Look I recognise that it's your job, but I would rather that someone with less faithful conviction could do this. I just dont feel entirely comfortable with the whole divine concept. Why? For a start they are just as human as anyone on this plane of existance. The whole notion of a different 'religion' is pure vanity and I do not wish to offend you but if you really want to offer me salvation perhaps you could just sit there and let me walk out? ![]() They say my boy is the Starcarver. They say that my boy ascended to the heavens and killed a God. Horseshit. My son is a no good for nothing vagabound whom seems to think it's perfectly acceptable to fuck off from his responsibilities to go and have his way with as many women as possible using these 'adventures' as means to lure them to his bed. All I wanted was a son. 5 girls they almost fucking killed me. The missus is useless and spends all her time being motherly. I just wanted one hand around the farm that I didn't have to pay for. Oh I got him alright. Head in the fucking clouds and then he buggers off to go find his meaning in life. I got his fucking meaning it's shoveling shit for my horses. ![]() Why do they call you the Starcarver? Well, what have you heard? That you clove a star in two. Then thats what happened. Thats it? There must be more then that? There is, largely irrelevant but it all explains in minor aspects how I ended up infront of a star. And the God? Ah...You know about that? It's becoming public gossip Thats a bit more complicated and honestly it was a slight accident. Killing a God accidentally? It was like walking into a dream, I arrived too early. ![]() Sykes, oh yeah my brother. Yeah he's dead. Fell down a well or sommat. ![]() Well it all started with my father really. I was born into a large family of women and naturally my gaffer was looking for some cheap labour. He made this explicitly clear to me as soon as i could understand it. I still am baffled as to how he was so mad when I did eventually leave. He's still mad You went to see him? Yes. I felt it was needed. He said he had your meaning of life and it was shovelling his horses droppings. Well you can understand my point can't you? I've always felt like I was destined for something and I knew that sitting in a farm wasting away doing sod all was going to help me achieve it.What ever it was. I grabbed a staff and headed to the nearest town. It was Mere. I'm from Mere No shit? Do you know Argus? Which one? there was a whole family called Argus by the time I left Maccy B Argus? Yes I know them ![]() Sykes Ash? Whose Sykes Ash He said he knew you? Wots e look like? Not heroic and in chains. OH SYKES! Shit, e's still alive? Thought he fell down a well? ![]() I was crimped. Within about an hour or so having stored my life in a stow under a bed in an inn I was a drugged and woke up in chains in the hull of a boat. I honestly think the only thing that saved me was my natural charisma. We were all taken to the Captains Quarters. We all lined up outside his door under spear and chain. He met us one by one and judging by the speed the line shrank he was a fast man. Given I was the only one of fair complexion and they couldn't speak it probably saved my life. When it was my turn he was sitting at the desk writing in a ledger. Didn't even glance up. He asked my name and I gave it. He stopped writing and looked up. Without a smile he asked what skills I had and when I told him nothing he sighed rubbed his eyes and sent me to the kitchen. Best job working in a slavers kitchen. You don't do much. Cap'n Red was a good man to me always had the best of respect for me. ![]() Your asking me to remember a slave? Thats like asking a farmer to recall a blade of hay he plucked some years ago. He was fair skinned- Sykes Ash I presume. Why didn't you just ask me if I knew Sykes? Well...I don- Clearly you know of him. Perhaps I should take my quarrel up with you instead. Put-put down your blade please... Where is he? Chained. Facing the executioners blade Fate finally caught up with him eh. Never would have thought it. He's been living on borrowed time and running from his debtors ever since. Borrowed time? Aye he stole something and condemned me and my crew to deal with his problems while he ran away ![]() What did you steal? Alot. What does borrowed time mean? Captain Red wasn't in the mood to explain it to me. Alot...It means that I knew how I was going to die. How it was foundamentally written in the cosmos and how irreversable it was. Then I chose to turn my back on fate. Creating a debt that only blood will sate. So...Your meant to be here? No, this was an accident. But if you've conspired to turn your back on the very fates themselves then wouldn't they conspire to try and force you back into the path chosen for you? Yes. Thats how I ended up killing a God. It was an accident. What by accidentally ramming a sword through their face? No, killing the God was entirely on purpose. It was him or me. Stealing a Daemon was the accident. I've come to grips with life and realize this is going too far. ![]() Good cook that boy. I showed him all the best corsair recipes. Meat on a stick. Stew in a bowl. Erm...Thats bout it really. What did Sykes steal? A ring. Naught just any ring mind. But a magic ring. ...A ring? A magic ring. A ring. A magic ring. ...What was magic about it? It knew all that was, all that is and all that will be. It just can't talk. It doesn't talk? It's a ring. A ring? A magic ring. How did you know it was magic then? You ever heard of Ikoradl? The boy whom ate from Net's breast and acquired the secret of entirnity? Aye, except he wern't a boy, he was a Daemon. A good one mind. A good Daemon? Well a Daemon is a Daemon at the end of the day init but he was one not commited to doing all the murdering. He was an intelligunce gatherer. So he fed on a God and got caught. His punishment was to be bound in a Hellfire Black Steel ring for eternity silenced forever unspeaking but knowing and wanting to share. That actually happened? You'd better believe it. I've seen some terrible things in this world sailing with Captain Red. All manner of monsters and things I can't explain but the look on is face when he heard that Sykes had killed a God before him it was enough to stop a mans heart. infact it did stop