I was rather surprised to find there wasn't a thread about video games here already, so I decided to make one.
So, to start it off; What kind of games do you usually play when you've got nothing better to do?

Recently, I've played through the Baldurs Gate series again, which has to be my all time favorite rpg series. Ever. I find the alternate universe setting interesting(despite it's retarded morality system) and the characters are fantastically written. Except Imoen.

tl;dr General video game discussio GO!

So I ran into Conrad Verner.

Holy shit did I run into Conrad Verner. I think that his theories, combined with Tali's recruitment mission in Mass Effect 2 was set to be the original endgame for Mass Effect 3.

Ooh, videogames? Now there's something I can--

>Mass Effect 3 Spoiler Minefield

--Okay, I'm just gonna gloss over a bunch of this stuff then, I'm still working my way through Mass Effect 2. I don't really have the cash to buy big brand new titles like that anyway.

I have been able to get some stuff off XBLA though! I've reciently purchased Radiant Silvergun and Beyond Good & Evil HD.

I got Radiant Silvergun because I love shoot 'em ups, and I heard it was one of the best in the genre. And it is pretty good, I love the weapon combo system. The idea is that you basically have three weapon types; linear, homing, and spread. Each weapon type is assigned to a button. So, besides the individual attacks, there are new weapon combinations you get from pressing two buttons at the same. If you press all three buttons you get this sword weapon. It's pretty nifty. And it also has a bit of a story in-game, which is kind of refreshing for a shmup, though the story is kind of depressing... Still, its a fun game, and now I'm trying to see how far I can go on a 1-credit run.

I actually havn't touched Beyond Good & Evil yet, which I feel kind of awkward about. I heard the game was good, but I never got around to it when it was first released. I mostly got it because I know some fans who have been clamoring for a sequel, and I figured I would show some support by buying the HD version.

It'll probably feel somewhat dated at this point, gameplay-wise, but it's still a very good game.I recommend getting around to it soon.

On the topic of great games that people missed the first time around, there's a special spot in my heart for American McGee's Alice, despite its flaws. I replayed it last summer in preparation for the release of the excellent sequel Alice: Madness Returns, and the game is still great despite being ten years old at this point. The stylized art helps a lot in that regard. My only real gripe with the original at this point is that the combat is kind of stale and most of the weapons aren't useful, issues that are greatly fixed in the sequel.

If you'd like to play it, some retail copies of Alice: Madness Returns include a patched and slightly improved version of the original game, but check the box to make sure, as not all copies come with it (The notable exception being that none of the currently-available digital download versions include the original, as far as I know). Of course, if you don't feel that $30 (new at gamestop) is a reasonable price for a pair of excellent games, you can find the original in the usual places online.

Just ignore the ending man, instead of straining your brain trying to make sense of it.

DoomRL is amazing.

I just killed all the demons of hell! I killed so many they let me out just to get rid of me. Ammochain is a blatently ridiculous trait.
