Personality

Undisciplined. If I had to use one word to describe him, then that's it. Fortunately, I don't have such a limit. To understand his personality, you need to have a little understanding of his upbringing. Of course I'll go into more detail on that later, but for now you just need to know that Yinju was raised in a temple full of monks. Thinking about it now, it is a bit ironic. Long story short, Yinju was a terrible monk. No amount of teaching, meditation, or torture physical punishment would change him.

Now our hero (I use the term hero here very loosely) here wasn't a mean-spirited or cruel child. He was just very stubborn, and by their standards (which are very high) he was what they called "unteachable." He lacked respect, control, and inner peacefulness.

"There is a fire burning in that boy.."

Indeed, there was. Yinju let his instincts hold the reigns. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I guess the monks didn't like it all that much. The "wild" Yinju wasn't all bad news though. He doesn't want to kill people, and has a pretty good sense of humor. That's better than what I can say about most people in the world of Requiem!

History

The origins of his birth, his parents, and how the hell he was delivered into the care of several old men remains a mystery. There was some controversy clouding the temple when the infant arrived at their door. Under normal circumstances, they would have accepted anyone. However, this was not an ordinary circumstance. It may seem a little odd, but the baby Yinju had a tail! None of the monks had any idea what this meant, and they feared that taking in the boy would be inviting evil into their temple. They discussed the boy's fate with the Grand Master.

The ancient and wise Grand Master, who has experienced the evolution of many generations, knew just what baby Yinju was. He smiled at his younger and naive subordinates. He had watched them grow into fine monks, but their lack of experience was obvious. "Just like any child, he needs nurturing. He will live here." The old man cackled a bit, "What is the worst thing that can happen!" Some of the monks didn't agree, but the decision was made.

The humorous Grand Master named the boy Yinju Kong. He may be old, but the monk was a genius when it came to naming mysterious children with monkey tails.

Yinju began his training when he was two years old. It started with flexibility, stamina, meditation, and some reading. When it came to the physical training, he was great! He held his own above most of his peers, but he had a terrible time learning how to read and how to sit still for hours. It just wasn't in his nature. The monks would continually punish him for speaking, standing, jumping, kicking, punching, and of course sleeping during meditation. Actually, when he was asleep was the only time he remained still.

The other children never wanted to hang out with Yinju. He was a well known trouble maker, and no one wanted to be stuck doing extra chores with him. Some of them even hated him. He was so talented during the physical training, that they often blamed his success on his tail. Apparently, an extra limb was an advantage (it was.. slightly)! Even some of the monks held some resentment toward him, they feared that his antics and stubbornness would some how change the future of the small temple.

Yinju did have one friend, and that was the Grand Master. The wise monk often participated with the boy's physical training (and purposefully remained absent during his meditation!). He saw potential in the child, and was motivated by his spirit.

However, Yinju continued to struggle. It seemed like every day he was stuck doing chores and "physical enlightenment" into the late hours of the night. He grew used to it. When you got punished everyday, it becomes the norm. He no longer felt like he was in trouble anymore, he was just doing what he always did.

When he came of age, it was time for him to begin learning martial arts. It was an important accomplishment, only the most talented and well respected students were allowed to study martial arts. He had the talent, but lacked the respect. Most monks refused to teach him, but they were overruled by the Grand Master.

Things continued the way they were, only this time Yinju got to unleash his physicality. He was quick to learn the various stances and forms, and this gruelling training even helped him in other aspects of his training. Monks would usually find him doing chores into the late of night, even on days where he received no punishment. It was making him stronger.

He was quickly becoming the most feared fighter his age. No one wanted to spar with him. He was quick, powerful and accurate. He never got tired, and usually fought multiple rounds without rest. He was methodical, and often found himself lost in trance. He no longer thought about how he was going to defeat his opponents, he just did. Out of fear of the other students, the elders moved him into a higher age bracket.

Fighting older and more difficult opponents became a real challenge for Yinju. Some of the others disliked having to spar with someone so young and lacking of respect. They felt like they were being insulted by the elders, so they did not hold back. Yinju would be destroyed in his sparring matches for several months. He was outmatched, but he continued to grow stronger.

Then his whole world changed. It was a typical day of running, reading, meditation, and of course martial arts training. By then young Yinju felt ready. He was facing the most talented fighter of this age bracket. Nervousness would have been normal for a fighter in his situation, but losing has become a blessing in disguise for him. He did his normal warm ups and was then ready.

It was a quick fight, at least that's what onlookers thought. Yinju took several blows to the head, and blood was dripping down his chin. He remained standing, and continued to fight back. Every attack was well defended against, but something was changing. Instinct started to kick in. His fight or flight, except he didn't know how to fly. He suddenly became faster, stronger, and flexible. His kicks and punches became ferocious, and had bite. Although they were all blocked, bruises started to appear on his opponent's forearms and shins. By then several onlookers started to notice some changes. Hair started to grow vigorously all over his chest, arms, legs, and face. His teeth grew and sharpened. His eyes were primal. It was his first shift to his natural form. He lost all control, and finally broke through his opponent's defense. Then started to repeatedly bash in his face. Within seconds Yinju was surrounded by well-trained monks, nonetheless he continued to resist.

It was the last time Yinju was allowed to fight. It would have been the last day at the Temple, but the Grand Master had the final say. No one wanted to teach him anymore, he was dangerous. Revealing the secrets of the temple to someone like that would be a mistake. They quickly voted to remove him from the martial arts training, forever.

Yinju did not learn of what happened until he came to. The young monk-ey (HAHA) had been knocked out during the fight, but his body had kept moving without skipping a beat. He felt cheated. The effort was there, but was now getting removed because of something out of his control.

His only friend was unable to protect him anymore, and so he confronted Yinju. The Grand Master knew that a life of solitude and chores was no life for the young shifter.

"Pack your things, Yinju." His voice was calm and soothing. he quickly pulled out a pouch from his sash and threw it to the boy. "I can give you this for now, think of it as a parting gift." There was silence, but it was destroyed by the sound of Yinju's fist punching a hole through the wall. He was staring at the ground, and clutching the pouch. It jingled with the sound of coin. A single tear rolled down his right cheek. His fists remained somewhere in between the walls, but his arms were shaking. Brown patches of hair streaked from his knuckles up to his shoulder. The Grand Master remained silent.

"I don't need the Monastery anymore." He was snarling now, but the hair started to fade away. The old man smiled, "You never did." He then placed his hand on the boy's shoulder. "You were a terrible monk, but that doesn't mean you are not destined for great things."

What happened next is hazy. Hell, I'm not sure if Yinju can remember all of it. Imagine leaving home for the first time, and being on your own. Now imagine that your home was worse than a prison! The boy was finally free to do what HE wanted. So he did...

He quickly used up all of his money eating and drinking himself into a stupor. Someone his age probably shouldn't have had any alcohol, but then again most people his age didn't have a sack of gold given to him from a Grand Master Monk.

His quality of life never stooped so low. He attempted to work odd jobs to continue paying for his selfish vices, but most of the time he was cheated by his employers. It came to a point where Yinju considered begging. He refused to do it, and instead decided to leave civilization altogether. He ventured out into the forests and disappeared from existence.

After that his life became a mystery. People that knew him just thought he was dead. However, rumours have started to spread about some kind of human ape with druidic power living in the forests.
