This lil' fic of mine has been here once before , in august, but I deleted my forum for no reason lol. So here it is again... I have over 50 pages of this and the fic is still not done... Just for the record here: English is not my mother tongue (I'm Swedish). Enjoy !!! _______________________ Chapter I Stripes of sunlight shone through the cracks in the blinds and I opened my eyes. I turned my head around and looked at my watch. 8:30 AM already?! Shoot! I climbed out of the bed, stripped off my clothes and ran quickly into the shower. Today was my first day as a roadie for Megadeth on the Clash of the Titans Tour and I had never even met the guys before but the man that hired me, my uncle Bobby whom had been in the music industry for years, told me that they were really cool guys and pleasant people to work with. After a quick shower I wrapped my hair in a towel and walked towards the wardrobe to pick out an outfit for the day. I pulled out a pair of black jeans that I had cut into shorts and the Clash of the Titans t-shirt Bobby had given me order to wear. Looks decent, I thought when I checked myself in the mirror. I brushed my long brown hair quickly until it was dry. I thought for a while of putting some make up on too, but I figured that I will be working hard in the heat all day so make up wasn't really that suitable. I took my stuff, closed the door and began walking towards the elevators. "Hey!" I heard someone shout behind me. I turned my head around in astonishment. A guy with shoulder long golden brown hair was walking towards me. I had no idea who that was but I figured it might be someone in the crew or perhaps in the band. The longhaired man approached me. "Hey! You are one of our new crew members, right?" the man said to me. "Ah, yeah I am. My name is Penelope Silverman, it's my first day here. And you are?" I said slightly embarrassed of not knowing who he was. "Nice to meet you, Penelope! I'm David Ellefson, the bassist of Megadeth, but you can call be Junior if you want!" "Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't recognize you. I've actually never seen Megadeth before" I said and smiled nervously. "Oh, it's ok! No worries" he said and we stepped into the elevator. "So, Penelope... I heard you were going to be Marty's new guitar tech..." "Yeah I was told I was going to be someone's tech... I'm really excited. But... who's Marty?" I said and chuckled nervously. "Oh, it's our lead guitarist. He looks quite Jewish, with big curly black hair. You'll know it's him when you see him" "Can you please let me know it's him when we meet him? So I won't look like a complete moron for not even knowing who the man I work for looks like..." I said blushing and looked at Junior. "Yeah, sure I promise I'll let you know when we see Marty" he said and smiled at me. *Bing* the elevator stopped by the lobby and we stepped out. Almost the entire crew was waiting in the lobby and was prepared to leave. "Hey, come with me. I'll let you meet the other guys in the band" Junior said and took my hand. He led me to the sofa where two other longhaired men sat. One of them was a ginger and the other one a dark brunette. The dark-haired one seemed to fit in perfectly with the description of Marty Junior had told me but I wasn't sure. "Hey Junior! Who's this beautiful woman you're bringing?" the ginger said and stood up. "Hi, I'm Penelope. I work in the crew. This is my first day here and I just happened to run into Junior by the elevators" I said with a nervous smile. "I'm Dave. Really nice to meet you I-" "...And I'm Marty!..." the dark-haired interrupted Dave. I chuckled nervously. Hell, why was I so nervous? They were just like any other guys. "...I heard you were going to be my guitar tech" Marty said and shook my hand. "Yeah..." I said looking into his brown eyes, still shaking his hand. "Hey are you two going to shake hands forever or are we gonna keep moving? The buses are about to leave" Dave said and yanked me out of the spell. I started blushing. "Yeah, you better go out to the bus and I gotta head back to the rest of the crew" I said still looking at Marty. Noticing that I wasn't the only one who was blushing in that moment. He blushed too. Maybe he also felt what I felt during our handshake? Oh stop it, Penelope he probably already have a girlfriend. Stop wasting your time. We parted. I walked over to the rest of the crew and tapped my new boss Steve on the shoulder. "Oh, hey! Penelope was your name? About time you showed up!" he said. "Yes, I was just saying hello to the guys in the band that's why I'm a little late" I excused myself gracefully. "Ok, umm, what about you help the guys getting comfortable in their bus and then we meet at the venue at our next stop in San Francisco and there you can begin help Friedman with his guitars" he said to me. I nodded and began to look after the bus that Megadeth was sitting in. After asking a few more of the crew members I finally found their bus. "Hi!" I said when I boarded the bus "Steve told me to travel with you" I said just to insure them that I wasn't stalking them or something. "Grab a seat! Make yourself at home!" Junior said to me and I took a seat in the couch next to