I thought Viven was very good...no, her pining still irritated me, I did find her less nasty in the movie. I just wish they did a better job of her falling for Rhett, especially the last 30 minutes.

Melly was good, not sick and skinny enough. She was portrayed completely well, but they cut a lot of her out someway. In the book, her character stood out a lot, in the movie, she was just there. I can't explain it.

Can you believe the movie was made 68 years ago!? It's amazing what they did with color and special effects way back in the day to make GWTW look so spectacular on film.

Yeah, I agree her pining is still annoying. And, she is portrayed less nasty in the movie. I just love Vivien though. She was so gorgeous, and it really was the role of a lifetime for her (and Clark too).

This was on TCM last night!
I started watching it when Ashley returns. Argh! I forgot how badly he pisses me off.

I watched Dr. Zhivago beforehand, but was in bed when GWTW came on. I haven't seen it in a while--I really need to.

I saw a bit of that show. Yeah, I knew it would rank really high. No movie can touch it! :-)

It was on Monday night & I had it on in the background to see if Rhett would look at the screen at all. He loves music, so he turned his head toward it when there was music on. So cute!

G, was that you voting over and over and over again? :wink

Is the movie better than the book? Somehow I wouldn't think so.....unless the movie is NOTHING like the book.

the movie seriously holds up to the book. Vivian and Clark are amazing in their respective roles. If you liked the book, you have to watch the movie, but it's super long (like the book).

I loved both the movie and the book, and considered it one of the better book to movie adaptations. The casting was perfect for me. Of course, I watched the movie first before reading the book so I envisioned Clark and Vivienne in their respective roles

I really can't ever say that the movie is better than the book, or vice versa. They are just different in their own ways. Very different in some aspects, and then not in others. I prefer some parts of the movie over the book. And some parts of the book over the movie (I won't bore you with details :-)

IMO, it is your cultural duty to see GWTW the movie! LOL. Seriously though, it is just one of those movies that you have to see. Even if you don't like it. It's worth it just to see what consistently ranks as one of the best movies of all time & some of the greatest acting performances of all time. The cinematography, the music, the special effects (for that time), the overall production & direction.

It is worth a view just to see Vivienne Leigh's flawless & stunning interpretation of Scarlett. And to see Clark Gable's version of Rhett Butler, which IMO, is exactly how I envisioned Rhett Butler to be.
