Dire Green

Name: Belladonna Ereshki

Race: Elok/Undead

Gender: Female

Age: 25 (appears 17)

Traits: Eternal, Unbreathing

Abilities: Plant Alchemy, Earth Alchemy, Companion

Appearance:

Tan of skin and blue eyes that sparkled like opals, she was quite small compared to the those of her kind who shared her living age. Her lightly tanned skin was not uncommon for her people, but her navy blue eyes were a rare sight and were a sign of her magical prowess. Unlike the rest of her tribe, she was a tiny little thing, only 4'7 and 93lbs. Just because she was small didn't mean she couldn't be womanly, of course. Bella's chest wasn't overly big, but it definitely wasn't lacking at all, and her hips matched up perfectly proportion wise. Her dark brown hair was cut short, at shoulder length, which wasn't traditional at all for the heir to the chief.

Clothing and Attire:

Not partial to wearing sleeveless shirts and short cut leggings, Belladonna did not concern herself with her outward appearance and attire. Used to wearing what was practical for the situation or season, she always turned out to be more beautiful than she thought herself to be. Even while wearing leather clad garb, she would turn out to be very pretty, no matter how hard she would try otherwise.

Personality:

Being born as the first and only daughter to the chief of her tribe had set her apart from the others from the get go. She was subjected to situations and obligations that were necessary to those in her position. It was not the first time that a girl was in line for chief, so she was able to perform her duties as the first heir. The problem however, was that she didn't want the job. She hated the tribe and their narrow-minded ways. She didn't even want to be the next chief, unfortunately her mother had died giving birth to her, so she had no siblings to pawn her responsibilities on to. Even with her spunky and rebellious nature, her father Aren was adamant with her training and studies of their traditions.

History:

I hate this place! I don't care what he says I am getting out of here. I can't take it anymore!

Ever since she turned 17, which was the age her people were considered adults, her father had become harder on her. He would check on her five or six times whenever he had her do something, which was twice as much as before! And if she ever became lax or made a mistake whenever she was practicing one of their many rituals, he would stop her and make her start all over from the beginning. It was all very tedious and tiring work that was quickly frustrating her.

Not being able to stand it any longer, Bella finally decided to confront her father about it and tell him that she was going to leave the tribe. She didn't care if she was the next in line for his job, she didn't even want the responsibility. She was sure that if she left one of her cousins would step up and take her place, it wasn't like they didn't already want it. So it was with this line of thought that she stopped what she was doing and strutted of towards where her father was.

She found him sitting on an old stump, with one foot under his knee and the other foot on the ground. He was leaning down, resting his chin on his palm and his elbow on his knee, with a smirk on his face like he was expecting her. He was a handsome fellow despite his age, with his toned chest out in the open and the rest of his muscles obvious from his skin tight clothing. His nappy hair went in every direction, littered with all sorts of decoration from beads and ties to colored feathers and dried plants. Even being the heart of tradition, it was obvious where Bella got her good looks from.

"I can't take this anymore!" She yelled, starting an argument that they had repeated hundreds of times. "I know it's my 'job' as your only child, but I have made it obvious tons of times that I don't want to do it."

Chief Aren hadn't moved from his position at all while she said this. In fact, it looked like his smirk had turned into a full blown smile. This set her completely off, letting loose everything that she had corked inside of her.

"I hate this place! I hate our traditions! I hate the tribe! I hate you!" She screamed, letting her emotions control what she said. "I don't want to be here anymore. This place is terrible. I don't care what you think, I am leaving."

Finally done getting everything off of her chest, she panted in order to regain her breath. Her father still just sat there with the smile on his face, his eyes dark as deep wells staring right at her.

"Then leave." He said, startling her with his assertiveness. "The only thing keeping you here is yourself. You have been free to go since the day you became an adult."

Taking this all in a stunned surprise, all she could do was stand there with her mouth agape idiotically.

"Just remember while you are on your travels, that you are free to come back at any time. You will always have a home here." Aren stated, never releasing her from his gaze.

Not knowing what to say, she turned away, and shuffled towards their home without a word. After quickly packing up, making sure to grab the pendant that her mother, Lithi, had made for Bella while she was pregnant, she started to head out. Looking back towards the stump she now saw her father standing next to it, with his arms crossed around his bare chest, and his eyes shining in the sunset at her. She heard loud whispers coming from one of the elders and their grandchild.

