Kritopelixraptor Dinosaurs of the Great Forest (Kritos/Raptors/Dinofolk) Traits Kritopelixraptors are potentially eternal (functionally the same as the Eternal trait) as long as they can continue to find greater sources of life essence to feed on. Once atrophy has begun, due to not having a sustainable source of life essence, they will age and die in approximately 50% of the time that they have lived so far. Appearance These brightly colored reptiles usually stand about 4'-5' high walking on their hind legs, with their head and upper body's weight being balanced by their long tails. In adolescence they appear much like a typical raptor, with the exception of their opposable thumbs. As they age, they become much more varied in appearance, intelligence, and demeanor. Extra limbs, spikes, horns, and feathers are not uncommon additions for adult Kritopelixraptors. While the patterns on their scales are usually some form of spots or stripes, occasionally Kritopelixraptors develop much more complex patterns. Some explorers even claim to have seen them with magic circles appearing in their scales. Lifespan/Lifecycle While Kritopelixraptors are potentially eternal, but their average lifespan is between 35-40 years. Typically a Kritopelixraptor will reach physical maturity by 7-8 years, though in rare cases changes caused by the assimilation of absorbed life essence has been known to speed up or lengthen this process. Throughout a Kritopelixraptor's life, they are constantly feeding on life essence shed by every lifeform, and assimilating some of this essence into their being. This grants them eternal life and causes them to constantly, slowly change and evolve, sometimes in unexpected ways. As a Kritopelixraptor ages the amount the life essence necessary to maintain their eternal nature increases until, eventually, they can no longer find a source of life essence strong enough to sustain them. At this point they begin atrophy, aging and withering like most mortal races in their elder years. Home Region Kritopelixraptors live in small groups sprawled throughout the Great Forest. While their are rumors amongst scholars and explorers of Kritopelixraptor settlements as large as human cities, and the unpredictable nature of the creatures does make it a distinct possibility, there is no known record of a single settlement housing more than 20 Kritopelixraptors. There are no known Kritopelixraptor settlements outside of the Great Forest, mostly due to the fact that most of them cannot leave the place. The reason they are incapable of leaving is unknown, but those few who can must develop the ability to do so by assimilating life essence from sources non-native to the Great Forest. Culture The Kritopelixraptors typically live in small groups building homes on, around, and even sometimes in, large trees. These often unusually complex homes are generally constructed from leaves, branches, and vines gathered from the surrounding forest. Due to their absorbing of life essence, the Kritopelixraptors vary greatly in intelligence, ranging from animalistic to near human (and in theory potentially beyond if they were exposed to the essence of greater beings). Despite this varying of mental capability, the Kritopelixraptors do not form into social castes or class and typically have a very strong bond with those in their community. Most members of a Kritopelixraptor community (both male and female) will take turns taking part in hunting parties that provide physical nutrition for the community. Kritopelixraptors are born carnivorous, but sometimes develop into omnivores. Other than the color of their scales Kritopelixraptors are mostly identical at birth and do not develop any unique traits until after birth and usually not for several years later. The young are communally raised and often never find out which male and female actually conceived them. Due to their constantly evolving nature, most things that can be said about Kritopelixraptors has an exception of varying rarity. Notes For Players The life essence absorbed by the Kritopelixraptors is essence that has been shed or overflowed from other living creatures. The Kritopelixraptors do not passively drain essence from those around them and they do not naturally have the ability to do so forcefully. To date, this effect of the Ktiropelixraptors has not been successfully weaponized by the creatures or those researching their latent abilities. The average size of a Kritopelixraptor is 4-5 feet tall and 10-15 feet long. If attempting to create a Kritopelixraptor larger than 13 feet tall or 40 feet long you will need explicit permission from an admin. (LUTHE NOTE: You will probably also be hunted and killed immediately for sport for being the size of a tyrannosaurs.) |
