Turner Classic Movies is one of my favorite channels. :)

I usually look to see who the actors/actresses are if I'm watching a movie I'm not familiar with. :)

I love TCM! It is my fave channel. Don't know what I'd do without it.

TCM has a Scene-It game version that is so much fun. Only my mom can play with me though cuz she's the only person I know who knows anything about classic film. She's such a cheater though--tries to cover my mouth on the challenges so I can't say the answer first, LOL.

The MGM stable of stars are usually my faves. Clark was an MGMer (of course).

"Bogart, Bacall, Hepburn, Grant etc. "
--Love all them. Great actors.

Splendor in the Grass is a good old tear-jerker of a movie. I really like Natalie Wood. I like the portrayal of old-fashioned psychotherapy in the movie. Tears every time I watch the movie.

I have Clark Gable's San Francisco on my DVR.

Next month on TCM is Oscar month - so we should get some good showings.

"I have Clark Gable's San Francisco on my DVR."
--Woo Hoo! Love it! The special effects were very cutting edge at the time. It is a very good movie about the 1906 earthquake there and how devastating it was. Love Spencer Tracy too, who Clark always admired. Don't like Jeannette MacDonald that much. She's ok. She was a big singing musical star at MGM during that time. The singing stuff in the movie is kinda dumb, but she does belt out a good rendition of "San Francisco."

I love Oscar month on TCM. So many good movies to see. TCM will honor stars' birthdays with movie showings. Clark's is Feb 1st, so he gets overtaken by the Oscar movies. Oh well. I still make him his birthday cake every year anyway. He turns 107 this year!

Clark in a tux, Clark in a pageboy hat, Clark in BOXING shorts! He is such a handsome man! All of his leading women must have been very happy. I know I would have been.

I enjoyed San Francisco. I didn't like Jeannette McDonald too much either, but enjoyed her singing for the most part.

LOL Mary. See why I'm so obsessed? My fave part is when he talks to himself in the mirror and calls himself a "sucker."

Now does he always play the role of the scoundrel?

Pretty much, especially during his hey-day. He was typecast, like so many of the actors of the day under the studio system. The studio system was so powerful and ridiculous. It's hard for us to imagine now because it's so different. There are some roles here and there where he is more of a charmer/ladies man not necessarily a scoundrel. Those tended to be as he got older. In some of his first movies in the early 30s, he played absolute bad guys/villains, worse than scoundrels. He actually got "noticed" and stood out because of his "bad guy" role in A Free Soul (a gangster movie, that Leslie Howard (GWTW Ashley) is actually in).

In the Clark section on my website, I talk about this some (a good way to kill time at work if you're bored or goofing off ;-)

Saw Edge of the City, another Sydney Poitier movie. It was really good, but had a sad ending. I liked the relationship between Sydney's character and John Casavettes' character.

I taped Rebecca. I've always wanted to read the book, so I look forward to seeing the movie.
