Past Life: Human
Gender: Male
Age: Ancient
Appearance Age: Appears to be in his mid to late thirties.
Class: Wandering Soul
Abilities:Posted Image

Traits
Undead Racial Traits
* Unbreathing
* Eternal

Appearance
Everafter is a tall and fit man with broad shoulders. His body has been honed to peak physical condition through years of struggle and strife. As such he has little wasted muscle mass and virtually no excess fat. His undead condition has left with a permanent moonlight tan. His pale white skin is marred by countless ancient scars, many of which are stitched closed. Most notably there is a long scar right on his face. It starts just below his right eye and travels down his cheek under his chin and onto his neck. It is stitched closed, though it is unclear if this stitching is even necessary anymore. His hair is allowed to grow to a medium length for the most part, but is usually cut short in the back. Though it is a bit early, his condition has also rendered his hair stark white. His eyes are a calm and gentle light blue.

Clothing and Attire
Everafter generally wears black. He usually wears a pair of combat boots, traveling pants, and a long coat with a hood that he usually keeps up. His clothes all have what appear to be extra belts on them. These belts are actually part of a certain ritual to bind certain magical properties to himself, but as he currently is now he is unable to do anything with this ritual. The belt around his waist is to secure his pants in place, and is excluded from this ritual. Unlike the rest of his clothes, these belts are all white. The buckles are made from a specialized black obsidian stone.

Everafter usually wears a white mask that is stylized to look like a menacing skull. It was once known as the Demon Lord's mask, in another time. The jaw line of the mask is stretched downwards to make the face abnormally long. The brow of the mask is exaggerated as well, and the corners are stretched into horn-like curved points.

He often carries a scythe. The long shaft is made of the same specially hardened black obsidian stone. The curved blade is made of metal and appears to be fastened to the shaft by many belts. However, these belts are purely aesthetic.

Shadowmancer Cloak - Abel's long black hooded robe is enchanted with the Shadowmancer Enchantment. Gear that has the shadowmancer enchantment hums with living dark energy that can change shape at will. Cannot create more or less material than originally existed when changing shape.

Personality
Despite his fearsome demeanor and intimidating presence, Ever is a kind and gentle soul. He honestly wants to do his best in the world, and help people. Despite being betrayed by those closest to him, he seeks forgiveness rather than revenge. Not only does he seek redemption for his own sins, he wants to forgive those who who have trespassed against him. However, his heart is having trouble living up to his own noble ideals. It is not a simple task for him to let go of the hatred and sorrow that fills his wayward soul, and so he wanders. He is currently on a journey of self discovery, hoping that he can find the strength to forgive his enemies. A task he feels to be more daunting than any other he has faced in his long and dreary life.

He is very much interested in the goals and motives of other people. He hopes that by understanding other people, and the world, he can gain wisdom and perspective and understand himself that much more.

However, because of what happened in the past he is reluctant to join any one specific cause and has a problem trusting authority. He is especially weary of single charismatic figureheads, feeling that no one person should command that much power.

History

You want to hear a story? Well fine. Oh? A real one you say?

Well how will you know if it really happened or not?

Eh heh. Well fine. There is one story you might be interested in. One that I know for a fact is completely and utterly true.

Once upon a time- Ah?

No, that phrase doesn't mean it isn't true. Why, in fact everything that has happened happened once upon a time. Now, once upon a time, there was a great and terrible wizard.

Yes, this actually happened.

I am serious.

Heh, heh, just listen. You wanted to hear a story, right? Well, this great and terrible wizard, he wasn't like your usual great and terrible wizards. You see, he did not throw fire from his palms, or call down thunder from the heavens. He did not summon up shadows to dance at his whim, or recruit corpses for his warband. He was just one man. One magical magic man.

And the spells he cast were that of restoration.

So no matter what little accidents he had, no matter what kind of terrible wounds he suffered, and no matter what horrible atrocities were inflicted upon his wretched flesh, he could heal himself.

No matter what foe rose up to oppose him, he would endure and outlast. Like this, he came to be known across the lands as the Evil Witch King.

However, all good things must come to an end, and it wouldn't be any fun if evil things got to go on forever either. Eventually, the Witch King met his match. The Witch King was an opponent who could not be killed in combat. So it was only natural, that he finally be defeated by a hero whom had sworn never to kill. This brave hero faced the great and terrible Evil Witch King with nothing but the clothes on his back and empty hands. The wise Witch King did not underestimate his opponent, and instead became fearful of this unarmed foe. He sensed a great fighting spirit within him. One that was completely devoid of both magic and killing intent.