"Is she leaving?" Whispered the child.

"Yes she is. It took her long enough. When the last chief did the same thing to her father, it was only days before he couldn't take it any longer. Unlike her though, he snuck out without a word, not knowing it was the previous chief's plan all along."

Now Bella wanted to cry. She got all angry from what he was doing, but all along he was trying to get her to leave as he once did. She felt bad for yelling at him, saying all of those things she didn't really mean. She wanted to go back and say sorry and take back all the things she said.

Taking one last look at her father had brought tears to her eyes. He stood there, resting his hand on a tree where the stump once was. Shining in the last rays of sunlight were purple blossoms that grew off of the newly formed tree. Seeing a smile still on her father's face, Bella knew she didn't have to say anything to him, because with the smile glinted the trails of tears that had fallen from his eyes.

Overwhelmed with a different emotion from before, Belladonna allowed a smile not unlike her father's come across her face. She didn't care if the whole tribe could see her crying. In fact, now that they were all looking at her, she did have something to say. Taking a deep breath, she got ready to let it out.

"I'll be back! I swear it!"

And with that, she took her first step out into the world on her own.

--------------------

There it was! Bella could already see the shadow of the pyramid from in front of the setting sun. It was so big! Not only the black pyramid, but also the city. She was already beginning to become amazed with it all when she noticed that people were started to pile into the city gates.

Nearing the crowd, Bella overheard that the gates were going to be closing soon for the night. Not wanting to be stuck outside the city, Bella hurried herself, pushing through the people in order to get in. It was an odd feeling, rubbing up against people she had no knowledge of, getting into their personal space as if it were normal. She wasn't used to being so physically close to people. She had heard that the city folk flocked like sheep, but she wasn't aware on how literal that saying was.

Finally getting past the gate, the first thing she noticed from inside of the walls were all of the stalls selling food. Bella realized at this point that she did not have any money. Not only that, but she had been surviving on the few scraps she could scrounge up in the grassy wilderness, now that she was within the city, there was no way she was going to get food.

Going from stall to stall, she tried to see if there were any way she could get any of their products. Time after time, she either got rejected or ignored, it was really irritating. She knew she wasn't a very good people person, but that didn't mean that everyone had to be rude to her. She especially hated some of the looks people gave her, as if they were looking down on her. They didn't know who she was. They didn't know what she had gone through. What gives them the right to judge her?

Fed up with it all, Bella slipped into an alleyway and curled up in a corner. She sat there, listening to her stomach sing its song of anguish, while thinking of ways for her to survive in this new environment. She was on the brink of slumber, when a quiet noise brought her back into awareness. She wasn't sure what it was, but she could feel the hostility in the air. Holding still, she waited, concentrating on the earth and plant-life, trying to get a response.

But nothing would move for her. There were no plants around her and the pavement beneath her feet was so ground and compact that there was no way that she was going to be able control it. Beginning to panic, Bella could hear the gasping of breath all around her. She knew she was surrounded, but there was nothing she could do, she was completely defenseless in this situation. She felt helpless, stupid and afraid. She hated herself for falling back on her father's teachings in always being prepared.

"Hey little lady. Are you alone?" Asked an unseen man. She could hear the enjoyment in his voice. Bella was ashamed of herself, how did she get herself in this predicament?

Father....

Suddenly there was shuffling and then there was four of them, arranged around her in such a way that there was no way out. She looked up with hatred filling her eyes. Seeing this, one of the other men started to giggle to himself, probably in anticipation on what they were about to do. They started getting closer and closer, until she could smell the musk coming off of them.

Something changed, wasn't there four of them? The one off to the right was gone, but the others kept on getting closer, not even noticing. Where did he go? Then there were only two. The remaining two finally began to suspect something, looking at each other in confusion. Watching them both now, she saw one of them blur and them vanish with a gust of wind, leaving only the man who first spoke to her. Now it was his turn to panic, he looked down at the girl, with fear in his eyes.

"W-w-w-what did you d-d... AAHHH!" Was all he was able to say before he was lifted into the air with an invisible force.

"You are lucky I came by when I did, princess." Said a low, husky voice. Then a cloaked figure stepped out of the shadows with a faint purple glow coming from within his hood.

Princess? What did he mean by that? "W-who are you?" Bella stammered, getting the nerve to speak.

