I decided to create this thread to maybe show our opinions about the matter, also to recommend some musicians that maybe we don't know a lot about them [sharing] or talk aboutwhy "x" member of "y" band is overlooked or if it is just a personal appretation c:

~~~
One of the musicians who I personally think went overlooked is Jan Akkerman. Overlooked in a popular sense, I mean.(Because in 1973, he was choosen as the "Best Guitarrist in the World" by the magazine Melody Maker)
I know his work in Focus wich is pretty good.His solo stuff I'm not familiar with.For that time he did a amazing job.
An other guitarplayer from the same timeperiod and country I woud like to bring in is George Kooymans of Golden Earring.He is a great vocalist too.A bit underrated because the whole band has outstanding musicians.
George Kooymans? I'll search songs to listen, who knows and I end up listening them as well!
It may be strange, but sometimes guitarrists go overlooked when they are in bands with great drummers, bassist, keyboardists...
An example is Alex Lifeson [rush], everyone are too focused on Neil Peart or Geddy Lee [I include myself xD]
You got a good point about overlooking due other musicians in a band,it happens alot with bass players aswell.''O, he is just the bass player'' but without a good,solid one the band is nothing!
That's completely true! Either they're the ones idolized or often overlooked. It's a pity.
There's one who we don't hear nearly often enough: Emppu Vuorinen, the guitarist of Nightwish. It's like he's in the decor for most people, with Tuomas and Anette the only important ones, even Marco is more known for his voice than for his amazing bass skills...
The guitarist of Nightwish is indeed underrated! Like said,the attention goes out to the two famous faces and the rest of the band is background material.
In my opinion is Richie Sambora not underrated.He is wellknown as THE guitarplayer of Bon Jovi and his solo work is pretty famous aswell.He is a great guitarplayer,although not really one of my favorites.That has to do with taste. :tu:
Two (for me) underrated bass players are Matt Camacho,ex-Forbidden and Harold Gielen of Legion Of The Damned.What these two do when they play live is just amazing.Heavy,solid playing that just kills! :horns:
