Silence is golden or so they say. CJ Barnett however did not want to be muted out: He was a vocal man in his mid 20’s making sure that everyone who listened heard only the truth from his lips. Not all wrestlers see their life in the public eye as a chance to do good things, they see it as a chance to sleep around, get addicted in the wild world of intoxicating substances, and of course making THE BIG BUCKS! They did not see it the way Chris Judas Barnett wanted to see, he would revolutionize the whole way people think about wrestling and sports entertainment all together and what a better place to start then ST. Mark’s children’s hospital. “Hello my name is Chris, I’m here to see DR. James I’m supposed to meet her in the lobby at noon, now I know it’s still quarter to but I’m kind of anxious and this is my first time.” The Receptionist smiled at the brown haired man who had dressed up in jeans, pair of boots and a brand new, white European Wrestling Federation T-shirt. “Yes Mr. Barnett She left me your name and the nature of this appointment, and told me to tell you that she would be right out; just sit down and try to relax, could I offer you a drink while you wait?” The brunette receptionist chirped with a cute voice and let her well manicured nails run wild on her keyboard but as politely as he possibly could Chris brushed her off. “I don’t tend to drink when I’m on a job Miss, besides what would the good doctor say to you offering me drinks, while you are working?” Chris looked astonished as his blue eyes met the receptionists brown eyes. She couldn’t keep a straight face and a whole hearted laughed came out of her thin lips when she answered; “Now you got me all wrong, I was thinking of glass of juice, water or even a cup of coffee Mr. Barnett” CJ laughed a bit and let out a sigh of relief; “I’m very sorry Miss, seems like I did not think that trough before I answered your question. I am deeply sorry for that misunderstanding and hope you won’t say a word to Doctor James, she might not find that as funny as you did.” Receptionist smiled playfully and winked at him; “Oh trust me Mr. Barnett she would, but nevertheless my lips are sealed and your secret is safe with me. You however do owe me one so when you are in town again and on a mood to do personal visits…give me a call” She ripped out a piece of page from her notebook and wrote her name and number on it sliding it over to CJ across the counter. “Why thank you so much Miss… I mean Sheila, I just might do that” CJ flashed a smile at her and put the note to his pocket and just then he heard a voice behind his back: ”Why you must be Mr. Barnett I’m surprised to see you actually arrived on time, usually when it comes to “entertainers” such as yourself there tends to be a way to weasel out of the deal and leaving us to explain a wishful child why he gets Bob the clown instead of Frankie the Famous. I’m glad you could find time from your busy schedule to make this happen.” CJ turned around and extended his hand and gave the good doctor his best smile: “Doctor James I presume? Oh and please if it won’t bother you much, just call me Chris? I get enough of that “Mr. Barnett” treatment in and out of the ring. And you see that I’m here as a private person not a character, my first name kind of keeps me on the record of it” Doctor James was about 5 foot tall and had the looks that would and probably do make at least the older male patients and their fathers dream about her at times. She seemed like a fair person and an honest doctor, which never was a bad combination on anyone, much less a doctor who works in a children’s hospital. “Well walk with me then Chris, Billy has waiting for you for weeks for something to happen and if you wouldn’t have shown up, I would have had to tell him that wrestlers don’t come to St. Mark’s anymore, and trust me when I say this: I don’t like doing such a thing to any of my patients.” Doctor James seemed to have a motherly way of talking about her patients she seemed to honestly care when she started telling some facts of young Billy Mitchell. “Billy Mitchell has just turned 9 years old, with the outlook he has now he won’t even live to see the big one o. Billy loves wrestling and that’s the only thing that seems to keep him happy when he is awake. He gets tired at times so don’t overwork the little man, I know this is your first time so I’ll be with you trough every step of the way to see how you do and if this works out well, you might become a regular guest here at St. Mark’s.” CJ nodded and thinks to himself for a while before he speaks up: “Don’t Worry Dr James. I’ll do my best to make sure that Billy will be the champion of today when I’m in there and do what I possibly can to make an lasting impression. I won’t let you down Dr James.” The two reached to a door with numbers “222” on it as Dr. James grabbed the doorknob she said: “Call me Kathy” She turned the knob and pushed the door open motioning Chris to step on in and so he did, gathering all the spirit he had before bringing up a big smile to his face and open arms. The room of Billy Mitchell was not one of the most luxurious hospital rooms, but it sure seemed that the little man who lived their got his way of making it his own: he had a big TV and a gaming console with even few posters of wrestling greats on the walls. Billy himself did lie on the bed and was watching cartoons from the TV as CJ walked in to greet him. “Who are you? Oh hello Dr Kathy, did you know that we got ice cream on lunch today? I got vanilla, it’s my favorite of them all” Billy made a little smile noticing a familiar face when Dr James walked in right after CJ. “Yeah I heard about that Billy, I also heard you did eat your food before the dessert like a big man should. Which brings me to why I’m here, Billy we all know how much you like wrestling so I did make some calls and got someone to visit you for a while today. Billy this is Chris. He is an actual, real live wrestler who came here just to meet you, can you imagine that?” Little Billy Mitchell’s eyes lit up as he looked at the man who accompanied doctor Kathy and pulled up a chair next to his bed smiling: “A real wrestler? Did you really come in to the hospital just