Glugs art. Captain Red knows how to kill Gods? Shouldn't have said that... ![]() So you stole Ikoradl? Yeah. I saw a distant light on an island we were on. It was surreal like it was calling me. So i go to investigate, see what it is. It's this ring. Surrounded by copious amount of divine intervention of course. But that isn't something that bothers me. Because of Captain Red? How much do you know about Captain Red? That he can kill Gods. He fell from grace. Grace? Like me he turned his back on his fate and lost his Godhood and eternal bliss. Hence why, similar to myself he is investing himself in the pursuit of selfish altruism in order to re-assert his Godliness. However given the nature of his motivation he will never fill his own prophecy. Is that why he's hunting down Gods? Just one. The one whom replaced him, the one whom owned Ikordl and the one that I killed. He was hoping to exploit a slight loophole in the convention that if you kill a God you then have the divine mandate to assume the vacancy. Why arn't you a God then? I don't want to be a God. That and I can't run away from the Fates if I ascend. They are a bit more...hands on to those on a similar plane. But I bypassed the inheret protection and took the ring. The Magic Ring? The very same. How did it tell you how you were going to die? It didn't... But you said you knew how you were going to die! Surely acquiring a magical Daemonic ring that knows all that has, is and will be is a means to that end. It could be. But I paid a psychic to read my palm, they said some mumbo jumbo about an island, a ring and then all would end. If I hadn't remembered that and started running back to the ship I would have died. I trigged a trap. The God whom had made Ikoradl naturally would be alerted in anyone stole his treasure and promptly threw a something at me. Something? Well it was big, it exploded and turned the sand to glass and then rose up spraying fire everywhere. It caught Captain Red's attention regardless. He mustered the troops and they surged forward. That was the last I saw of him. ![]() I don't know why San Kerelos was targetted? We are the biggest holy city in the South. Yet it appeared in the sky a ball of molten rock and fire. A Gods rage. Amid the screams, the cries and the fear. One man stood on the wall closest to the beast. He was looking up. He extended his right hand and closed his fingers into a fist. As the star continued to fall we heard an almighty crack and it split it two. Both halves crashed just outside the city walls. An unholy scream filled the air and fire lashed in the skies. ![]() How did you do it? How do you think I did it? Judging by everyone that I have spoken too, To San Kerelos your a hero. A bastion of light. The Star Carver. To those that knew you when you were young. You fell down a well and died. To Captain Red and his crew your scum. I'm inclined to believe that you are a God, or at least someone very powerful. Some inherent magic ability. I'd listen to the people who think I'm dead if I were you. They are closest to the truth. I did fall down a well. But you did everything else as well? Yes. But your thinking about this the wrong way. Surely Captain Red should have at least given you a hint of how I did it. A God fallen from grace having to kill another one to re-affirm his position in his own pantheon. In their own dominion the Gods are allmighty, they can do wonderful and terrible things. Given the direct link between our planes as long as a God is within his own balliwick it will have an affect in our realm and the same also applies. Our belief fuels their power. So we have a parasitic relationship to one another. But put one outside their realm and there is no power. Hence why these almighty Gods havn't just crushed us out of existance, they us. We need their spirtual salvation blindly because we are lost without hope. So we are simply soul....food. But if a God transpires to our realm. They become simply mortal. I believed that I could split a rock in two with nothing but a hand motion and thus it came to be. Our belief gives us strength over Gods in our realm. In short. It was faith. I'm a nobody. A slave. It's all I ever had and I will ever have. ![]() It is here that the extracted memory ends. We have it on several eye witness accounts that a giant steel snake assaulted the prison complex and rescued the condemned Sykes Ash by smashing through walls and doors. He was last seen walking out of the hole in the wall look fondly at a snake ring on his finger. Sykes Ash is a dangerous criminal whom must be stopped. It is the divine Mandate of the Kingdom of San Kerelos that he be put to blade. Bounty Notice. A kings ransom Be aware that Sykes Ash can and will make dreams come alive. So he made all of this up? We don't know it could all be true. But the executioner did not spend weeks travelling around interviewing people. Nor is he employed to hold confessions. Yet 'something' compelled him to start with Sykes. I suspect it was a ruse to get him to lower his defences for long enough for the jail break to happen. Carving stars, killing Gods. Thats just fantasy. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The profile had several spelling/grammar errors, though as I was reading through, I began wanting to use the potential "errors" as representative of the speech patterns of the interviewer/interviewees. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose (pretend it is - that's for the best), or by accident. There's a bit of erroring left to clean up, but it's not unexpected in anyone's profile. I was confused at first, and a more coherent lead-in could help it read easier for the first paragraph or two. The further I dug into the piece, the clearer it was that I was reading a collection of recollections (recordings, as it were). The format isn't stifling of itself, it just wasn't -immediately- obvious. A very minor stumbling block. I'm comfortable with the backstory. It doesn't fit explicitly into the world, but that doesn't mean that it can't be made to fit. Surely somewhere there might be a kingdom of San Kerelos that Sykes may have come from. As half of the planet is yet "unexplored" on the Mythwood maps, it's not a dangerous stretch. Killing gods, and all that rot - wot! Do you have any questions for us? |
