Exactly! It's much better that way anyway! The theater prices are too high & not worth it. I hate the crazy lengths of movies now, especially after my bladder does not work like it used to after childbirth ;) I hate that I can't Pause it. I hate sitting with stinky strangers & hearing them make noise. The experience does nothing for me. Maybe back in the day, when all we had was 1 or 2 TVs in the house, TVs that were maybe 13 inches, and crappy color with only a few channels. But now, shoot, we have an almost 70 inch screen with surround sound & we get every channel. There is no motivation for going to the movies. |

I still go sometimes. I think the last one was Hobbit 3. I like the experience, especially for the "big" movies. The big theater chain around here (Cinemark/Rave) has a some really good deals. Tuesdays are $5 for any movie, no matter the time. Then there's the Early Bird discount where the first show time for a movie is discounted (it's $5.75 I think). Doesn't matter if the first show is at 11 am or 6pm, it's the discounted price. Depending on the movie, there are times when there's only a handful of people. The next Avengers movie is a theater must for me. That being said, thankful for Netflix. Though it can be like going down a rabbit hole for me. The Heat with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. It was cute for the most part (the R rating is all about the language), though really it could have easily been 30 minutes shorter. Thor: The Dark World. Pretty good, though I find the Thor movies are more about the visual and less about plot. My biggest problem was that the Dark Elves reminded me of the Cybermen from Doctor Who. Really didn't help that Chris Eccelston (the 9th Doctor) was the big bad. (Thus began the rabbit hole descent...After Thor, I ended up watching a couple of Who episodes...ending with one of my favorites "The Doctor Dances" because "everybody lives!" Of course that's a Captain Jack Harkness episode and because John Barrowman is awesome, I then needed to watch some Torchwood and the next thing I know it's way past my bed time) |

Still Alice - Yikes, cried my eyes out watching this movie on the plane ride from Europe. Very emotional and very realistic. However, I was interested in the film since kristen Steward got that French award for it....now mind you, I'm not a KS hater or anything but WTF? She had barely a supporting actress role and what scenes she had weren't meaty enough for me to see why she got the award. Julianne Moore was awesome in the film though. Hobbit 3 - cried my eyes out watching this too (although, my eyes were exhausted from a week of no sleep) All my favorite characters got killed off. LOL Dang! It's been a long time since I read the book but didn't Bilbo have a more established relationship with Elrond? Did I miss all of that? Avengers/Ultron - action and visually packed....good for watching after all the crying from the previous two films on the plane. 10 hour plane rides helped boost my movie experience |

I just realized that it wasn't Still Alice that KS won the award for - so I stand corrected.

I really want to watch Straight Outta Compton. West Coast hip hop has always fascinated me. I read a great article about the art of the movie - with the first part very grey and old, trying to capture the vibe of South Central/Los Angeles during the time of the riots. They focused on the grittiness and products that were prevalent at the time. Then as NWA had their rise, they focused on blue tones to link it back to their ties to the Crips - and then ending it in Red tones with the rise of Suge Knight and his own ties to the Bloods. I find it so interesting how color is used in photography and film. The story itself - I have a love/hate relationship with hip-hop. I appreciate the realism put into hip-hop from this era and have always been disappointed when it was packaged for mainstream with the big money and glam (P. Diddy's era). I've always struggled with the hypocrisy of making so much money from a very violent world. I'm so far removed from that kind of world so it's hard to really be objective but still intriguing. |

We really want to see it too! We'll probably wait until it's released at home, but I definitely want to see it. Like you, I certainly dislike parts of rap & hip-hop. Musically, I usually love it. Lyrically & socially, yeah, I have that love/hate relationship too. In the early 90s, my bro would bring home dubbed tapes (LOL!) of all this stuff. That's how I first heard it. We thought we were so cool cuz we were from Cali too. LMAO! That is why I never got into Grunge like Scott. I was mostly into rap, hip-hop & some pop at the time. In high school, I remember when my bro started to drive, on the way to school every morning we had to listen to Ice Cube or NWA or whoever blasting in the car on the way to school. he he he, a great way to start the morning! Rhett is hilarious, cuz he totally digs certain songs & beats. He can recite several lyrics & can sing a few beats. He's in love with "Watch Me" right now, and dances to it every night. He cracks me up. I wish the videos weren't all still so much booty shaking & T&A. I can't believe in this day & age, so many of the videos are still all about that. So many other cool things that could be done. |

LOL - man, you're like my sister from another mister. lol Yeah, I grew up listing to Ice Cube and NWA. I LOVED underground hip-hop and the early days of rap/hip-hop. So gritty and real. Hey man, I rocked my addidas with the big laces, yo! ![]() |

Watched Chef this past weekend. It was cute and amusing though it did have a couple of story problems/missing pieces. I was more surprised by the number of big names attached - Scarlet Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Oliver Platt, Dustin Hoffman |

Creed - I liked it! Of course, it dawned on me late in the game just WHY it's called Creed. I liked how they worked his backstory into the movie. It was pretty seamless. Love all the Oakland/East Bay influences too.

I want to see that Mary! As most of you know, I seriously love Sylvester Stallone (he's my secret, long-term man-celeb crush ). I'm glad he's getting the accolades for the movie, winning the Golden Globe & maybe the Oscar. Good for him.
