News streaming forth from Osiris:

Drama has unfolded during Osiris’ delegacy election, with delegate election candidate, long-term member and admin Lemon Love being accused of being the notorious raider Jakker. According to sources, the IP evidence is “damning”. The fall out has resulted in both Biyah and Quadrimmina resigning from their government positions, and Biyah dropping out as Cormacs running mate.

Reportedly Biyah, after he exposed Lemon Love, had been a proponent for banning Lemon Love immediately but this was faced with opposition. Some members of the region suggested that it didn’t look good that Biyah was doing this to a fellow candidate in the race. The issue is currently at the courts.

This is the latest scandal to hit the region since New Kervoskia and Biyah couped Osiris in late 2012.

(Jakker is a General in The Black Hawks military and a Commander of TWP's military)

As many of you may know, LizLemons, one of the candidates for Pharaoh in Osiris has been outed as a spy. What many of you may not know is why. Lets begin.

My Involvement

So lets talk about the situation with Liz, in as much detail as we can. I'll tell you what I know from my own perspective, and I'll let some others tell you what they know as well.

So first of all, I first started interacting with Liz about 6 months ago, right after the coup. She was one of the folks that was working on legal ways to deal with the coupers. After that I worked with her in the Sepatarchy after being appointed to it.

She was a bit suspicious to me, in her mannerisms and behavior. But there wasn't ever anything concrete about it. I just felt as though she was being fake with me. I didn't put 2 and 2 together at the time, just figuring that was her personality.

Fast forward to the resignation of MJ and my becoming Pharaoh. At that time, I was Liz's boss, as she was a culture vizier. I'd go to talk to her about a project, and we'd discuss it, and then nothing would ever come of it. It became evident that she did not have time to actually work on anything, but kept telling me she'd get to it.

The Election

Then, about 2 weeks before the elections began, her activity shot through the roof. It was that that point I became concerned. I imagined she was positioning for a Pharaoh run, but I couldn't figure why. Her activity was god awful before that point, and she didn't really have the connections in the region to make it happen.

I had some discussions with my security team, and without my having to say anything, they brought the issue up with me. I mentioned my concerns as well, and learned that an investigation was not only ongoing, it had been so for quite some time.

The problem was that quite a lot of the region had the same suspicions, but for fear of branding an innocent person, few were actively discussing it.

The Evidence.

So the investigation went on. The real break came with LordRavenclaw. As Liz's Kai candidate, he gained some more access than the rest of us had. The two really damning pieces of evidence came from him.

First of all, the IP evidence. We knew that Liz and Jakker went to the same school. We also knew they had the same hometown. And that those locations were separated by hundreds of miles. That alone was not enough evidence. During a raid I authorized the Medjai to take part in in Nazi Europe, Jakker was spotted on a St. Louis IP. Another city that was hundreds of miles from the other two locations. All we needed was to place Liz in the same place at the same time, and the chances of coincidence went down to almost 0.

And we did. A small mistake was made on the 14th. Liz logged into IRC from a St. Louis IP, immediately logged out, then logged in again from her "normal" IP.

So we had her, and Biyah as Vizier of Citizenship and Security took the necessary steps. Given the persona of Liz was an admin on the forums, there was little room for error. She was stripped of all powers and had her citizenship suspended.

And then we went through a bit of turmoil with people who weren't sure that was a good idea.

Since then, we had another damning piece of evidence surface. This evidence shall be presented to Osiris's judiciary for review, if they'd like. Most of my security team has already seen it.

Essentially, during the campaign, Ravenclaw was working on a google doc with Liz. Liz gave him an email address. That email was a gmail address.

Knowing Jakker's real name and the IP he connected through at college we were able to find him on his college's website. After that, it was a simple matter of comparison. His email was the same as the one Liz had provided, except it used @schoolname.edu.

For comparison, with specific detail excised, they would've looked like this:

sampleemailname @ gmail.com given to Ravenclaw.
sampleemailname @ schoolname.edu Jakker's actual email address.

Where "sampleemailname" is the exact same name for both emails, and is a composite of Jakker's real name.

We've had suspicions, and circumstantial evidence for quite a while now. Either of these two final pieces were enough to bring Liz up on charges. Together, they spell out a clear security threat to Osiris.

My security team has been more than willing to provide this evidence to our own judiciary to ensure this matter is handled fairly.

I'd like to congratulate the work of my security team, of LordRavenclaw, and finally the rest of Osiris. Hardly anyone in Osiris was fooled by this person, and all of us had the good sense not to accuse someone of being a spy without hard proof. Our community has come through here, and ought to be commended.

Thank you.

Treize_Dreizehn, Pharaoh of Osiris, First Lord of the Nile.

Mordor, what do we think? Should LizLemons be expelled from Osiris? What will the long term damages to Osiris be?

Thoughts below.

When I was still in Osiris last summer they were suspicious that Liz was a spy for someone, interesting they've finally decided who they think she is.

Jakkers initial posts don't seem to really confirm or deny the allegations and are more focused on being pissed at his personal details being passed around (which really people in this game do far too much, then they wonder why Proxy use is so prevalent.)

Be interesting to see what else comes of this.

It's often the case that I wonder whether some players remember that NS is just a game, a good one that often blurs the line between character and person, but a game nonetheless. The information dealing that some engage in is one reason that prevents me from going into spying.

I can understand why Jakker is upset that his personal information has been passed around but, like Belschaft said, Jakker knew what he was getting into when he headed down that road of aliases and spying.

I too am curious as to what Osiris will do next.

Without actually seeing the evidence, but with the information provided, I dare say Osiris has Jakker dead to rights.

Every intel operation has an ending point, it must be realized going in that that is inevitable. It is the very rare operation that gets to be terminated by those running it.

It appears fortunate for Osiris that they made the connections, and that Jakker slipped up in the matter of the St. Louis login.

I'd have to disagree with this, compared to most of the types who end up in Osiris gov Liz (or Jakker if it is him) probably would have done the region a world of good.

Purge purge purge.

It's quite sad the way that gameplay and real life are almost always mixed and the lines blurred. We are always playing OC and so you usually find people out by OC means, whether that is proxy, IP address or email address. Can't say I particularly like the way people are found out as it does border on the creepy, but when spies join a community they open themselves up to that kind of scrutiny as they present a very clear and present danger to that community.

It is good to see that raiders are utilising an intelligence agency and maybe we can go back to not fanning outrage when ever a spy is uncovered.

Interesting that someones puppet has suddenly decided to try and commend Biyah (too lazy to check who's that is, but first post in a year is a draft.)

If you remember so was I :P and I actually nominated Liz for an empty Ma'at council seat before I left. Even now I would probably make the same choice again.
