I used to watch quite a bit.

Haven't seen anything current-ish in quite a while, though.

Here's a good question - what was your "gateway-anime"? I mean, what did you see that got you STARTED liking anime for itself?

Sure, I saw Star Blazers, Speed Racer, battle of the planets growing up - but they didn't grab me for what they represented (bad english dubs and cuts), they were just action on the TV.

Hell, I even watched DBZ when it started to get popular, and that was close - I wanted to find out about the characters and world, not just watch things blow up (which they did there with amazing regularity).

but the first Anime i watched solely because it WAS Anime. . . Neon Genesis Evangelion.

That's funny. Me too. :P

And you wouldn't think it was a good gateway anime. I mean anime can get pretty weird, but evangelion...well, who can forget the ending movie?

Well, it's hard to say that was the gateway - DBZ might actually have been that. I mean, if we watched Evangelion simply because it was what it was, without knowing about it beforehand (I didn't) - well. Hard to say. It's the first i really APPRECIATED at the time, but it's not what GOT ME INTO anime. i obviously was into it at that point, or I'd not have watched it. :)

That wasn't the case with me. I wasn't really into anime, but was somewhat familiar with it, and looking to get into it. So I watched evangelion.

Still not sure what was it about. :O

It's still ponies. :balrog:
But the style is anime (well since it's a comic, it would be manga).

There is a great new anime airing now: Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack on Titan).

Anyone seen it? I totally recommend it. Thought be warned. The author makes great use of the Uncanny Valley

I have no problems with anime, but it seems only a few of them are actually worth my time, such as Death Note. That was one amazing anime.

EDIT: And of course Studio Ghibli movies.

I've seen a bunch, but with the exception of Nichijou for some weird reason, I haven't watched a new animu for 2 or 3 years.

Serial Experiments Lain and Samurai Champloo are probably my top two. I also love Haruhi, but am actually a fan of the novels over the anime, which didn't scratch the surface of that world.

This.

Kiki's Delivery Service was the first piece of anime I watched and loved.

I was never interested in pokemon.
