Sadly, NE Ohio isn't close to much of anything! Started ROTK. Guess there've been too many distractions to leave much time for reading lately. Year's half over & I've read 13 books. yikes.

My ROTK rant:
Finally, Finally started ROTK again, and this time I finished it! (Well , I didn't read the appendices -- I'm not that dedicated!). I liked this one the best of the three, although I have to say it was still a long haul for me. I was impatient with the Sam/Frodo part because I'd rather spend my time with Aragorn & company (although I really liked Merry and Pippin and reading about their separate adventures). I did NOT like the fact that Saruman trashed the Shire. In my head I wanted the Shire to be off limits to the bad guys (untouched in the movies). Didn't like that part at all. I wish Legolas and Gimli had more involvement. They seemed very peripheral to me, which I thought was too bad. One thing I liked very much was the romance between Faromir and Eowyn. I Love Faromir!!!! Just love him. He's not as dazzlingly brilliant as Aragorn (there can be only one, sigh), but he's pretty wonderful (brave, brave, brave! Loyal, I could go on...). I think it was love at first sight for him, but he had to wait for her to get over Aragorn (and over her view of herself as "shield maiden"). Although really, "get over Aragorn"...is that even possible? Love Theodin, too, both in the books and in the movies. Had the best death scene in both. Loved the movie scenes where he says goodbye to Eowin (at camp, and death scene). In the book, Eomer becomes King, movie version -- Eowin gets it. Wonder why they made the switch? I like Eomer a lot, too. He was more visible in the books, I think.
For the books, my favorite characters were Aragorn, Faromir, Theodin, Merry & Pippin. For the movies, favs were Aragorn, Faromir, Boromir (Sean Bean :-), Theodin, Legolas. Maybe I'd throw in Gandolf at the end of both of those lists, too. Have to pick up the dvds now, to rewatch. Feels a little like Harry Potter, sad that it's over. But, the Hobbit is coming!

Faramir and Eowyn were my absolute favorites in the books and movies. I'm still upset about their kiss being scraped - especially knowing that it was taped.

Glad you finished Deb...and that you enjoyed it. :)

I didn't know that was filmed! Too bad they couldn't have put more of those two in the movie versions -- they didn't even have it in the extended dvd -- too bad. I can't even imagine a series of books better than Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, they each were so wonderful. But I'll always be searching!

I love both of those too Debs. My favorite series for sure. LOTR beats out HP any day though.

BTW, Viggo is on Letterman tonight.

I had read that their chemistry was off the charts when they filmed the scenes and were very swoon worthy. :( There was a petition shortly after the extended edition came out to release the scenes because there was so many who wanted to see them. No luck though. :( Bummer.
