Daren seemed to be the only one travelling on the road to Edgeville. That wasn't a surprise. The village was so close to the Barrows that any superstitious person would make an effort to avoid it. Although Daren may be the most superstitious person you've ever met, he wasn't the kind to fearfully avoid an entire village. Especially a village that is in terrible need of his services.

Dark rumors have spread about Edgeville. He caught wind of these rumors in a small pub located in the outskirts of Strathmoor, and has been following this road ever since. According to these rumors key community figures have disappeared from the village, peasants have been found dead in pools of blood, and an unknown disease has been spreading among the people. Without any known cure to this ailment, innocent people have been slowly dying. All of these tragic circumstances seem eerily familiar to what Daren's family experienced only a few years ago. These things didn't just happen... there was no doubt in his mind that there was some sort of dark entity terrorizing the village.

There was a fire burning in his eyes as he marched on the dirt road. These rumors sparked something into the Barovian. There was a chance that he will meet the entity that murdered his family. He was convinced that whatever was causing harm to Edgeville, may have been responsible for his own tragedies.

The road to Edgeville wasn't very difficult, and most of it took part on flat farm land. A lot of the land was already under the control of Strathmoor, but some lands far north of the city were still independent. Those villages, like Edgeville, depended on on no one but themselves for survival. Most of them didn't even have an active militia. It was actually quite impressive that they have been able to fend for themselves. Eventually, the big industrial city will conquer most of Barovia, and they would most likely let Edgeville rot, until there was no one left.

It was cloudy for most of the day and there were a few intervals where the sun was able to penetrate. It looked like the farmers might actually get some rain today. In these parts, Daren stuck out like a sore thumb. Most of these people were farmers or merchants, but you can tell that he was neither. He walked with a soldier's stride. His chin up, his back straight, and his chest was beating to an imaginary drum. He wore his dark leather armor, with a black metal chest plate. Enshrouding most of his body was a dark brown travelling cloak. A silver cross hilt stuck out over his right shoulder, where his long sword was sheathed.

A few seconds after a light drizzle of rain began to fall, Daren raised his cloak's hood over his head. It wasn't a heavy rain, just some light droplets that started to pour from the clouds.

A horse-drawn carriage emerged from the tree line just north of Daren. It was travelling in the opposite direction, and a frightful man held the reigns. A woman sat next to him, presumably his wife. Her face was buried in her own hands. The man's face was flushed of all color, and his eyes where red as if he were continuously rubbing them. Daren approached them.

"Excuse me, are you both alright?"

Daren's voice was deep and sincere, with a hint of sympathy. The man fumbled to stop the horse from plodding, and brought the carriage to a stop. The woman's sobbing could now be heard through her hands, and she refused to look up at the stranger standing before them.

The man spoke in a panic, "Turn around.. there is nothing but death that awaits you ahead. Our children have disappeared, and our neighbors have been murdered. They have taken everything from us, but they will not take our lives!"

Before he could ask another question, the man quickly whipped up the reigns and fled. Daren clenched his fist in anger, and looked towards the tree line ahead. After a few seconds of staring in anger, he continued to Edgeville.

It had been so many years since he last found himself traveling the wayward roads to some unknown place. It thrilled him to his core that he stood alone along the farm lands for the time the only sounds being that of a mixture of light wind and his armor ringing out with each of his steps. Aruku enjoyed this sensation more then most, mainly for the slightest of moments it was he alone that walked this path. No others to speak to and no work to trouble him so.

It was peaceful, and yet in the back of his mind the elderly warrior knew it would not last. Not where he found himself being drawn to. Rumors had come from the lowest rank of the Whites. Whispers treated as ghost stories of those who came from surrounding towns. It had drawn his interested when he listened in to one of these tales and so he decided much to the annoyance of his aides to travel to the town that had gained such a fearsome, and somewhat dubious reputation.

"Probably nothing," He had argued with Weyland- a Red who saw himself as something of Aruku's advisor, that the trip was nothing more then settling things for the sake of his troops and as the Wingless leader he wanted to do so himself. It had been an annoying situation that resolved itself with his own anger at Weyland who quickly understood Aruku's need for an escape from the daily duties of Sovereign.

It was the rattle of wheels the pull of horses amongst the sobs of a woman that drew him back to his present condition. Turning to look ahead he could see the source a wagon drawn away past him in the direction he had come from its owners preoccupied or in too much of a rush to give Aruku a moment so he move along as well hoping to make it there before the two behind him made it to where they were going.

Ahead of him he could make out the figure of a fellow traveler. Aruku took a breath as he decided perhaps he should end this serene traveling and catch up to the other traveler believing perhaps he could get a general direction in where he was going. His pace quicked steps ringing louder as metal sounded with each of his movements. The distance closed quickly as he called out to make his approach was heard,

"Hail fellow traveler I have a query to ask of you if you would partake in this old man's foolishness for a moment."

For a moment, Daren continued walking but paid no attention to his surroundings. He was lost in thought. Foul play must be involved... there can be no other explanation! His eyes narrowed, but remained glued to the ground in front of him. I need to stop this, and bring some closure to all of the victims... Old experiences flashed in his head. There were images of blood and vomit flooding the streets, his mother on her deathbed, and his absent minded father who hid away from it all in his study. A wave of emotions swayed over him, he had to make it stop.

A voice woke him from his thoughts. There was another traveler, following this road to the cursed village. Daren remained cautious, he turned around to get a good look at him. An older man in a suit of armor, it was obvious to Daren that he was no local. Why is a man like this traveling to Edgeville? Has he heard about the rumors too?

He answered, "Of course, you may. I haven't had the pleasure to speak with many travelers on this road."
