I love movies and I'm always looking for recommendations, plus I enjoy sharing my interests with others. I figured it'd be fun to share our favorite movies of the past year.

The Conjuring 2. It may not be all that original - at its core it's just another haunted house movie, like the first one - but damn do I love these movies. They've got a lot of good scares, but most importantly I actually care about the Warrens as characters. That's something that rarely happens for me in horror movies. Plus, there's that one scene with the nun. If you've seen it, you know the one I'm talking about.

Hell or High Water. A modern-day western. Possibly my favorite movie of the year.

Kubo and the Two Strings. This is claymation at its best. This movie is gorgeous. It was marketed for children, but the plot has themes that are relevant no matters how old you are. It makes me tear up every time.

Zootopia. I can only recall watching this one when I was tripping, so I'm not actually sure I've seen it sober yet. But another solid animated movie. It's not quite as mature as Kubo, but it's still beautifully done and a hell of a lot of fun.

Manchester by the Sea. Next to Ikiru, this might be the most human film I've ever seen. It's about how we cope with grief and how our connections with others can help us move on after unthinkable loss. Casey Affleck deserves an Oscar for this one.

La La Land. It's a musical and it's fucking fantastic. Of course it helps that Emma Stone is a total babe.

Zootopia Is high on my list. That was a fantastic movie. Surprisingly profound, relevant, and well-handled.

Rogue One. The Vader scene, tho.

Suicide Squad. Controversial pick, lotta people hated it. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was fun.

Bats v Sups sucked ass but the fight scenes were marvelous.

Dr Strange. Marvel is handling magic better then I thought they would, and bringing in characters I never thought would work on screen.

The Accountant. Excellent action flick while I wait for John Wick 2, and probably one of the most accurate portrayals of high functioning Autism to date.

And the absolute best, grand-daddy movie of the year...

Deadpool.

I shouldn't have to explain why.

I liked Moana a lot. The songs were fun and it was refreshing to see a Disney princess movie that didn't involve a love interest whatsoever.

On the superhero movie front, I enjoyed Civil War the most out of everything that released this year. Can't wait for the Black Panther movie. Dr. Strange was very enjoyable as well, although I'm more looking forward to future outings with the character than anything else. It did have my favorite method of beating the big bad guy out of any of the Marvel movies (GotG had a great resolution as well). I enjoyed Deadpool, but nowhere near as much as most people I know.

This year was pretty good for movies imo especially if you are into the super hero genre.

Deadpool was everything it needed to be even if it was a bit over hyped.

Civil war was intense and epic, a lot of people compare it unfavorable to the actual comic arc and they are right but you could never do Civil War justice short of a 6 hour movie.

BvS was poorly written. Aside from Doomsday and Lex it was good though. Batfleck kicked ass and hopefully if they can resist not jamming in stuff like they did in this movie Justice League will be great. Wonder Woman is bae.

Suicide Squad. Loved Will Smith and Margot Robbie. Hated the storyline. They really should have just done a live action Assault on Arkham, the DC Animated Universe is still superb. Leto was ok I guess but to me he comes off a little too hot topic.

Dr. Strange was phenomenal. I did not expect what I got and was astounded by how well that movie turned out.

I'm mixed on Rogue One. It was a good movie objectively speaking, but I don't think it was the right subject matter to explore. The world of Star Wars is huge, I feel a lot could have been done other than explaining how they got the plans. I was kind of ok never knowing. A big turn off was some of the coolest scenes and themes they hinted at in the trailer never made it to the actual movie.