To face such an opponent as the Witch King with absolutely nothing, this hero was truly a frightening presence. So fearsome, that all of his caution and careful concern could not save the Witch King from this brave hero.

After a fierce fight the Witch King was finally defeated. The brave hero had locked his joints, sealing his movements but had not actually harmed him. With no wounds to heal, the Witch King's magic was completely useless. He was presented to the highest authority of the land and was sentenced to death.

That is where the story begins.

The Witch King could not be executed by traditional means. His magic excelled at one thing, and one thing only, and it would not be denied. That didn't mean, they wouldn't try.

They gathered the greatest heroes from all across the land. Many had already failed to kill the Witch King before, but now together they would finally have the deed be done. The only hero to refuse the call, was the brave man who had captured the Evil Witch King.

It was ordered that the Witch King be decapitated. To start things off. Then his limbs were severed from his body. His heart was removed from his chest, and then split into four pieces. Finally, what remained of his torso was burned to ashes until not even his bones remained.

The most skilled swordsman of all the land used a legendary blade to separate all the pieces. The strongest warriors snatched up the parts had kept them apart. The fires were conjured by the most brilliant of mages.

After the ceremony, it was ordered that the four pieces of the heart would be placed into separate containers and be brought to what was then known as the World Scar. There they would be cast in the deepest part of the unholy canyon, a bottomless abyss. The ashes were carried to the top of the tallest mountain in all of the world and scattered to the winds. The four limbs were locked away at the four corners of the world. The head was encased in glass and put on display at the center of the trade world, for all to gawk at and be sure that the evil Witch King was dead.

On the way to the World Scar, the soldiers transporting the heart pieces began to hear a peculiar drumming noise. They tried their best to ignore it, but it made such an almighty sound. Finally, at their destination, they could no longer contain their curiosity. They opened the heart containers, but what they found was not piece of mind. Instead, the sight of those quarter hearts still beating at the bottom of that steal case would haunt them for the rest of their lives. So stricken with paranoid fear, one of the guards whipped the horse pulling the wagon, until he had driven it over the edge. The horse, wagon, and their cargo of four heart pieces, tumbled down into the darkest, deepest portion of the World Scar. The guards peered over the edge and listened as the drumming sound echoed up from below. As they returned home, that drumming noise stayed in their minds, and in their hearts, relentlessly droning on.

Similar haunting stories came from the north and south, where a steady beating sound could be heard from deep within the holds of their strongest fortresses. The soldiers stationed there would dream of an endless army of darkness marching through the night. These marching dreams drove many hardened soldiers to madness.

From to the east cost to the west coast, they began to whisper of yet more rumors. Pilgrims paying homage to their ancestors began reporting a strange sound echoing up the darkened hallways of certain crypts. A maddening sound, like nails on a chalkboard.

But none of the rumors could compare to what became infamously known across the world as the Bard Witch Head. People came from all across the world just to see the fabled singing severed head. Some said that it was just an actor, who hid his body in the podium, and stuck his head up out of a trick hole, but others said the podium was too thin. Most people just laughed and reveled in the spectacle. The sad songs sung with a deceptively upbeat and catchy tune actually became quite popular among the young people for some time.

The not so young people didn't find it quite so amusing. These rumors and the infamous Bard Witch Head were called bad omens. Soldiers were killing themselves, pilgrims were abandoning the crypts, and the children were singing cursed songs. It wouldn't be inaccurate to say that the Evil Witch King had conquered the entire known world. His influence had infested the entire world, and the powers that be decided that it finally had to come to an end.

There would be no more ceremony. In the cloak of night, the soldiers were given the order. They unlocked holds in their forts that had been sealed for decades, they stormed down deep into the crypts, and they smashed open the glass podium. There where ever the writhing limbs, and the singing head, had fallen and were flopping around, was where they were set ablaze with flames. They were burned till even the bones were reduced to ashes. All the while, as the head was burning, it kept singing its haunting melody.

Those soldiers who witnessed this sight would be the among the last to be haunted by the Evil Witch King. Speaking tales of these rumors and myths became outlawed in many holds. Eventually, people simply forgot of the Evil Witch King and all his rumors. His empire had fallen.

...but there was one person who still remembers. Even to this day, he still remembers the story. No matter how hard he tries, no matter how much he wishes, and no matter how honest his prayers... he can not forget what they did to him.

