Class Progression Changes

Ladies and gents,

Here is a list of a few small (but significant) class progression changes that have occurred in your favorite Classes and Skills and Token Shop subforums:

  • When creating a new character, that character may now begin with 3 rank 1 class skills, OR with 3 tokens to spend on gear enchantments, ability upgrades, or token traits. Pure token builds are now possible. More token traits and gear enchantments are sure to become available, for those who would like more non-class options for their tokens.
  • Characters now gain a new token or a new class rank every 100 posts, rather than every 100, alternating. This change will speed up the process of those who want to specialize in class skills, or in tokens, and will give those who want to focus on single skills and skill upgrades more customization more quickly.
  • The Reconfiguration cost is gone. You may now reconfigure your character(s) once every 60 days, pending a good in-context RP reason, so that the transition of character skills and tokens to a new set makes sense. A character cannot be reconfigured while participating in a topic (to prevent class-swapping abuse).

That is all. Please post your questions or comments on these changes.

For starting, May we take two rank 1's and a token? Or two tokens and a rank 1? Or is it just straight abilities or straight tokens?

Skills or tokens - one or the other. Anything else would be absurd, sir.

Ya, if your starter package is the three tokens, your next rank or token would be 1 (from a class or a token).

So I can actually make a character that doesn't use one of the classes?

I think what classix and zeke mean, luthe, is a 99 or less post character starting with fire, portal, and conjuration as an example.

Will there be other balance changes considered in the future with regards to the posts reuired under the old structure to the new?

Under this new structure you can theoretically hit Apocolypse AND Holy at 1500 posts whereas under the old structure you'd have to arrive to 2800 posts to do this.

Or was this the general intent? To be fair, I do prefer the new system although endgame spells and skills are a little too accessible under it.

Mythwood is set to advance more quickly towards class end-rank tiers, presuming that a character focuses on just a single class advancement and spends no rank-ups on tokens or other additional skills (from lower ranks) in a class that had been passed over, previously. Because there are other ways to improve a character, other than racing for end-tier skills, I don't foresee anyone sprinting to Apocalypse and Holy. It's possible, but that character is missing out on many other supplemental skills, skill upgrades, and token traits.

Be aware, too, that Mythwood does not give posts for OOC conversation forums, welcome topics, or announcement topics. DF did give these post count incentives for those forums and sub-forums (in most cases), so Mythwood can be considered to have a quicker class progression, but slower post count gain, which should help even the overall progress. Classes on DF also used to give an entire class's skill/spell book, where Mythwood encourages those who are interested to apply themselves to the refinement of specific skills, and to the collection of spells in already exceeded class ranks.

I wouldn't rule out balancing, entirely. I'd personally like to see more skill ranks added to each class, and perhaps some ranks expanded to include more options. This may push back end-rank tiers to later post counts. There's plenty of room to review and change classes at later ranks, because post counts are still so low.

If you have feedback on classes, or ideas to expand existing classes, I'd suggest starting a topic in the Member Draft area with your concepts, and inviting the Admins and other members to participate in an open discussion about them. I'm always interested in new (and old) ideas.
