Every world is bound by a series of rules. Miscellany adheres to the basic rules of Newtonian physics, chemistry, biology, and other scientific research we are already familiar with. In addition to these constraints of reality the following can be included: - Magika Magika is a common practice in Miscellany. It uses the organic energy found in the world around us. This energy is known by different names in different cultures (chakra, qi, chi, force, just to name a few) but the result is the same. By harnessing different aspects, a magika user can have many different results. There is no race restriction however it would stand to reason that it is easier for some more than others. While no magika is inherently taboo, there are some types that are unaccepted by all races. Be careful where you use your practice! Places where technology abounds will not bode well for magika as the electromagnetic field produced by the devices will upset the natural flow of things. Alchemy There are parts of alchemy that is widely accepted and acknowledged as common practice. The exception to this rule is the used of alchemy to create organic life or return something from the dead as most races have laws against it or at least consider it taboo. The same exception applies to necromancy. - Technology If it can be invented, it will be. All forms of technology are able to be found if you look in the right places. Inversely to magika, technology will have problems working in places where magika is practiced in abundance. The overwhelming amount of organic energy has a habit of overloading resistors and blowing plasma sensors. Yikes! It would be better to keep this stuff in the city where it belongs. The only restriction on technology is that it cannot be used to replicate magika or transcendence. - Transcendence This is very much like magika but it differs in one very unique aspect: It is inate. A transcendence user is born with their abilities and must learn to control them. Unlike magik, it is unaffected by technology however most races frown upon transcendence and perceive it as unnatural, often considering its users to be cursed. You have been warned. - Morality While there are things that seem to be universal, there are many moral instances which fall into a grey area. Some are based on race while others are based on location. Consent is a universal moral rule that spans the entire world however the age of adulthood will vary from place to place. Sexuality is taboo for some cultures and in others it is celebrated in many forms. The only stipulation that everyone can agree on is this: If they don't want it, it's illegal to do it. This includes but is not limited to the use of mind control, love potions, or physical force with the intent to enact your will on someone else. If the other party is consenting to these actions, there is no law against their practice. Edited by Toki, May 16 2014, 10:19 PM.