to see me Chris?” CJ extended his hand to Billy: “Put it there Champ, I came all the way from EWF to see you Billy since Dr Kathy told me how much you love wrestling. I even brought you a little something with me too for you to keep. Would you like to see what it is?”Billy was so excited he almost fell of his bed: “Boy would I? I like surprises Chris, like this one time Dr Kathy brought me outside to meet my puppy. He’s a big dog now and his name is Crippler. Isn’t that a cool name huh Chris?” CJ laughed and reached for his training bag pulling out a brand new white EWF Monday Night Revolution T-Shirt, just like the one he was wearing and gave it to Billy. “There you go buddy your very own Revolution T-shirt that’s the show I’m wrestling in and with this shirt you will without a doubt be the coolest little man at St’ Marks" Billy took the shirt and admired it for a while: “Cool! My very own Revolution shirt from a real wrestler, thanks Chris it’s a great gift! I’ll put it on when Monday night comes if Dr Kathy promises me I can watch the show?”Little boy did what so many kids just now to do, puppy-dog eyes at the good doctor really seemed to effect the way they were supposed to; ”Oh all right Billy but right after the show you’ll go to sleep and I’ll watch it with you.” CJ had a smile across his face when he reached over to grab Dr. Kathy’s pen: “Tell you what buddy, I’ll make it even better, I will sign it personally to you, so you can show it to everyone and said you are my friend.” Billy was speechless when he handed the shirt to Chris who took the t-shirt and wrote to it: “to my friend Billy Mitchell, the Heavyweight champion of St’ Mark’s” CJ smiles and hands the shirt back to Billy shaking his hand. “Hold that spot gentlemen I see this as a photo opportunity” While Dr. Kathy gets a camera CJ sits next to Billy and puts his arm around the kid's shoulder. “Put up a big smile Chris, you are in the presence of our heavyweight champion after all” Dr Kathy smiles as Chris laughs and smiles while Billy looks like he would explode out of happiness on any given moment. Chris smiled for the camera and right after the flash Billy looked at him; “Tell me about next week’s show would you Chris?” Chris jus ruffled Billy’s hair. “Well I’m facing a man by the name of Alyx Shadows, he is a tough opponent, I can feel it. But there is a thing you have to understand about me Billy: You see I’m what they call a “real wrestler” I don’t resort to foolish stunts to put my body on the line, I do my best to bring the classical and purest form of wrestling to the ring of EWF, so that every last one of the fans will go home at the end of the night and remember me, and what I did. I do what I do for the fans, I do it for people like you champ, I do it for every single person who deserves something to believe in. I am that something that will bring back honesty to our fair sport, I am that someone who youngsters can look up to and hold me up as a healthy role model, not like most of the guys who go in to that ring and do what they think wrestling or sports entertainment is” Chris looked at Dr. Kathy who signaled him that time was running out on their meeting: “Thank you Chris, I know you’d love to be here whole night, but the truth is: Billy needs to rest now so that he will be ready for your match on Monday night.” Chris smiled and he got up when Billy grabbed his wrist with both of his hands: “Chris would you do one thing for me this Monday?” Chris looked down on the boy and smiled: “Name it Champ and I will do my best to fulfill it; what do you want to see?” Billy smiled at him: “Make Alyx Shadows tap out for me, I want to see that happen this Monday on Monday Night Revolution.” Chris nodded and took Billy’s arms off his wrest and put them down to the bed:”You just watch closely on Monday night, since no matter what happens on that show you can always be sure that CJ Barnett will always deliver just what you fans want to see, you just keep your head up champ and do me a favor, look after Dr. Kathy, she will need someone to make her smile, and don’t ever lose your smile, every time I get in that ring and do what I do it best, I do it for people just like you Billy. As long as you the fans believe me, there is not a thing or person who could keep me down. You rest well now Billy and if you ever find yourself in doubt, remember me.” Billy waved to Chris who picked up his gym bag and smiled at him when he left the room and showed him the thumbs up before closed the door. In the hallway Dr. Kathy walked beside Chris and laughed a bit: “I haven’t seen Billy smile like that in ages, you sure did a terrific job Chris, hope you can come do things like to others too, we have many children here who could use a pep talk from an honest role model such as you.” Chris looked real serious for a moment and then spoke up as he walked towards the lobby: “It was my pleasure Dr. Kathy. I do what I can to give people the hope that I never had myself when I grew up. Now the thing I have to do is not to let Billy down, You do your best with him doctor, if he won’t be around for long, do me a favor and let him have the best life he can actually have.” Dr. Kathy walked Chris to the lobby and shook his hand: ”Do let me know when you are free for another visit Chris, I’m sure you could be really popular here and to be honest, I can without a doubt say that you got two more die-hard fans today to root you throughout your illustrious career.” She smiled and winked at him before she looked at her watch again: “So sorry Chris, I really have to go prepare for a surgery now, best of luck with your match and do keep in touch.” As Dr Kathy James made her way back down the hallway and towards the elevators, CJ made his way out of the main doors: “Luck has nothing to do with me…that is something someone else would need, I feed of my fans, their chants, their support, their love. Let Alyx Shadows have all the luck he can handle, I don’t need it. All I do need is my fans and when I lock on the C.J.B all he or anyone else can do is tap…” CJ had a wide smile up on his face as he walked towards the parking lot and his car, sun was going down…while his career was just shooting upwards... ... |
