"When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat.""
|
RETIRED. Name: Call me Michael. Age: 32 Race: ¼ Elok, ¾ Barovian. Appearance: Dark skin, brown eyes, black, curly hair, curly beard (think Greek statue) trimmed reasonably short. All his hair is cut roughly with a knife when it becomes enough to grab. A good amount of dark body hair. Very solid build, large thighs and calves. He has kind eyes. A two foot wide shield rests on his back, barely visible from the front. He has a basic gauntlet on his right arm, and a matching piece on his shoulders and below his knees and over his feet. A vest of boiled leather covers his chest and back. A helmet (Greco-Roman style) with no frills. Normally not work, but on his horse, along with his 7’ spear. His gladius sword rests on his right hip, supposed to be drawn with his right hand. A simple yew and horn bow is usually left on his horse for hunting. His usually carries a scramasax across his back, as a utility knife. All of his weapons have been named. Spear: Phinehas Sword: Eleazar Bow: Jael Shield: Shammah Scramasax: Benaiah Height: 5’11”. Weight: 240 pounds. Abilities: Plant Manipulation, Earth Manipulation, Companion. Companion: Elijah, the metallic buckskinned horse (Akhal-Teke) with a permanent Haste Effect (approved by Davina and Luthe). Elijah is undoubtedly a gift from the Maker. I was in the desert, fasting and calling out to the Maker as I felt He had commanded me. It was the fourth day, and I had spent two without even water. I was losing my footing, fumbling along as my clouded mind wavered. The Maker, in his Grace, sent Elijah to me. He appeared from behind, already saddled and bridled. His strong neck was suddenly beside me as he nudge at my head, nearly knocking me over. I could barely read his name, inscribed on the leather of his saddle. I struggled to pull myself up by a stirrup. I could barely get myself on top of him before I lost consciousness, just as I felt him begin to move. I was woken up by a sharp pain in one of my hands; Elijah has stepped on it, but not with all his weight. As I looked around, I saw a beautiful oasis… I knew the Maker had preserved my life, and given me a companion. He stand at 16 hands. He is graceful, and I have yet to push his incredible endurance. He is tough and resilient. His energy is invigorating, and his alertness has already saved my life. He seems an excellent judge of character, as well. He seems stubborn, but he seems to know when the situation is serious. The bond we share seems supernatural; I could not ask for a better companion. I swear he even understands my language. History: My name is Michael. Know a few things about me. I was a warrior. I have sinned greatly. I have found redemption. I will not tell you my past, because I will not glory in my sin, but let me tell you about my redemption. I have seen the Maker’s face, and I will never be the same. I have felt the Maker’s love, and I must share it with the world. Let you heart be open, friend. May the Maker bless you and keep you, and may you walk forever in His love. Book One: Inspiration Behold Truth! Harken to the words of the Prophet! Listen to the Vision delivered by the Maker! And there I saw Heaven itself, blackened by sin, its towers forever stained, its gates forever shut. Heaven has been filled with silence, I knew then, and crossed my heart with shame. The sin of the corrupt creations, long forgetting their true Maker, have long turned his gaze from upon us. The Maker, in His Holiness, cannot turn his eyes unto his creation. He cannot draw close to us as he desires. How he has wept for us! I was pulled beyond Heaven, into the Void where the Maker roams. He has touched my mind, and compelled me to take his message to the world! We have turned from him, worshiping the First Children, or none at all. The First Children were the first to forget, and they deceived the masses. They were given greater power, but they have abused it. They were to be guardians, keepers of the Lesser Creations. This sacred duty has been perverted, and now they demand worship. Turn to the Maker! Sanctify yourselves, and He will turn His gaze back unto us! Cease the worship of the First Children, for they exist to be Guardians and Keepers, not Lords! Do not be deceived; you will face persecution from those that do not yet believe. To you, the Maker says “Here lies the abyss, the well of all souls. From these emerald waters doth life begin anew. Come to me, child, and I shall embrace you. In my arms lies Eternity.” Book Two: Wisdom and Integrity Heed the wise. Fulfill your duty. Be kind to all. Do not let anger rule you. Treat all Creation with respect and honor. All life is sacred. Respect the power of nature, and use its gifts wisely. Seek joy in love. Value companionship. Value peace. Know truth. Observe the law. Do not profane the dead, or celebrate the downfall of an enemy. These vices should be avoided: Addiction, gossip, laziness, gluttony, greed, pride, uncontrolled anger, self-pity, lust, selfishness, rushing to judgment, and jealousy. These things the Maker detests: Deceit, theft, adultery, the shedding of innocent blood, self-righteousness, intentional and unmerited injury, rape, the abuse of power, scheming hearts, and those who rush to use violence. Power exists to serve man, and never to rule over him. Foul and corrupt are they who have taken His gift and turned it against His children. They shall find no rest in this world or beyond. All men are the Work of our Maker's Hands, from the lowest slaves to the highest kings. Those who bring harm without provocation to the least of His children are accursed by the Maker. And He has said: “Foul and corrupt are you who have taken My gift and turned it against My children”. Those who bear false witness and work to deceive others, know this: There is but one Truth. All things are known to our Maker and He shall judge lies. All things in this world are finite. What one man gains, another has lost. Those who steal from their brothers and sisters does harm to their livelihood and to their peace of mind. Our Maker sees this with a heavy heart. Do not allow Pride to blind you; it is the most dangerous of the Vices. A learned child is a blessing upon his parents and onto the Maker. Live soberly. Let no substance control you. In the absence of