He laughed, but was too weak to muster more than a gruff guffah and a bob of his shoulders when the tired looking wolf strode in.

"You're here propositioning the same madness that I was already offered and denied in not two breaths by the last of your kind to speak to me? What is this? A carnival of hungry liars trying desperately to play politics?"

This place was absolutely absurd. Wolves, dug into their own self-righteousness, with clashing teeth and clamoring claws - impossible to reason with? Each one had an agenda, but they were so far flung that Coelho didn't know how to interpret their society. This one pined and worried for family. The lead male before begged for control. Did he have none? The female wanted blood spatter and covered herself in the smell of iron. Homicidal as an adjective for her was putting it politely.

Coming from a race of persecuted people himself, Coelho had considered the lycansthropes of Bodwen a sort of kin in spirit. They had suffered greatly at the hands of humans we chased them out of their home lands in North Valentis and the forests south of the Crescent Sea entirely. But being among them... Now, he knew that every people had faults, but Coelho never before realized quite so strongly that some of the faults and traumas caused by persecution could be so damaging to social acceptability.

Did they really fear him and everyone else so much? Strong fighters, family bound, living off of the land in the most sustainable ways... These people had almost nothing to fear, yet they treated him like an enemy at first glance. That reception on the shore? What sort of reception would the ghinaari have given? Wouldn't he have treated strangers in the desert with respect, kindness, food, shelter, and allowed them to go about their business unhindered?

No, he realized. It smacked his dumb-stricken mind like a rock dropped from the tall trees. He blinked his eyes, sat bank on the stool, and let his arms fall limp to his sides.

If the ghinaari came across travelers in the desert who weren't flying the familiar caravan banners, and if the travelers weren't themselves native ghinaari, they would be captured, questioned, searched, and held at least three days before they were allowed to leave. The ghinaari were at constant war with the nurn in the north and east. Nothing could be left to chance. No spies. No assassins. No roaming traders giving their enemies supplies.

Coelho thought, the lycans still considered themselves to be at war, just like the ghinaari. Inspiration and enlightenment were a painful thing to swallow for one as proud as he, but he took his sour medicine silently. Only the blankness in his face noted any shift in temperament.

Now he spoke calmly and simply, like a switch was flipped. The end of his defeated rope wasn't when he had given himself exhausted to the whims of the wolves. It was now with the understanding that he couldn't even criticize their behavior. His people were no better or worse than this ravening bunch of beasts in the wood.

"I," he started, searching for words.

"I will do as you ask," he finally sighed. "It is reasonable to want to protect home and family, and to be wary of visitors. I will retell these things for you that I have seen."

He told the things that were in his journal, and showed pictures of the beasts he had drawn. He spoke the names that he had given them, talked about the dangers he had seen, and importantly, gave the dread location of their origin on the Isle of Azzeth.

"So far, none can make the journey across the sea. The carcasses that you find washing up are long dead and haven't already been devoured by scavengers from the deep. At this time, they pose no threat to you. I will be venturing back to continue my research in the future."

He did not speak of demonic pacts. He did not tell of his own powers in sorcery. he told them of his peoples' curse, and the legends of the djinn.

"I do not know their origins," he said.

Kit waited outside the cabin, heard the comment about an asshole and the assessment of herself. She only rolled her eyes, dumb asses always related best to dumb asses. There was something here, it turned the key in the lock she needed open and it gave her some insight into why the elf traveled here, why he risked all. Family.

It was the only reason she would understand and had her rolling her eyes and stalking into the woods, pissy with the errant she brought the food back and swung into the cabin, jerked her head at the other male. "Out, the asshole is looking for you I'm sure." She grinned at him even as he looked sheepish. She waited until he closed the door behind him before she faced the other male.

Damn diplomats. Damn talking really. "Eat, get some sleep, the cabin isn't built for fancy but the bed is comfortable and it's quiet." She shifted from one foot to the other, disquieted by the fact that she was playing the role her mother and brother should be handling.

She shook her head, "There is fresh water in a pail beside the door for drinking and washing up." She didn't want to be nice. "no one is going to kill you tonight." SEE, that was close to nice, right?

Sheepish was the right word. He nearly lost it, actually.

He waited outside the door, hearing her start to relate a bit before smiling and walking on. The wolf started to brush the dirt off of him, not sure how people lived like that.

He didn't usually act, but that's what happened when you lost a bet with a childhood friend. A childhood friend that didn't make a very good diplomat. When Auduin realized that the situation had gotten a little more serious, he decided to step in. The information was well worth it, but he wouldn't do that again. Letting a man who knew what this elf did slip through their fingers would have been a mistake.

"David, take that damn armor off, you idiot."

By now, he was far enough away from the shack not to be heard, even by a lycan.

