It was certainly shocking! At first, I had to take a moment to decide who I believed, Teddy or the doctor!

We saw the movie a few weeks ago, cuz I really wanted to see it after I had read the book. I think the movie is worth a watch if you liked the book.

I liked it for the most part. I always like Leo, so that was normal for me. I thought the movie ending was not very clear-cut IMO. It seemed like you could either believe that Teddy/Andrew was really crazy & again reverting back to his craziness, or you could believe that he is playing along & still trying to get off Shutter Island. I don't know. Maybe I read into the ending too much. That's how it felt to me though.

sigh. Another botm that I finished and then neglected to post my thoughts on.

From what I remember, I really liked this book. I read a lot of thrillers/mysteries, so normally I start zeroing in on some of the twists fairly early on. But this book kept it's major twists extremely well hidden. The clues were there, but I didn't put them together until just pages before the big reveal. Really liked Lehane's writing style so I'm interested in reading a few more of his books.

Saw the movie too - really good adaptation, though the ending was a bit more vague than in the book.

I agree Kat - the movie was a really good adaptation. It stayed true to the book right until the end. Leo's character's last line totally changed the ending (in my opinion). I watched it and said (to nobody) "that's not in the book"!! That last line really made it for a vague ending - I can see how people debated over the movie.

Okay..definitely did not see that ending!!! I agree with Vikks...I feel like I was lied too! lol!! I felt so bad for Andrew/Teddy. Such a sad scene story. I'm still shocked!!!

The movie is going on instant viewing in the new year so I"ll watch it then. Definitely want to see Leo's portrayal of Teddy/Andrew.

I've read Mystic River...great book!!!! I saw Gone Baby Gone (never read it)...really great movie. I'd read more by Lehane i the future.
