How did I not find this fic sooner?! Absolutely love it! It's very emotional and rawm which is perfect because Jason is definitely like that. I'm enjoying the way you portray Jason. It's almost like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde; the boyfriend and the rockstar. Jason has a great personality, but the bad boy side is kind of hawt!! :biggrin

Can't wait for more!

Thank you all for waiting so patiently for an update. Your reward is Jason getting naked and wet. Enjoy.

CHAPTER 7

It was going to be about 45 minutes until the pizzas arrived. Jason felt jet lagged and sweaty. He didn't want to impose but he was in desperate need of a shower.
"Do you mind if I take a shower?" Jason asked nervously.
"Of course not, 2nd door on the left down the hall."

Jason got up and made his way to the bathroom noting the happy smiley family photos on the walls. Suddenly, he felt like he was intruding. Clearly Amy was in a totally different place to where he was and he felt like a jerk for appearing in her doorway and making it all about him without even a thought about what might be going on with her.

For a brief moment he considered why Kirk had kept all this from him, why had he never mentioned it, but he knew it wasn't his place to say, he knew that Kirk would have said nothing out of respect for Amy. Kirk wasn't a gossip.

He got to the bathroom and closed the door. Just like she had when he had known her, Amy still framed her mirror with photos. She'd always collected photos, she had told him they were captured moments too important to throw away. These were family photos, baby photos, a photo of Amy and her husband, holiday snaps, Jason smiled noting a photo of Kirk playing with Amy's boys, and a few old photos of Amy, a glimpse of the girl he'd once known.

He pulled his shirt over his head, his arms felt heavy and he suddenly realised just how tired he really was. He ruffled his hair and then looked himself over in the mirror. He looked tired and he looked older than he realized, it had been a long time since he had really looked at himself.

He slipped out of his jeans and boxers before slipping into the shower and turning on the water. It felt cool against his hot, dirty skin. He let it wash over him like a cleansing wave. He let his mind wonder, backtracking over the events of the previois days until he found himself thinking of her.

He rubbed soap onto his skin, hoping to rid himself of the days of drinking, smoking and travelling that had landed him in that place. What must she think of him, a filthy, lonely, shell of a man.

And there she was, a goddess. The way her nose wrinkled when she laughed, the way she twisted her hair with her index finger while she was deep in thought, her laugh, her smile; there was a warmth about her that hadn't changed even after the passing of so many years.

It was as though Jason was looking down through time to the girl he knew and seeing that it was all the same. It was alright. She's here.

What he wouldn't give to hold her, to kiss her, to have her, just as everything else in his world was falling away. Because maybe, just maybe everything could be okay.

He leant against the wall, warm water casacding down his back and pooling at his feet before slipping away.

Were her lips still as soft? Her kisses still as tender? Was her embrace still as warm? Would she still fit so perfectly in his arms? Was she still as gentle?

It wasn't sex that he thought of when he thought of Amy, afterall he could have that any time he wanted. No, when he thought of Amy he thought of comfort, companionship, he thought of laughing until they cried, holding each other until morning, finishing each others sentances - he thought of her and he felt love. She made him a sappy, lovesick, romantic in a way that no one else ever had. He loved her, always had and always would.

Snap out of it Newsted, you blew it, she would never feel that way about you.

He turned and flicked the hot top off, drenching himself in ice cold water in hopes to quell his desires. He had to leave. He had said what he wanted to and now it was time to go. He could not burden her with his presence any longer.

He turned off the water and stepped out of the shower, grabbing a towel off the rack and lazily drying himself with it. It was in this moment that he realized he had no clean clothes.

No problem, he figured picking up his old clothes from the floor. But they stunk to high heaven. Frantic, he wrapped the towel around his waist trying to figure out what to do.

There was a knock on the door.
"Pizza's here," she said.
"Ummmm okay," Jason stammered nervously.
"Everything okay?" Amy questioned.
"Yeah, no, I..." he had no idea how to answer that.
"You have no clean clothes?" Amy asked through the door.
"No," Jason replied embarassed.

Suddenly the door opened a crack and Jason clutched the towel tight around his waist. A hand popped in holding a tshirt and shorts.
"These should fit, you're about the same size."
The door snapped shut again.

They were just a blank set of clothes and Jason knew instantly who they must have belonged to. He felt overwhelmed with guilt. He slipped into them and sure enough they fit. He neatly hung the towel back on the rail and made his way back out to the living room.

"Like a glove," Amy said with a smile.
"Huh?"
"The clothes, they fit like a glove. You always called me a hoarder but aren't you glad I hung onto those?" She joked. He smiled nervously and sat down across from her. She slid a pizza box in his direction.
"Can I ring a cab or something?" He asked. Amy looked confused.
"Why?"
"I just need to go."
"Where?" She asked again.
"Please, I just need to go."
Amy moved closer to him and gently placed her hand on his.
"Stay with me, okay?"

