Wither and Die

Where are your gods when you need them the most? Pilgrims they were called. Fools bound to the idea that some sort of mythical salvation would save them from the evil of the world. They come in droves to this place of glitter and majesty. They camp and spend their days living outside for the one day when the doors open. The doors that bring them what? Some sort of fullfillment? Some sort of explanation? Maybe it brings the justifcation they are looking for that proves what they are doing has some sort of meaning? If only that were true. Though she had never ventured inside, Hush found it hard to believe there was really something beyond those doors that would prove anything. But yet....she was still curious. Why? Why did such trivial thinking of these pathetic creatures of sniveling existence entice her so? Maybe it was because she had accepted the cruel world for what it was. She knew the evils that were out there, for she was one of them. A creature of the dark that carried out deeds to those willing to line her pockets. She had taken children, killed lovers, framed friends. Her list of darkness was equal to a gaping pit in the earth. No light, just darkness further than imaginable. No regrets. For regrets do nothing for me. Why should I regret anything? Those i have wronged, would they do anything for me in a time of need? I doubt it. Hush wandered further down the stone path, passing many different types of people. Some were praying to the statues that lined the roads, other were asleep. Some had small groups to which they preaching, and others just stood in silence, awed by the stone faces projecting their blank stares across the horizon. Her black robe brought eyes that followed her path. Why do you stand alone? What is it about you? She had stopped before one of the statues that seemed forgotten. Most of the others had some sort of gathering near it, whether direct or not. But this one stood alone. No one seemed to dare its closeness. Looking up at the statues face, a soft set of eyes stared back at her. This face was looking down rather than toward the horizon. A smile formed by the lips. It was a very welcoming face compared to the others. Man or women, she could not tell. Either way, it did not matter. Such a welcoming deity...is that why you stand alone? Hush crossed her arms and bowed her head. Losing herself in her thoughts. |

Are you sure there's no way to get in? Like sure? Sure sure? Serene rummaged around in her traveling pouch and brought out the metallic insignia of the College of Tempus. She looked at it significantly and then back at the guide. It was met with a shake of the head. Growling and extracting a coin; a full gold and held it out. Again. Nothing. It's a gold. A GOLD. It was more academic curiosity that drove this urge to enter. The spectacle from outside was only half the splendor of the interior. Yet. She was barred. Sighing and turning from her guide and looking around. Pilgrims. Everywhere. As Serene reached into her pouch to deposit the coin back and get her water skin she watched the scene around her. Bodies and Statues everywhere. Not one for religion herself it was a minor curiosity. Her eyes caught on a black robe. Hooded. Not uncommon given the season. No one else was wearing black. They were standing at an isolated statue. Given berth from the rest of the pilgrims. Perhaps they worked here. As she slowly made her way down the avenue of statues towards the black robed person Serene formulated her battle plan. The insignia and then the coin again. There was always a way. Always. Excuse me? Well met. Do you work here? Serene had approached the robed figure from behind. In her left hand the tempus insignia was presented and waiting. Edited by Kit, May 21 2017, 04:39 PM.

Hush was brought the world with a voice from behind her. She didn't need to open her eyes to acknowledge it. Fool of a girl. "I would think with all the stares that have ventured this way, you'd realize before you ever made way here what the answer to your question is." She let the words hang for just a moment. She wanted this girl to realize her foolish ways. A figure, clad in black. One standing away from the crowd with eyes upon it. In what world would it make sense to ask such a thing. "But if your ability to make out the simple is less than functional, I will enlighten you. No." A grimace of delight crack her face. The girl would never know though as Hush's mask covered her entire face as it rested under her hood. She preferred clothing like this. Clothing that kept her a secret to the world. People watching, wondering, always not knowing who the figure was. True, sometimes she let herself go in more open garb, but today what not yet that today and this was more certainly not the place for such things. |

"Oh. I thought in that in Siciny that wearing black robes like that meant that you were an indebted servant. I assumed you were in the entourage of one of the holy retinue. Perhaps I am mistaken. You don't have the tongue of someone who is owned. Which then would beg the question, why are you standing out here alone? Perhaps you're here to steal something..." Serene had no idea if what she was improvising was correct or not. But she was willing to bet that she was better traveled and cultured. Thus pushing the advantage. Time to apply a second one. Lifting the hand holding her Tempus insignia and drawing her self up a bit taller. Time to give a lesson in manners. "Do you know what this is?" |

Wither and Die

This child knows nothing of the world. She assumes that garb always speaks for the person whom wears it. Foolish. Some of us dress to deceive. A wiser being would never assume. Hush left out a soft sigh. It was true. The world was becoming more and more soft. The idea that everyone could be guarded and protected and live worry free was something that was heavily preached and taught anymore. Those in power fed on this ignorance of the people. This is how they thrived and those beneath them were none the wiser at the scheme. Everyone was just part of a grand act where leaders met behind closed doors to sell those they swore to protect. And the price was always the same. "Child if I were of mind to steal something, you would never know one way or the other. Attempting to guess someone's motivations is a fool's way." The girl went silent for a moment and then proceeded to speak to Hush. Annoyed at her pestering of some trinket she held, Hush finally opened her eyes and turned herself to face the girl. "Your trinket is of no value to me nor do I care what it is. Why do you insist on poking your arm out like branch? If you wish for some sort of educational encounter, I'd suggest reaching out to someone else." |

Serene's mouth twitched as her brain worked through a variety of insults and even a few magical incantations. Eventually with her eyes staring straight into the woman's before her. The smile faded slightly as she continued to meet the gaze on her "That trinket is the insignia and crest of the College of Tempus. As a Magistar Erratio I am commissioning you as a native (ooc:The following is 'said under the breath') until proven otherwise (off:end under the breath comment) as my guide." Serene was well aware this woman probably wasn't Sicinian however this was the path she had chosen. The petty one. All she wanted was someone who could get into the temple. People dressed completely foreign were often the people who had answers or specialist skills. It was a fact of life. "Besides. Old Crone. Call me child one more time. I dare you." A smile. Small. Cat like. Tempered with an unyielding stare |
