I practice marksmanship for a hobby, none of that elven bow crap. Good old fashioned HUMAN designed firearms. Its relaxing, affordable and keeps me ready in case my neighborhood ever goes orc.

The man who figures out how to make an incendiary bimetal silver/cold iron core jhp that feeds well will have at least one lifelong customer.

If you really wanna go nuts with enchanting, find yourself a runesmith who can do small work and get a couple rounds of birdshot. Let him enchant each pellet with a bound hellroach or something small. You give someone a taste of that and BAM, they've got a couple dozen very confused demonic vermin crawling around under their skin.

A bit of mundane marksmanship is a great stress reliever for servicemen. I am really enjoying some of the more novel applications of enchanting. Last Friday, a buddy of mine showed me his newest toy; a 2-gauge shotgun with an immobility enchantment built into the stock. He wants to carry it with a pair of cold iron cartridges when he's on duty. The shells are something else, a pound of iron, brass and powder.

Anyway, I honestly think guns are a poor choice for enchantment. Compared to a crossbow or bow, the gun wears quickly inside the mechanism, is usually made of materials poor for enchanting in its body and loses charge ridiculously fast when you run a hundred or so projectiles through it. It's still quite viable to enchant accessories though. I got a cartridge case enchanted with some extra space and a bit of sorting. My mates were jealous as heck when they found out how I stripped ten pounds out of my kit.

That sounds like a great way to have your gun take ridiculous amounts of stress damage and die horribly.

I didn't say it was locked in place, though he almost tried it. He's got a great bruise on the back of his shoulder from the time he tried to brace on an immobile rod.

So, due to some recent home security compromises, I've been talking to my cousin and he's willing to let me have my papa's rune cast .357.

Any tips of care and maintenance? Will I need to find a specialty wizard to renew the enchantments and such?

Well, most paladins in training I know seem to despise ranged weapons. They consider them cowardly and dishonorable. A few however, see the tactical value in them, for those times they're up against shooters or something too nasty to engage in melee. I'm on the fence about it right now. Bows and crossbows can be nice for sniping, but I don't know if I could handle one in closer combat. Now, a paladin with a sniper rifle... that would be scary. Especially with a channeled smite.

I've never fully understood what was there to be on the fence about. I mean as a monk I acknowledge that it's suicide to be anything but pragmatic in a fight. That's part of why I've been loading up lately on what I can.

And besides, here's what I say to you and your paladin friends: Remember that the best way to honor a foe is to come at them with EVERYTHING you have. Every option, tool, trick, spell, weapon, or dirty backhand you can use, use it. Fighting an opponent in a life or death situation at anything less than all out is disrespectful to their efforts.
