Synopsis A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It’s about the disappearance forty years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden . . . and about her octogenarian uncle, determined to know the truth about what he believes was her murder. It’s about Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently at the wrong end of a libel case, hired to get to the bottom of Harriet’s disappearance . . . and about Lisbeth Salander, a twenty-four-year-old pierced and tattooed genius hacker possessed of the hard-earned wisdom of someone twice her age who assists Blomkvist with the investigation. This unlikely team discovers a vein of nearly unfathomable iniquity running through the Vanger family, astonishing corruption in the highest echelons of Swedish industrialism, and an unexpected connection between themselves. Contagiously exciting, it’s about society at... |

I bought the whole series too a couple of weeks ago - only heard good things about it. I'm going to start reading GWDT after I finish my current book - most likely tomorrow. |

I don't know really which page I'm on since I'm reading it on my e-reader so the pages don't really match the paper version but I'm on chapter 14. For me, the book started out really slow but it does get more interesting..... |

It's the financial espionage stuff that's slow. But I'm working my way through it.

In the middle of Chapter 14. Bjurman is sadistic and disgusting...and that scene made me want to vomit. I wanted to scream at Salander to say something or to do something. =( |

finished the book...so much I want to say, but I'll wait till more of you are done or your comments. I found out that the original title to the book is Men Who Hate Women. I certainly think that it's a more suitable title. |

I finished the book yesterday and after a (very) slow start, the book does pick up failry quickly. The scene where Bjurman raped Lisbeth was disturbing and disgusting but I did like how she got him back! I wonder if he'll cause her any more problems in the next 2 books or if this was the last we saw of him. As for the Vanger history, no real surprised - I saw it coming. But it was interesting to see how Mikael and Lisbeth figured it out.... All in all I really enjoyed the book. I plan to read book 2 in a little while. A movie has already been made in Europe and is out in DVD. Actually, the whole series has been made into movies in Europe. And it looks like Hollywood is making it's own version - I saw that Daniel Craig is playing Mikael and Carey Mulligan is rumored to play Lisbeth. Sidenote: there is even a tv show called Millennium in Sweden based on Lisbeth and Mikael. |

yeah..the rape scene was disturbing. Made me want to vomit. My favorite scene was when Blomkvist finally knew something did happen to Harriet by looking at the sequence of pictures and her facial expressions. Genius!! Something always did feel off about Martin, but didn't realize the father was in on it. I'll probably the next book in a week or two. |