Queen Vakarian will be giving this an in-depth review later today or tomorrow, but some quick thoughts from skimming it:

1) The fairy-tale style is nice. Not using proper nouns in the traditional sense works to your advantage.

2) I don't like that he's from another world entirely. To quote Luthe on another profile he reviewed:
Quote:

I don't like that she's from some other world. Just make her from this world, if you can. Being from another world isn't going to have a huge impact on her as time goes on. I promise. People have tried it before, and it doesn't do a darn thing for the character except remove points of contention that could exist in this world were they to actually come from here. If the different world reference was metaphorical, then it's almost poetic. "World" could mean society, or maybe her small, closed off personal world.

My own thoughts basically reflect this. Of course, given that the whole character is kind of built around being from elsewhere, changing it isn't all that plausible. But I feel that it takes away from both your character's interactions in this world, as well as the validity of the world we've created. To use an analogy, it would be like bringing a character from one book/game/movie series (Star Wars) into another (Star Trek), both of which have their own unique, independent worlds.

3) We're not on Redemption. This world is called Requiem. The similarity may have confused you.

Well, first off, thank you for the review regardless of the depth. A short and concise review that focuses on the issues on hand is actually really useful.

Honestly, I don't like that he's from a different world either. I feel like its a lazy way of saying, "if he doesn't seem like he fits, its cause he's from another dimension."

But, despite these feelings, I went with the idea for several reasons. These reasons convinced me that it did indeed fit both my character and the world.

I'll attempt to explain the ones that address the issues you (and Luthe by proxy) have brought up.

First off, I am not afraid of the huge impact on my character it will have, and I consider that impact to actually be part of his character. I've done it before, and while I don't want to brag, I feel like I pulled it off.

Second, I do feel like it does actually do some things for my character, even if its at the cost of points of contention.

He is in this world, because he couldn't bring himself to return to his own. That is part of how I show how strongly conflicted his lingering feelings are. Furthermore, as a person outside of this world I can play him as a neutral observer to events in this world. Which (among other things) gives me an excuse to have my character turn his back on my other character's plot of fighting for magic users in Barovia. Which is something I personally want for myself. It fits the character because it gives him a clean slate in which he can observe the world and the people in it, on his journey of self discovery.

On that same point, the idea of removing connections from this world is not valid in my opinion. The dimension he is from, is similar enough that my character can feel familiar to those who interact to him. This has already been proven through the RP he is in. He is instantly placed into familiar roles that the people of this world already know how to deal with.

Moving on to the last point, the point of validating this world, I again disagree. The description for familiars mention sub-dimensional beings. There are also many spells linked to teleportation. This character even has one of those.

This world is already established to have fantastical magic that bends the rules of time and space.

The idea that there could be a magic that lets people move between worlds does not contradict or tear down anything that has already been built up in this world, it instead simply adds to it.

Though he is from a different 'world' that 'world' could still exists in this 'world'. The only thing is, that instead of an ocean between these two worlds, there is a gap of dimensions.

Unless you're going to demand I change it, I don't see how this can easily be changed. The only way it would be possible, is if the Everafter Empire could exist (or existed in the past) in this world.

And there are several reasons why I didn't go down that route.

Namely, the only continent that could hold such an empire is that one to the east that is unlabeled. However, that takes away from the prospect of players exploring that continent and finding out what it is for themselves. I don't want that in the slightest.

Another reason is that, I really wanted to use the name Everafter for my character. The idea that he confused The Everafter Empress' new title and her new empire's title for his name appeals to me. It appeals to me much less if he could one day wander into the empire and realize the blunder he made.

Lastly, I don't really look forward to the idea of either surrendering my character of the Everafter Empress to anyone else, or playing her myself. Furthermore, I don't want to roleplay with her. Mainly because she frightens me.

Edit: One last, last thing... That point about crossing worlds like Star Trek/Star Wars. I understand the concern here. Namely the mechanics of these two worlds. A warp drive in Star Trek might function differently from a warp drive in Star Wars. In technical specs as well as in practical applications. Many other similar problems could exists.

However, these problems don't apply here, because the two different worlds are similar enough to mesh together. Just like how they both operate on the same laws of physics, the same limits and applications of magic apply. Thus, they can mesh together without conflict.

Tldr: I also feel icky about using that excuse of, 'he's from another world,' but I gave it careful consideration and weighed my options. I found this to be an acceptable solution. Perhaps not the best, but it works. If you absolutely hate it, and make it an administrator's order, I'll change it. Failing, that it stays.