"You very nearly fucked that situation beyond un-fuckability, you know that, right?"

"Huh?"
A rather dumb look covered the fake-Auduin's face.
"I thought I did a good job."

"Yeah, well, now we know where not to utilize you. And make sure you shine that shit before you put it back on the mannequin in my room. I don't wear it, but it's pretty to look at."

"I still don't get what I did wrong."

Auduin had to take a deep breath, grabbing his friend by the shoulder.

"Nothing, as a warrior. But when you're dealing with people in this sort of setting, you operate under different rules. You take different sorts of risks. It's... Different. Don't worry about it, it all worked out."

"Okay sister, you were right. Stupid idea. It's off now."

Of course she had warned him, and was right. He'd never hear the end of this one.

"I don't like having to talk to people, anyway. He's at least partially full of shit, and you know it."

Auduin grinned a bit as he walked off, towards a shower.
"Welcome to the world of politics."

The female walking in made Coelho shift, and his eyes darted back to the male just exiting the shack. Then he remembered how hard moving his extra heavy limbs was, and stopped shifting. Being uncomfortable was very difficult on no sleep. She slopped a bowl of what looked like cold stew on the table. There was a bubble in it, and pieces of something small and black. Orange bits. It was sickeningly thick. The whole thing looked and smelled heavenly. Compared to demon flesh, he'd eat anything, and be happy for it.

The first bite he took immediately, and let his eyes roll back in his head from the flavor. Coelho licked the spoon clean twice before he set it back into the bowl, just for good measure.

No one was going to eat him tonight. They would let him sleep. Grand.

"That's a comforting notion," he said, piling three more mouthfuls of real food down his throat.

Soon he was wiping the last few drops of stew up with his fingers, set the little wooden spoon into it, and almost dared to look up at her expectantly and wish that there were more.

But he decided that it wasn't worth the energy he'd have to expend to appeal the plea of a lowly man to a hateful wolf, and warmly accepted the implications of the yawn that overtook him instead.

The elf practically rolled sideways off of the stool and into the cot. Bizham the imp looked at her cautiously, picked up a stool, and walked over to set it next to its master's bed. The imp slid under the stool. It was more comfortable sleeping under something. It felt... Safer. But the creature continued to very obviously watch the she-wolf with its beady black little eyes.

She bared her teeth at him, more in absent reaction to being watched than in threat. WHen she heard the first snore she moved out the door and went on one last hunt, one to find her brother and his best buddy then knock their heads together for making her have to be nice. What was next? They would expect her to wear one of those dress deals? It's off my big black ass, I had to be nice for fucks sake, all because you two wanted to compare penis sizes.

She stalked into the house, pinned the now chortling male with a dark look meant to bring a lesser male to his knees. Downside of running around with him for her whole life, she didn't scare him, upside he wouldn't swing back when she slugged him in the stomach. "What the hell were you two thinking? Since when do you get to be head bitch in the reign of bitches and delegate me to the prissy talking and skirt wearing?" Her dark eyes were lit with irritation and her fur bristled in her irritation.

"Now I can't even eat him, Au get out here and let me beat your ass.." If he didn't come out shortly she was going in after him

Ah yes, his sister.

"Get out of here before she wants you, too."

David scurried off, and Au decided to just get it over with. He walked out from behind his cover, smiling as big as he could.

"Sister! How beautiful you look in the moonlight tonight! Your pearly fangs would surely strip enemies of their will and bring any male panting to your doorstep. And on this fine evening, you've chosen to visit me, your lowly brother. I truly am blessed."

He was fully prepared to run for his life.

"Kiss ass..." She stalked the room, considered, stalked a bit more, had David tried that line she'd have half swooned, instead it comes from her brother, figured. Her father had nearly disemboweled the one male who had come to court her, her brother talked them to death when she started looking at the males... She was begining to think that her father and brother were getting together to keep males away. Her eyes narrowed at Au's face, it would be just hte way they were.

A quick shake of the head had the thoughts coming back around. "You know, if you'd use some of that honey the rest of the females would fall at your paws, Instead you use them on your sister?"

"Well, that they do. Speaking of which, I have to meet someone in about an hour. And did you punch me? No! So I would say that my 'honey' was a rousing success!"

He never lacked for success with the opposite sex. In truth, his position probably helped.

"If it helps, I know that he does think the same of you, and in his heart flows long and luscious poems and ballads dedicated to you and only you. But as we have witnessed tonight, he lacks the talent in oration to adequately describe those inner thoughts and feelings. He's putting my ceremonial armor back in my room, if you want to chase him down."

He had to smile at his sister. If anyone would touch her, he would be acceptable. Genetically of course... strong puppies. David had also saved his ass on more then one occasion, but

"We got some decent information, at least. And why would you want to eat elf? They are too stringy. All the flavor in a meat comes from the fat. They probably just taste like bland fowl."

