

“Yeah, Radio City” James corrected himself. “I always mix those two up”

“Is it okay if I stay here for a few days?” I asked her unlike her.

“Yeah of course. Your belly’s getting big now! You guys excited about the baby?”

“Yeah!” James and I both said at the same time.

“Me too I can’t wait to be a godmother” I saw a worried look wash over James’ face. Anna was my best friend but she was far from the world’s greatest role model.

“Anyway we’re going to get a hotel. I’m sure you two have girl stuff or whatever to talk about…oh Anna can I talk to you for a sec?” James announced then went out into the hallway with Anna.

I looked at Lars for clues as to what they might be talking about but he looked as clueless as I was. Both of them came back in laughing.

“I’ll see you tomorrow okay?” James hugged me.

“I thought you had a show?”

“We do…but you’ll be there right?”

“Yeah sure”

“Cool. A car will pick you up at 2pm”

“That early for a show? Okay then sure” I hugged him one last time and left with Lars and hopped back into the car the dropped us off.

“What did James want?” I asked her.

“Just said that I shouldn’t be partying and stuff around you” she answered me without looking me in the eye.

“Oh…I don’t wanna be rude but is it okay if I go to bed now? I know it’s still early but y’know jetlag and stuff”

“Yeah. You know where your room is right?”

I climbed the stairs and went into the old bedroom where I’d stay after collecting a drunken Anna from a bar to make sure she didn’t choke on her vomit. I opened the door and saw two black bags covering dresses on the bed one white and one purple, some flowers beside them and a pair of white shoes next to the chair.

“ANNA!!” I roared downstairs for her.

She came running up shortly after.

“Please tell me someone you know is getting married and they’ve left their stuff here” I closed my eyes and waited for her answer.

“Yeah that’s why they’re here”

“Oh thank god because for a second I thought—“

“But that person I know is you” my jaw literally hit the floor. “You and James are getting married tomorrow”

“We're what?!”

”Don’t freak out, Zara. Sit down and I’ll explain alright?”

I sat on the bed and tried to process what was happening. Apparently I was getting married tomorrow.

“Listen. James called me a few weeks ago and he told me that both of you hadn’t really discussed marriage but he wants to get married…soon. He said he wanted to do things properly and get married in New York because I think you’re supposed to get married where the girl’s from or something…anyway. He called me and told me to get you a dress and one for me too…they don’t really have any shows here, Zara.”

Now it made sense. That’s why Kirk and Rob weren’t with us and why they didn’t know where they were playing their imaginary show.

“He loves you so much…and he’s so excited about this baby. I’ve never heard any guy, and I know a lot of guys, talk about their girlfriend like he talks about you”

“But you knew and you didn’t tell me”

“He told me not to; he wanted it to be surprise”

A surprise? Aspen was a surprise but this? This was on a whole other level. I was happy but there was also some anger too. We talked only yesterday about how we would wait.

“Gimme the phone; I need to talk to him”

“No. You can’t talk to him until tomorrow…you are going to marry him, right?” she said worried.

I really didn’t have a choice. Of course I’d marry him.

“Let me see the dress” I wiped my tears and Anna took the cover off the dress.

“James emailed me pictures of your bump a few days ago so I took them to the dress shop and the old lady there said this would fit you”

She showed me a low cut, sleeveless, ivory colored dress. It was beautiful. It amazed me how he organized all this and I still had no idea about it.

“It’s pretty” I whispered.

“Try it on”

I went to the bathroom and tried on the dress. It fit perfectly. I walked out and Anna zipped the dress up at the back. I turned and looked in the full length mirror and burst into tears.

“Hey what’s wrong?”

“I wish my dad was here” I sobbed. So many people weren’t going to be there. “Who’s going to walk me up the aisle?”

“I think Lars is” she laughed. Not so bad I guess. “Actually I think it’s better that your dad isn’t here. Let’s face it, he would have kicked James’ ass”

“That’s true!”

“You better get some sleep. I’ll wake you in the morning”

I got around two hours sleep. Nerves and over thinking things kept me awake. I was getting married. Holy. Shit.

Anna barged into my room around 10am.

“C’mon! Get up and into the shower! We have so much stuff to do today!” I didn’t stir in the bed.