I quite like where this is going ;)

CHAPTER 8

Jason was taken aback by her words. Stay? With her? What did she mean? So many thought raced through his head before he noticed the warmth of her hand against his own. His eyes were wide, like a deer in the headlights, as he frantically tried to find the meaning in the words enough to respond.
"I-" he began to speak but there was nothing. He heaved a heavy sigh, looked down at her hand and then back up at her.
"Stay with me," she said softly again.
"I want to but-" Jason couldn't finish his own sentence. He felt conflicted.
"But what?" she asked gently.
"I, I, I don't know," he really didn't. He wanted to stay, he wanted to absolutely spill his guts and tell her that coming back to her had changed everything for him. He wanted to tell her that he still loved her. He wanted to tell her that he needed her in his life. But he didn't want to be "that guy." The guy who complicated everything for her. Truth was he wanted her to be happy, she deserved happiness, and he didn't know if that would ever be with him. And there were other complicating factors. She was a grieving widow and a mother of two small children. That wasn't to say that Jason didn't like kids, not at all, he just didn't know if he was the dad type. He'd been that crazy metalhead guy for so long dedicating his life to his music and his bands that... there had been no time for children. And besides, he was getting ahead of himself. Who is to say she'd want him as part of their life at all. She'd practically pushed them out the door the minute he'd arrived. Was she ashamed of her past?

He looked up at her, his head felt heavy, his brain felt foggy.
"Just stay, it doesn't have to be a big thing, just hang out here, it has been SO long since there's been another adult here! At least not one who feels the need to baby me about everything," Amy said softly, convincingly. Jason felt torn. But convinced. He'd stay, at least a little while longer. He smiled and she smiled back moving back to her side of the couch.
"Eat the pizza, it'll go cold," she instructed and he did as he was told.

Pizza, beer, more pizza, more beer. They laughed and joked about the old times and Jason swallowed his feelings and tried to make the best of it. If nothing else just being there, a world away from the whole Metallica thing, was so good for him. He felt lighter, he felt freer, he felt content. And at the same time he felt awkward, and nervous. He felt a lump in his throat whenever he spoke. It was like being on a rollercoaster all the while not being able to express his inner anguish outwardly for fear of what she just might think of him. That was what worried him the most of all. What on earth she must think of him.

The pizza was gone, the beers were running low, it was getting late. Amy pushed the coffee table out of the way and switched on the TV. She patted the spot next to her on the couch and Jason moved to sit next to her. She leaned into him and his stomach turned to butterflies. She rested her head against his chest. Neither of them drunk but certainly both more than a little tipsy. He looked down to see her twisting her hair with her index finger, he loved it when she did that. He took a deep breath trying to steady himself. He hated it when she did that at a time like that. But she was oblivious, surely.

"Are you okay?" she asked without looking up.
"Uh yeah fine," he mumbled. He felt shy all of a sudden.
"I'm not making you feel uncomfortable?" she asked.
"Oh no, not at all," he lied, so grateful that she wasn't looking him in the eye. She could always see straight through his lies.

She flicked through the channels, up and down, nothing good on, until she hit MTV. Some music video was playing, may as well watch it because nothing else was worth the time. They sat there, she rested her head against his chest, while he tried to figure out where to put his hands in a way that wouldn't be completely inappropriate.

The music video ended and a MTV news flash came across the screen.
"After 15 years, Metallica's bassist Jason Newsted has quit," it began, "no official statement has been made by either parties."

Suddenly it was awkward again, neither of them knowing quite what to say. Metallica was the big pink elephant in the room.

"Maybe I should make a statement or something," Jason said after a while of sitting in silence. Amy got up and looked him in the eyes.
"Maybe, if you feel you should," she said with a sweet smile. She was killing him with that smile.
"Tomorrow, I will tomorrow, but I have no idea what to say," he said honestly.
"The truth, just say the truth."
"That James and Lars are impossible to work with and that as long as I'm in that band I'll feel like the stand in guy?"
"Creative differences," she suggested.
"You always were far more diplomatic then I," he said with a smile. She smiled back and put her head back on his chest.

His heart was racing, pounding, he could hear the blood rushing passed his ears and he was hoping, praying that she didn't notice. He had to stay calm, stay cool. He had to not let on that he was anything but cool, calm and collected. And she had no idea the effect that she had on him, as she curled her legs up under herself with her head on his chest casually playing with her hair. He was her comfort, it had been so long since she had felt so relaxed and at peace. Jason however, was a mess.
