Hej hej! Trumpet has to be one of THE BEST instruments ever! I've played trumpet since I was 10, and I'm turning 17 soon, so nearly 7 years! I'll play anything that appeals to me; videogame music, film music, classical etc. Why Trumpet? When I moved to Australia, the school band I was going to join could not accommodate a French Horn (an instrument I learnt in England), so I chose Trumpet instead. Do I regret my descision? No! So, a couple of question's; Are you in any bands (school, orchestra, etc)? What's the favorite pieces you play? Why have you found most difficult about Trumpet playing? |

Hey back! ![]() At the moment Im on an exchange, an my school here has no orchestra. So I can't, but when I get back home I'll join a big band! There are also two orchestras in my school at home (one for beginners and a 'real' one), but I HATE the teacher who does the serious and Im to good for the other one... I'm playing what I like, just like you. My favoutrite piece at the moment is the soundtrack of Forrest Gump - its just so slow and beautiful And yours? Most difficult are the high notes - and Im still mixing up some notes, because Im a Lefty and always struggling to make the right girps... *bugged* And it sucks that Ive to wait till I bother none when I want to practice -.-' Ever tried to play Metallica songs on it? What kind of trumpet you have? |

Привет! Band-wise, I'm in a Jazz ban and and a Symphonic Band (not an Orchestra, we're lacking all the good intruments like violins and things like that) but both are ridiculously easy, however, I am in an Orchestra outside of school where we do paid gigs and stuff (like the one coming up in November ).Favorite piece I play? Probably the William Tell Overture (arranged entirely as a trumpet solo). But it wasn't my first piece I learnt, which was the James Bond Theme (your first piece you learnt to play?). Wait, you're a left-handed trumpet player? Do you still have to use an average trumpet? Trust me, I know the feeling of not wanting to annoy anyone while practicing! I learnt to put an old pillowcase in the bell to muffle the sound (or use a mute). To be honest, I've never tried to play Metallica on a trumpet, but seeing as you're the one with a book, what are they like? Oh god, what trumpet do I use? It's german, I know that much, I'll get back to you. |

Salut! You're doing paid gigs? *amazed* - You have to be much better than me!I'm not sure which my first piece was... I think Ode to Joy - everyone should know it I played it on the marriage of my godmum (who is also my cousin lol - everyone is confused about it )Yap... still have a normal one - and it sucks a bit. The most ppl (mostly RIGHT-handed!) just say that I shouldn't complain about it, cause other Leftys already learned to play Trumpet without any problems, but I'M STILL STRUGGLING - and I get upset when I hear such people Their opinion is quite selfish, isn't it?I mean - most things of the World are made for right-handed ppl (eg. shaking RIGHT hands - I always gav'em my left and some dump djfhewrfü complained bout it - I was 5!!!) - its not fair but I can't change it.... *going to write a LONG post in "Piss & moan thread"* Bout Metallica: Its quite high and fast (for me) - but Ill try to manage playin at least one till I get back to Germany... Its gonna be hard work...*sight* And im gettin homesick again (you said you moved from UK to Australia, so you propably know that...)A German trumpet? Seriously? Mine is American as far as I remember *swapping instruments*I'm always suggesting youre playin a B-Tune trumpet like me - do you? |

Здраво! Trust me, paid gigs are soo much work, it's exhausting, and the conductor gets most of the pay, and the pay rate varies depending on the age of the musician (I get very little, I'm still at school ). Keeping in mind this is my first year of doing proper, paid gigs.Ah, good old Ode to Joy (took me ages to get that right, I struggle with easy pieces but I'm fine with harder ones, don't ask), I drove mum mad with that when I finally learnt it The next person that says something about playing left-handed, blow a reaaaaally high note in their ear. I once had to play trumpet left-handed after I broke my arm and I struggled. You'll get better, just keep at it...you must persevere I know the feels about homesickness, have a homesickness hug *hugs* Okay, I'll swap trumpets *hands you my instruments* And yep, my instrument's in Bb...is that the only tune thingy they come in? |

Guten tag (is that correct? I haven't done German for years )!What I play depends on which band I'm in, but currently; JAZZ BAND- Classic swing music, some popular music, rock, too SYMPHONIC BAND- Film soundtrack, anything old or well-known ORCHESTRA (paid gigs)- For the concert I'm doing in November, we're doing a videohame tribute, where we play sountracks from games such as World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Skyrim, Bioshock, just any popular videogame with an amazing orchestral score (can't wait for the actual gig ) Teacher-wise, I've had many good teachers (and bad ones too), but all of which have been very good, I'm happy. Enough about me, what about you ?

Ohh fuuuu....! I'm so sorry! I thought Id already have posted! Guten Tag is right (only that "Tag" is written with a capital letter )I'm currently playing (or more trying to play) Eternal Flame - I had to transpose it into trumpet-tune myself and now there are lots of stupid half notes in it that are completely confusing to play - I always forget them My music teacher here is called Happy Mary (guess why - shes always in a good mood ). Anyway, she gave me a room to practice in before school Why i chose the trumpet: My mum always wanted some kind of musical education for me, so I learned to play the recorder (or flute - idk how its called ), but I lost interest very fast. Same with the piano. I'm extremely unpatient, I know....One day, I visited one of my cousins, she allowed me to give her french horn a try - and I liked it! ![]() So after a short time my dear mum (yeah shes obsessed with music, like me - and I thank her for making music such a big part of my life! ) took me to an open day at the music school in my town. I actually wanted to go there because of the guitar class, but Im quite individualistic and when I saw all the people in front of the room that day I decided not to go there xDI went to the brazzroom instead - I tried out a Trumpet - and fell in love with it! ![]() I know thats kinda weird, but its true ![]() I waited nearly two years, because there was no teacher avaliable in my town - so in the end even my dad was convinced that it wasn't just one of my crazy ideas... :heheh _______ I didnt expect such a long text - I hope everything makes sense...Im too tired right now... Nej nej, it's fine! Humor is the only thing I cannot pick up online . It's great that you love brass instruments, I didn't mean any offence.
