Liv as Arwen made me really respect her as an actress more. I didn't think much of her before - but I enjoyed her interviews and special appearances during the time of the LOTR releases. As for the role of Arwen....I had my moments. I liked her and Aragorn - but I wouldn't have been devastated if Tolkien had paired Aragorn with Eowyn (which was what they say he originally intended) But of course, Faramir ended up being a favorite a mine after read #3. LOL! So I wasn't upset at all that Faramir ended up with Eowyn. Aragorn was too old for her. LOL! |

I liked Eowyn ending up with Faramir in the story. But, I would have preferred her to Arwen for Aragorn. I don't know what it is about Liv Tyler. I don't hate her, but don't love her either. She just doesn't do much for me. Yeah, the movies do a good job of showing the burden and difficulty of bearing the ring. I'm getting that more from the movie than I did from the books. |

So I finished watching all movies over the weekend! Yay! Final thoughts: I think TT was my favorite movie, even though I loved seeing Viggo as king in ROTK. TT followed the book well, I liked the flow and action. Having just read ROTK and having it fresh in my mind, I thought the movie was pretty different. Plus, I wanted to see more Eowyn and Faramir, but only got a glimpse darn it. I really liked it as a whole, and can't wait to catch it again sometime. I just absolutely loved Eowyn in ROTK. Hubby liked her too, and said "why does Aragorn want to be with a crying elf (aka Arwen) instead of this kick-ass chick?." LOL, but I totally agree with him. I did not like Arwen at all in the movie. I loved seeing a woman kick butt in the movie. Yeah, Faramir was a hottie, but I wanted to see more of him. I ended up feeling slightly sorry for Gollum in the movie, whereas in the book I didn't. I liked Gandalf more in the movie than in the book. Merry & Pippin annoyed me in the movie. Legolas was ok--I just love Orlando so liked him because of that. Hubby really liked Frodo and Sam and their adventure. He wanted to know how Legolas kept getting more arrows all the time in the fight scenes. I told him to pretend it was elf magic, LOL. |

i guess b/c i'm an Aragorn/Arwen fan, I feel differently about them. They have a long past. He grew up with Arwen...and the movie i felt didn't really do justice for her character. As for Eowyn, I liked her more when she wasn't pining after Aragorn. I think she and Faramir fit better and I would liked to see them more in the movie as well. |

Yeah, he was always awesome. I loved Aragorn throughout the entire series. I feel weird cuz I've been working on reading the books and trying to see the movies for so long, it's weird that it's all over. That's why I can't wait to catch the movies again sometime. How can I live without Aragorn in my life? LOL I wish the movies didn't cost so dang much. Let me just tell you, I don't get scared by much in movies, but I was totally freaked by that spider-lady thing that hurts Frodo. OMG, she was scary. I'm terrified of spiders and hate bugs in general, so that didn't help. |

I was a Arwen/Aragorn fan in the books - not so much in the movies. TTT was my favorite out of the the three movies too. I loved the music and the overall story. ROTK would have won it if PJ had stayed true to Faramir and Eowyn's story instead of dramatizing Arwen's. I remember an interview with Viggo that talked about his relationship with Arwen. He talked about how Eowyn would have been a perfect match for him - how she was completely different from Arwen, but was just like her at the same time. But Eowyn would have had a better understanding of his life as a soldier. Eowyn fell in love with the first man that gave her the chance to be more than a lowly woman. He was just the first man to see her for who she wanted to be. That scene when she's practicing with the sword and he tells her "You are a shield-maiden of Rohan, I do not think that will be your fate" - it was one of the most telling scenes for Eowyn regarding her struggles. After living in a world of Men who put her in a place she didn't want to be, I definitely see how Aragorn was a very, VERY attractive option. LOL! Aside from being just damn HOT of course. LOL! But I'm glad things worked out the way they did. Faramir reminded Eowyn that being a shield-maiden and obtaining glory wasn't all that she needed to be strong in the world. (LOL! Sorry A, I know that above write up much be pretty redundant for ya) Sam and Frodo bored me for the most part. I just enjoyed watching Frodo struggling with who he would become. I imagine that the elves prediction that the ring would claim his life took on a really deep meaning. I couldn't imagine living with that kind of doom on top of all the responsibility. The end really got to me when it came to Frodo's story. |

On Sunday night on the Simpsons, there was a LOTR parody scene. It was funny. Bart and Lisa were defending their cardboard-box castle from UPS-like drivers they stole the boxes from. |

How can you possibly discuss the movies without mentioning Bernard Hill and Theoden? I admit I wasn't a huge Theoden fan while reading the book, but BH's performance changed my mind.

I watched the movie with the actor commentary - and it cracks me up so much when the elves arrive at Helms Deep and Bernard Hill says "Who the f*ck let these bastards in!" LMAO! I totally agree - Theoden was fabulous in his role. His speeches made me want to ride to my death too. LOL! |

Yeah, I liked Theoden too. I guess I tend to overlook the older actors and roles, even if they're good cuz I'm a huge crusher on young hotties, lol. |

His last scene with Eowyn always brings me to tears. I'm the same as you BK - I ddin't think much of his character in the book. But the movies really pulled me into his character. Hey - did hubby end up enjoying the movies GWTW? It sounds like it held his interest. |