light, shadows thrive. Honor your ancestors, and preserve order in the Home. Blessed are they who stand before the corrupt and the wicked and do not falter. Blessed are the peacekeepers, the champions of the just. Blessed are those who help the poor and the sick. Blessed are those who endure. Their perseverance shall be rewarded. Cursed are those who hunger for power; they shall consume themselves. Blessed are those who support legitimate rule. The Maker reward order, and detests chaos. Blessed are those who give to the needy and feed the starving. Blessed are those who stay their blades; the sword is only for the protection of life. Those who kill unjustly shall likewise meet their end. Blessed are those who work, and cursed are those who steal. Like a handful of sand, everything they grasp will run through their fingers. Blessed are the Governments who serve their people, and protect their citizens jealously. Blessed are the righteous, the lights in the shadow. In their blood the Maker's will is written. Blessed is the man who says: "My hearth is yours, my bread is yours, my life is yours. For all who walk in the sight of the Maker are one." The one who repents, who has faith, unshaken by the darkness of the world, she shall know true peace. Many are those who wander in sin, Despairing that they are lost forever, But the one who repents, who has faith Unshaken by the darkness of the world, And boasts not, nor gloats Over the misfortunes of the weak, but takes delight In the Maker's law and creations, she shall know The peace of the Maker's benediction. The Light shall lead his safely Through the paths of this world, and into the next. For she who trusts in the Maker, fire is her water. As the moth sees light and goes toward flame, She should see fire and go towards Light. Death holds no uncertainty for her, And she will not know fear, for the Maker Shall be her beacon and her shield, her foundation and her sword. Book Three: The Song of Creation There was no word For heaven or for earth, for sea or sky. All that existed was silence. Then the Voice of the Maker rang out, The first Word, And His Word became all that might be: Dream and idea, hope and fear, Endless possibilities. And from it made his firstborn. And he said to them: In My image I forge you, To you I give dominion Over all that exists. By your will May all things be done. These were the First Children. Then in the center of heaven He called forth A city with towers of gold, streets with music for cobblestones, And banners which flew without wind. There, He dwelled, waiting To see the wonders His children would create. The children of the Maker gathered Before his golden throne And sang hymns of praise unending. But their songs Were the songs of the cobblestones. They shone with the golden light Reflected from the Maker's throne. They held forth the banners That flew on their own. And the Voice of the Maker shook the Void Saying: “In My image I have wrought My firstborn. You have been given dominion Over all that exists. By your will All things are done. Yet you do nothing. The realm I have given you Is formless, ever-changing.” And He knew he had wrought amiss. So the Maker turned from his firstborn And took from the Void A measure of its living flesh And spoke to it, saying: Here, I decree Opposition in all things: For earth, sky For winter, summer For darkness, Light. By My Will alone is Balance sundered And the world given new life. And no longer was it formless, ever-changing, But held fast, immutable, With Words for heaven and for earth, sea and sky. At last did the Maker From the living world Make the Living. Immutable, as the substance of the earth, With souls made of dream and idea, hope and fear, Endless possibilities. Then the Maker said: To you, my second-born, I grant this gift: In your heart shall burn An unquenchable flame All-consuming, and never satisfied. From the dust I crafted you, And to the dust you shall return And then the Maker sealed the gates Of the Golden City And there, He dwelled, waiting To see the wonders His Second Children would create Under the Watchful eye Of the First. Book Four: The Prayers of the Prophets Guide me through the blackest nights Steel my heart against the temptations of the wicked Make me to rest in the warmest places. O Creator, see me kneel: For I walk only where You would bid me Stand only in places You have blessed Sing only the words You place in my throat My Maker, know my heart Take from me a life of sorrow Lift me from a world of pain Judge me worthy of Your endless pride My Creator, judge me whole: Find me well within Your grace Touch me with fire that I be cleansed Tell me I have sung to Your approval O Maker, hear my cry: Seat me by Your side in death Make me one within Your glory And let the world once more see Your favor For You are the fire at the heart of the world And comfort is only Yours to give. Maker, my enemies are abundant. Many are those who rise up against me. But my faith sustains me; I shall not fear the legion, Should they set themselves against me. Maker, though the darkness comes upon me, I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm. I shall endure. What you have created, no one can tear asunder. Though all before me is shadow, Yet shall the Maker be my guide. I shall not be left to wander the drifting roads of the Beyond. For there is no darkness in the Maker's Light And nothing that He has wrought shall be lost. Draw your last breath, my friends, Cross the Void and all the stars in the sky. Rest at the Maker's right hand, And be Forgiven. OOC Note: This religion is a tribute to great real traditions and well written fictitious belief systems. The writings are not entirely original to me (though a portion is), and I don't dare take credit for them (thought I have edited them for consistency and applicability). The Dragon Age Chant of Light and the Qun and the principles of the Skyrim Divines were both used as resources. The Chant of Light was most heavily used, and is often quoted directly (like, all of Book 3 and 4, and half of 1 and some of 2). They encourage fan fic, so I doubt they'll mind what I borrowed. In any case, I do not own it. Also, not trying to actually alter lore here. This represents a belief of the character. It's up to you and your characters if you'll take it as truth or not.