Marty. Marty looked at me and started blushing "Sorry for shaking your hand too long in the lobby before..." he said with a quiet voice. I blushed "No worries. I kinda liked it..." I said with the last part barely audible. "I beg your pardon?" "I... kinda... liked it..." I said turning my head down. My face went red as a tomato. "Strange thing... me too" Marty said and lifted my face up with his finger causing me to look, once again, into his deep brown eyes. "Hey, Marty, are you flirtin' the roadie?" someone shouted from the back of the bus. "Who's that?" I asked, still looking at Marty. "Oh, that's just Nick... our drummer. He really can be an ass sometimes" he said with a chuckle. I smiled at him and picked up a guitar case that was standing next to him with a tag that said "broken". "What's inside this?" I asked pointing at the case. "Oh, that's just a guitar that I accidently dropped in the floor recently. It's broken. I think I'm gonna pay someone to repair it soon" he said and took the broken guitar out of the case to show me. "You know, Marty... If you want, I can fix that guitar for you for free" I said offering my help. "Really? You know how to fix guitars?" he said and raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, give it to me" I said and he handed me the guitar. "Look, it's very simple. You see, the tuning screw is cracked so you can't get it in tune, that's the problem, right? Look, I only need to pull the screw away and replace it with a similar one. Usually you pay someone to do this but it's much easier than you think to fix. Do you have any box with different guitar tools? Many guitarists have that. I do too, but not here in this bus". "Oh, no I don't have it with me here either. But if you want you can borrow the guitar and fix it when we get to the hotel?". "Ok, Marty, I'll fix it then. Trust me". "I trust you" he said and smiled while looking me in the eyes. It was really something that was happening with us. I surely felt it and it seems like he did too... Oh, stop it Penelope he doesn't like you in that way! Don't be such a fool. After a couple of hours more the bus finally stopped at the venue. "Ah, finally here!" Dave exclaimed and jumped out of the bus. I followed them into the venue where they were about to do a sound check. I suddenly really started to enjoy my job. Not only because my greatest passion was guitars. I was also going to be around Marty a lot and that, I really looked forward to. I stepped into the venue and walked towards the stage. A couple of other roadies that was carrying some equipment walked passed me. A young dude with long brown hair passed me by carrying a really heavy looking amp all by himself. "Do you want some help?" I asked and began helping him carry the amp to the stage. "Yeah, thank you..." he replied and smiled at me. "I'm Josh. And you are?". "I'm Penelope. I'm a guitar technician here" I said and smiled back at him. "Oh, yeah I've seen you're gonna be working with Friedman. Look, I saw your look at him earlier and I know how girls look at guys they're interested in. Don't make the effort, Penelope. Marty will just screw you over like every other famous rock star" Damn it, Penelope! Caught! I knew I shouldn't have looked at Marty in that way, damn it! Now what to say? Come on, Penelope; think fast before he realizes you really did look at Marty in that way. "Uhm... I wasn't giving him any special looks?..." I said nervously and putted the amp down on the stage. "Oh, yeah right..." Josh said and raised his eyebrows. "Don't come to me and cry when he fucks you and then just leave you" he whispered to me right before someone tapped me on the shoulder. "Yes?" I said and turned around. It was Marty. Fuck! Act normal, Penelope. "Hey, Penelope, can you help me get the right sound for my guitar? The mixing table is over there" He said to me and pointed over at the technicians' corner. I walked over to the mixing table and switched some buttons. "Good now?" I shouted loud enough for him to hear. Marty played some chords and gave me thumbs up. I smiled and turned to help some roadies with lifting amps and connecting wires. About a half hour before the first band on the set, Suicidal Tendencies, was heading up to rock the stage the crew leader Steve shouted "Ok, that's a wrap everybody!". "Hey, Penelope!" I heard Steve's voice behind me. "Yes?" "Can you please escort the guys to their dressing room and check so they'll have everything as they want. Make sure there's beer in the cooler there, by the way!" "Ok" I replied briefly and turned to catch the guys in the band and lead them to their dressing room. I led them through the hallway and opened the seventh door on the left. "Ok, here's your dressing room. You'll be going on stage in 9.15 so get ready" I said and was just about to leave the room to get the guys some privacy. "Hey!" I heard Marty's voice behind me "You're coming to watch the show later? You can watch us from the side of the stage if you want" Marty said and smiled at me. "Ok, I'll be there" I replied and immediately began to feel some butterflies in my stomach. Geez, Penelope, you aren't supposed to feel like this. Remember what Josh said about rock stars? |
