Saw 2 movies on the plane ride back.

Eclipse - I really enjoyed this movie. I loved the whole fight scene - very well done. The best out of the 3 (well anything is better than Twilight).

Toy Story 3 - Loved this movie!!!! And I got teary eyed at the end. I was so glad the cabin was dark because it would have been embarrassing if those around me saw me wiping the tears from my eyes.

Date Night - it was funnier than I thought it would be. LOL! It had a "Adventures in Babysitting" kind of vibe to it, but it was a fun, fluff movie. Tina Fey and Steve Carrell were both their typical barrel of laughs.

Against my better judgment I watched the new Karate Kid.
Eh.

I think Jaden Smith has talent and hope we see more of him in the future - but he can't touch the original character.

would you have felt differently about the movie if they gave it a different title?

Well, the story is the same with only a few minor adjustments. It's hard not to think of the original movie. But the ending scenes - that final fight - the original has much more vulnerability. Daniel Laruso in that final fight was a scared kid who dug really deep to make it through one of the toughest moments. I didn't get that same feeling in this movie. The acting was okay. The musical score was awful - the cinematography was mediocre.

When Johnny and his buddies finally acknowledged Daniel's courage, it was believable. And you could believe that the bad guys still had some good in them - from Johnny handing him the trophy to the apologies as Daniel was fighting off the pain...all very good moments. That was incredibly forced in this film. Maybe something was lost in translation since they had to use subtitles.

But the choreagraphy was great. The fighting scenes were well done - if a bit too violent in its precision.

i didn't want to watch and i was irritated they did a remake. Then I heard good reviews and was going to Netflix it for the boys downstairs. Now I don't want to watch it at all.

Like you, Mary, I love the original movie so much.

You could tell that they wanted to stay as true to the nature of the story as they could - I'll give them that. It is the Karate Kid story but this definitely had it's short comings. Mike gave it 2 stars. I gave it, at best, 3....but more like a 2.5. LOL

I was really prepared to not like that movie but i ended up loving it. The trailers didn't do it justice.

Later I found out it's based on a children's book series.

By your recommendations I put How To Train Your Dragon in my Queue.

I really want to see The Fighter and The King's Speech after seeing the Globes last night. I already had Black Swan on it. I know I'm a Facebooker, but I have no compulsion in seeing The Social Network. I really wish Inception would have won. That movie isn't going to get the credit it's due.

Just watched The Last Song. Why must Nicholas Sparks write such sad stories. Miley Cyrus was okay, I really don't get her appeal. Greg Kinnear was great.

I liked it, but I prefer A Walk to Remember more.