She shoved her hand through her dark hair in a gesture full of impatience and embarrassment, she'd get no where if she continued to chase her own tail, Au was too close to talk to, she missed Kithy, missed the long talks and walks, missed the easy understanding her Aunt had given her. Zara was a great mother but she tended to the wordy and her father... Well her father was where she had gotten her winning personality. Her brother would be lauded the hero because he stuck his penis in every waiting hole while she would die a shriveled up virgin because her father and brother were worried about her chastity.

She was tempted to just start sleeping with as many males as possible to see how they defended one's actions but not the other. She couldn't be certain but... She was pretty sure there were a few litters running around that bore a striking resemblance to her brother, why couldn't she put a few on the ground? Did it really matter who the fathers were? Now her smile went smokey and she shifted into the small woman again. "No thank you brother, I'm off to see about getting some of my own back and David chases too many other tails. I prefer my males faithful, something you don't worry about."

There was fury under it, one of the few things they disagreed on... Why did he get to be the pack fuck toy and she was to be the sacred virgin... "Careful brother, your pride may fall off one of these days from over use." She was going to jump the nearest male to make a point, affection and the whole love concurring all shit aside, her parents had a lovely story and if her father decided to take another female her mother would have ripped his dick off with her teeth then fed it to him through his ass.

Her mothers happy stories about waiting for the right male... Absolute crap, sex was sex plain and simple.

She walked out into the moon light, looked up and flipped her palms out as though to catch the light. Time to let go. She let loose a howl that would have made her father proud if he had thought it another female, one that challenged and called, teasing, promising, hot and ready. She leapt onto the wall, bouncing off of it then with a last yip she darted into the forest, steady heart, steady footfalls. She was hunting.

"I will not deny that; I see no purpose in faithfulness yet, though father and mother did. Perhaps one day what father said about the 'right woman' will come true. Until then... But David is not like me. As a matter of fact, I have it on good authority that he has yet to do anything. Like, at all. Such a good boy, that one..."

She stormed off, intent to cause trouble. He heard her howl, and had to raise an eyebrow. He was off to cause some mischief himself, but he could see David's massive shadow exit a high window after his sister. What wolf could resist a call like that? He would certainly have competition. No one would die, most likely, but there would certainly be blood tonight.

Those who were mated or who knew they had no reason to chase made their way to the town's center. A fire was struck up within a few minutes, and it soon grew and split off into a multitude of campfires that spread across the city. Everyone was up now, and n the streets. The closer to the center of the city you got, the wilder the party was. Alcohol flowed freely there, and the beat of the drums was the loudest. Towards the edges of the city, the guard stood watch, grumbling because they could not join in on the fun. A level after them, the family units (it takes a village in the lycan community) stayed, keeping the children from seeing to much or being hurt in what amounted to mosh pits. Tough-man (and woman) competitions broke out in the streets, and bets were being taken.

Outside the walls, it was another story. The lead female, unable to mate with the Alpha for obvious reasons, ran through the woods, letting a scent and sound behind her that signaled that she was ready for a mate. Only the strongest responded, and now as she lead them on a chase, the competition was fierce...

David made it over to wall and was already landing close to another male, who took a swing at him only to be met by claws stopping his bicep then digging across his face. David immediately ran forward, driven by a primal urge to breed and fight for the female he wanted.

They all soon took to the trees, and that's when things got interesting. Halfway between a jump, he was tackled midair by another large wolf, one he had fought with before and considered a friend. Right now, none of that mattered. Before they hit anything, David twisted himself around and thew the male into the oncoming branches, snapping a few before he hit the thick trunk, which was followed by David's shoulder landing square center of his chest. A half dozen broken ribs, no doubt.

David saw a few shadows pass overhead, and was overcome with anger. He let out a howl, and one looked back just in time to see a massive fist strike him dead center of the face. The nose bone of a lycan is difficult to break, but David had found a way.

Six foot eight inches tall in his human form, David stood right under eight as a lycan. He was only slightly smaller then Raghnall, and would probably fill out to his size within about five years. In another life, he could have challenged Au for leadership, but he never would (and would in fact defend Au against any challenges, one of the primary reasons everyone listened to the small male).

Big, but not lacking in speed, the dark patchwork lycan chased his lifelong friend and crush, stomping any male that got in his path.

The second never saw him coming, as David grabbed his ankle as he jumped from one branch and slammed him down on the ground hard enough to dislocate his knee.

The third tried to kick him, but after receiving a very painful clawing across his foot, slipped on his own blood and felt David's elbow come down on his collar bone with a nice 'snap'.

He was getting tired, even foaming slightly at the mouth, but he would not stop...