“Zara! Get the fuck up!” she kicked my leg.

I dragged myself out of bed and showered. I was strangely calm about the whole thing. The way Anna was running around the house I could’ve sworn she was the one getting married.

I got into a bathrobe and sat on a chair in the bedroom and Anna came in with a massive case of make-up.

“Ok so what do want done with your hair?”

“Um…straight?”

“It’s always straight! You need a change for your wedding day. How about beach curls?”

“What are beach curls?” I really didn't have a clue when it came to beauty stuff.

“Like really loose curls”

“Yeah okay”

She started working on my hair. She was in her element doing this.

“Oh do you know where I’m getting married by the way?”

“In that little church across town”

“Which one? There’s loads!”

“The little white one”

“St. Michael’s?”

“That’s the one”

“Oh shit…vows!” I shouted.

“You haven’t written any?”

“How could I have written any?! I only found out I was getting married yesterday!”

“Wow…I wrote mine when I was like fifteen” she tilted her head to the side and seemed to fantasize about her imaginary wedding.

“But you don’t know the guy you’re marrying yet so how did you write them?”

“All guys are the same, Zara”

I didn’t think so. Only James could have pulled a stunt like this.

“Seriously though, just say why you love him, that you’ll be together forever; all that crap”

She was in the middle of finishing off my hair when her cell phone rang.

“It’s your husband to be!” she swooned waving the phone in my face.

“Let me talk to him!” I reached for the phone but she swatted my hand away.

“Hey James! Things are fine…she’s still marrying you don’t worry…are you ready?...oh that sucks…anyway I better go”

“What sucks?!” I panicked a little.

“Nothing he just had a little accident, nothing to worry about though”

An accident?!

“Alright close your eyes. Time for make-up”

“Just a little”

“I know, Zara” she huffed.

Two hours later I was sitting in the bedroom waiting on Anna to finish getting herself ready in my bathrobe with my hair and light make up done. I hadn’t really thought about marriage until now that I was being forced to. Would a lot change? Would anything change at all? Would we still sit up late watching movies and eating ice cream and other junk til 3am and fall asleep on the couch? Or would we turn into those married couples from tv who go to bed at 10pm and fall into a boring routine? I was afraid that a piece of paper would take the spontaneity away from our relationship.

I also wondered if James was thinking the same things as me. But I couldn’t picture him being nervous over anything. Even when I told him I was pregnant he was excited. Nothing seemed to phase him. I imagined him in his suit and that put a smile on my face. Nothing was better than James in a suit.

“Okay. How do I look?” Anna interrupted my thoughts.

“Amazing!” she looked awesome in her deep purple floor length dress with her hair tied back into a creative bun.

“Go put your dress on”

I changed into my dress but my shoes wouldn’t fit.

“Anna! The damn shoes don’t fit!”

“But I got you a size six. That’s your size, right?”

“Yeah but my feet are like swollen or something…I’ll have to wear my Converse”

“NO! You’re not wearing sneakers to your wedding! I won’t allow it!”

“Do you have a better idea then? Because your two sizes smaller than me so I can’t wear yours!”

“Dammit! Fine but if James says anything about it, it was your idea!”

“He won’t see; the dress will cover them” I actually had no problem about wearing sneakers, even it was to my wedding.

A knock at the door from the driver signaled that it was time to go. A text from James came through on my phone that simply said: “I’m waiting. X

Anna held my dress and helped me get into the car. We sat in heavy traffic and I was due to be in the church in five minutes.

“Oh my god. This is actually happening. I’m getting married. Marriage is forever” I blabbed getting short of breath. My baby was kicking like crazy too.

“Calm down okay! And whatever you do, do not cry because your mascara is not waterproof! It’s not like you can’t get a divorce anyway…”

Typical Anna.

I started to rehearse what I was going to say to him in my head but then we pulled up outside the church.

“We’re here!” Anna chimed while my hands started to shake.

I looked out the window and saw Lars standing outside finishing a cigarette. Anna opened the door for me.

“Wow, Zara. You look beautiful! He thought you weren’t coming” Lars told me.

“Why?”

“You’re twenty minutes late”

"Is James inside?" he nodded in answer.

“Ready?” Anna and Lars asked me at the same time.
