THE GEAR WAR STORY: Space, no longer the last frontier. Humanity has spread across the vastness, cultivating and inhabiting countless words. Humanity is greedy though and with such room we are constantly looking for other worlds with richer resources and always attempting to make contact with some other race, preferably alien. As space becomes more familiar we become lax with security and take less precautions when we scan new sectors of the galaxy. Our laziness would thrust us into a struggle to survive, to fight for our very existence against an enemy that has no feelings, no sense of surrender. This history would later be written down in historical texts as The Gear War. Let me tell you how this began.... Machines on some outpost a long-range recon fleet stumbles upon activate at the presence of alien technology and signal the home "world". They begin targeting and destroy the recon fleet. The machines, their programming coming into action then begin seeking other human technology, destroying it and all life associated with it without prejudice. Humanity hastily calls upon its fleets to defend the worlds. The once proud United Space Command Armada has been spread too far and much too thin and slowly planets begin to fall under machine control. The USC begins hastily hiring recruits and building bigger, more heavily armed and armored ships to battle the machine scourge. This is the maiden voyage of the Nautilus Fleet, the hope of humanity! Rules:
Template: Name: The name of your character. Age: How old is your character? USC Rank: The rank your character wields, pilots of fighters should at least be Lieutenants. There can only be one Admiral, which my character will be playing. You can have a Captain if you wish. If you desire to be a USC Marine, feel free. Ship Assigned To: Tell us about the ship you're on. Are you aboard the flagship of the fleet, the Indomitable Spirit? If you're a Captain, tell us the name of your ship and perhaps give a picture. (I'll need to specially approve your ship so pick carefully.) Appearance: Tell us a little about your character's physical appearance and clothing. Could even differentiate between on and off-duty clothing. Personality: What sort of personality traits does your character exhibit? Are they a hero in front of others and cry themselves to sleep? Or are they cold, seemingly heartless ones who can order others to their deaths without remorse. Other: Anything else you feel like telling us. Could even be the space you use to tell us about your own ship Captains!

Name: Christopher Raleigh Borden Age: 46 USC Rank: Admiral of the Nautilus Fleet Ship Assigned To: Indomitable Spirit, the flagship of the Nautilus Fleet. Captain of the ship. Appearance: ![]() Personality: A rare man, Chris believes that a true leader needs to be harsh and rewarding. He will punish for acts of insubordination, never pursuing the death penalty. He will also rewards acts of valor and heroism in his crew oftentimes going so far as to announce the awarding to the entire crew of the Indomitable Spirit. He is tactful, observant and truthful. Ask his mind and he will bar nothing from his words. Fiercely loyal to his crew, he embodies the captains of humanity's old texts. He would go down with his ship. Entrusted with the future of humanity's strongest asset he is oftentimes shouldered with a great weight and can seem exhausted mentally at times. He will consider all strategies viable for a situation before pursuing his course of action. To sum up his personality, he is exactly what humanity needs in a leader in their dark, trying times. Name: McKenzie Wagner Age: 33 USC Rank: Commander Ship Assigned To: USS Conqueror, rushed into service as part of Nautilus Fleet. Cmdr. Wagner, known as the Iron Maiden to her crew, is her ship's first commanding officer. Appearance: Personality: Known as "the Iron Maiden" for her stern countenance and outwardly cold demeanor, Wagner is also known for never losing her temper. She is a results-oriented person who challenges her crew to the utmost while knowing when to draw back on the proverbial reins. Although new to being a ship's commander, she has served on several ships within the Fleet, including having once been assigned to Admiral Borden's flagship years before as an Ensign just out of the Academy back when Borden was merley a ship's captain. As with Admiral Borden, Wagner understands what the stakes are in this war and is perfectly willing to sacrifice herself and Conqueror if needed. Other: |

The Autodidact

Name: Edgar J. B. Sheridan Age: 42 USC Rank: Commodore Ship Assigned To: USC Manta, better known as the "Martian Devilfish" Appearance: ![]() Personality: Commodore Sheridan is one of the rare officers who are truly a grunt at heart. He may have the mental capability to be able to wrap his head around tactics and strategies his enemy hadn't even thought of utilizing yet but in the end he does not want to be in a position where his actions have caused a pyrrhic victory when it could have easily been avoided early on. He's at the point in his career as an officer that he has lost his willingness to pompously assert himself to everyone, which has actually increased his crew's dedication towards him and his orders. It also has made clear to his crew that when he screams with his face red, things are getting serious and somebody has seriously messed up instead of it being just the usual background noise of a complaining officer. Brief history: Sheridan is not very familiar with the Nautilus Fleet and the Admiral in charge of it. during the war up until some months ago, he was commanding a naval squadron composed of mainly Martian colonist volunteers with their orders being to disrupt enemy movement along trade routes and to reconnoitre more distant sectors along these routes. As a Martian himself, Sheridan took the job with pride and commanded valorously through several skirmishes, earning himself the rank of Commodore and a commendation from USC high command. As the war began to get worse and worse, his squadron was merged with several others to form a new fleet which would be tasked to defend a few sectors further in the USC holds. Commodore Sheridan, knowing he would not see action there and would also probably end up as a pencil pusher under an inexperienced admiral, chose to request for transferral to any fleet that would stay on the frontlines. He retained command of his flagship, the USC Manta (colloquially known as the Martian Devilfish due to being constructed on the Mars orbital dockyard and mainly composed of Martian crew members) and was transferred to the Nautilus Fleet but not before his ship was retrofitted from a frigate into a Heavy Cruiser. |

Name: Thomas Laskey Age: 36 USC Rank: Commodore (Commander of Destroyer Squadron) Ship Assigned To: USC Dominion (Head Ship) | USC Ascension | USC Retribution Appearance: ![]() Personality: Young and vibrant, the newest breed of naval commander that the USC has to offer. Strives to continue the fleet and will fight until the very end, no matter the cost including his own life. Strong and dedicated, he serves to make sure humanity continues to have its place among the stars. Tactical in everything, plans everything out ahead. One of those get the job done guys. Smart and well educated. Graduated Naval Academy with honors. History: Born on Earth, Thomas was born in a military family. He hardly ever seen his dad as he was out exploring space with the USC. At a young age Thomas learned to drive a small starship with the help of his uncle. His father was killed in a ship collision when Thomas was only 17 years old. He enlisted in the United Space Command Naval Forces the very next year and from then on out dedicated his life to his space career. Thomas has received praises throughout his lifetime from superior officers, being at the young age of 36 and becoming a Commodore he is often looked up too by some of the junior Lieutenants and Captains. Thomas understands the situation at hand, and vows to protect his crew and humanity from the machines. Brave, valiant .. but that could prove to be foolish in the end.