She stopped, head whipping around then hiding in the edge of the clearing, eyes glowing with female power. The two who had made it to the clearing panted hard and she flicked her ears to listen, one still inbound a few injured, David. Her hackles rose, despite what her brother claimed she had little doubt that David was no better than her brother in some area's.

She stepped into the clearing, tail up, teeth just starting to show and her ears were pinned to her skull. She wasn't a traditional female, wasn't going to be taken after a chase. They would have to be stronger than even she, something most of the pack couldn't attest to. She faced the first one, would have lifted an eyebrow if she could have. Sam wasn't fast, wasn't smart, wasn't particularly noble but he was a steady sort, calm and laid back even as he started to circle her. Odd to have him make the attempt. It took her less than a heartbeat to slip in beside him, rub her body against his until she felt him relax, when he did she slid under him and kicked up hard, landing him in the trees with a soft woof.

The second was a little meaner, he was always dogging her steps and giving Au the evil eye. She was well and truly fucked if he mated her, abuse wasn't a common problem with the pack and abusers were dealt with violently but Red was... He had her hackles coming fully up, something about him bothered her, now he faced her and she could feel his amusement. Kit was faster, she was smarter too but Red had mass on his side. She could hide, she considered but the undertones of silver white on her coat actually made her easier to find for those of her kind. She could fight and would but this wasn't going to be fun. She could wait for what she now sensed was definitely a pissed off David, hell she could even call her dad but...

She crouched down, this was her fight, she starte... David beat her to it, she had waited too long and his mass bowled the other male ass over tea kettle. Red came to rest against a tree and didn't move again, leaving her with a very winded and very bent out of shape David. Him she could handle, win loose or draw he would understand her and respect her no matter the outcome.

The ears stayed pinned and she stayed lower but she circled him now, waiting for his weak point.

Auduin made his way to the center of town, girl on his left hand and a drink in his right. This one was a little more special then the rest; an old friend. He never slept with her, never disrespected her. She had set herself apart. She was short and usually quiet, but she was strong willed and sharp minded. Of course, she also liked having fun, which was what tonight was about.

He was never sure if he loved her or not, and she could say the same about him. They never talked about it, but in truth they both compared all others to each other, and always found the outsiders lacking. She knew of Auduin's indiscretions, and in truth each one hurt her, but how could she say anything about it? Did she want him to herself? Until they figured it out, until she figured out if there was anything to figure out, she would support him.

Tonight, though, Kaitlin cared little about that. She was smiling, already tipsy, dancing with a great childhood friend. She wore a red dress, already soiled by his dirtiness. No one cared, though. Before the night was over, she knew the dress would be gone along with his shirt, and every other piece of unnecessary clothing. Lycan parities got wild, to say the least.

David tried to slow his breathing as he faced off against Kit. He didn't back down an inch, or stop bowing up. He knew that she was not weak. He had seen her training. He had trained with her father before (who kicked his ass while holding back), and he expected a similar tenacity from his daughter.

She was beautiful. She was strong. She was worth the fight.

He exhaled hard, his hands hitting the ground, bounding forwards with a powerful diagonal swipe (from her left shoulder to right hip), hand open enough that his claws wouldn't hit first. Would it connect, it would knock the living shit out of her, but not cause any permanent damage. He wasn't taking it easy, but neither did he want to kill her. She had him at an advantage; she usually fought unarmed or with small weapons. His axe wasn't doing him any good in Auduin's room.

She let him hit her, took the brunt of the blow and let it flow through her, this was his power.

She rolled, body loose and fluid, as relaxed as one becomes in the deepest sleep. This was her flexibility.

When she slid to a stop she had a moment to catalog the bruises that would surely form on her backside later, a second to inhale then she rose to her feet, shook the dust from her coat but she didn't show the pain. Proof that she would stand strong.

Now she used speed and size, sprinting forward, feet landing hard into the dirt, digging then lifting her to bounce off a tree before she drove her body at his midsection.

She hit him hard, too fast to avoid, knocking the wind out of him. He couldn't stay standing either; she was a bit too strong to just absorb.

Powerful legs... He'd have to remember that. They spun around, but this wass where he was at home. Wrestling was a common past-time among lycan youth, and he was good at it. He wrapped his massive arms around her and spun just enough that he'd fall on top of her.

He breath was heavy when he did catch it, and he extended his elbows to catch some of his 500 pounds. She wasn't going anywhere this time. For years she had been out of reach, but tonight he would finally have her.

She bit him when he landed on her, always sucked when they prey knew they had size on her. He was bigger but she was smarter, or ateast she needed them to think she was smarter. She realized quickly he was resting his weight on his elbows and smiled when she became a woman, black and silver hair streaming out to get caught in, under and around a man, Kit let her legs fall open as though in surrender, set her teeth in his shoulder and muttered "you're breaking the bones in my body."