"I am Mana-kin, son of Deda-kin, who is son of Yima-kin, who is son of Erga-kin. Err... Sorry, you probably don't understand." He stopped himself. "The fact is, I am the descendant of the great and mighty Luva-kin!" He announced with pride.

Luva-kin? He acts like I am suppose to know who that is. I don't want to offend him after saving me... But I want to know!

"I-I'm afraid I don't know who this Luva-kin you speak of is..." She said weakly.

The man gasped and took a step back in surprise. Composing himself once more, the man brushed back his hood, revealing his face. Bella's heart skipped a beat. He was a handsome man, especially for a Renaari. He had long, shiny black hair that fell down the back of his head in a single ponytail, and small bumps that protruded just below his hairline. His purple eyes glittered in the moonlight, enhancing his pointed nose with its dull luminescence. Even though the skin on his face was a light grey, his lips were of a darker shade. He was altogether an exotic sight to behold for a sheltered girl like Belladonna.

"The almighty Luva-kin was the one who brought the Dren-kin back from non-existence!"

"Dren-kin?"

"You really don't know anything do you, princess?" The man shifted around inside of his cloak, and pulled out a gloved hand. Within it was a strange clay-like object that was the general shape of a person

At first it only looked like a toy, and then it started moving on its own. It had a single eye in the middle of its forehead that glowed a faint purple. It moved its right arm so that it crossed its chest and then made a little bow in the palm of Mana-kin's hand.

"DK07 model e.15 ready. How may I be of service, master?"

It was a cute little thing, Bella couldn't help but stare in awe at it. She had never seen nor heard of such a thing. And yet it was right there, in front of her. She was amazed.

"This is a Dren-kin, I made it myself." He smiled at his accomplishment. It was strange how he acted like that little thing was a much bigger deal than the feat he had performed only a few moments ago. Bella couldn't understand why he acted the way he did, but then again, there was a lot that she still needed to learn.

"Although this one is rather small, it is able to draw any image it has seen, or location it has been to. Here, watch this." He set the thing on the ground, placing a blank piece of parchment in front of it. "Draw a map of Tempus." The Renaari commanded.

It jerked its arm from its chest and started scribbling on the paper with a strange black liquid. In the beginning it only looked like it was drawing random lines and shapes, but soon at all came together into a surface map of the city. It even wrote the names of places and streets. Bella just had to scoot closer and observe its actions with wonder. As she was leaning down to get a closer look at the map, her necklace decided to take this chance to slip out of her chest. It caught the attention of the young man as it reflected the light of the two moons.

Getting uncomfortable in the silence, Bella looked up towards Mana-kin and saw him gazing right where her breasts were.

"What are you looking at!?!" She shouted at him accusingly while putting her hand over her chest.

"Tha-that stone! Where did you get that??"

--------------------

It had been nearly half of a year since that day she first met Mana-kin. They had been travelling together from that point on, because the stone on Bella's necklace was exactly what Mana was looking for.

As it turned out, it was a rare type of gem that was called a 'heartstone'. Heartstones were the most important material component in the making of a Dren-kin, being the equivalent of a heart and soul to them. Unknown to Bella at the time, the stone around her neck was of the purest, most powerful variety, that until that point was only seen in the original Dren-kin found in the Mentamata.

So because of how Mana had quite possibly saved her life, and due to the fact that Bella was infatuated with the man, she could do nothing but accept his request to assist him in looking for the source of her heartstone. With the stories she was told as a child as the only clues to the source's whereabouts, the two wandered aimlessly throughout the Great Plains in search of a 'dark crevice' that was said to be the location that Bella's mother had found the stone.

Bella enjoyed travelling with the young Renaari. He was a composed gentleman, who was both kind and respectful. And even though they had been searching for such a long time, Mana showed no sign of impatience at all, in fact it looked like he was enjoying travelling with her as well, which only made her more happy to be in his company. But she knew that as soon as they found the source, that he would most likely have to leave her. She didn't want that to happen! But she also knew that she couldn't lie to him or trick him into staying with her longer. Bella didn't want to disappoint Mana at all.

Then one day, they found it! Well... It had to be it, because there was no way that another chasm that fit the same description could exist within the Great Plains. Bella was both excited and sad. Excited that they had finally found what they were looking for and sad that were probably going to part ways soon. Bella liked the man. Whenever she felt lonely or sad, he was there to cheer her up, whenever she got frustrated about their search and was about to reach the point of giving up, he was there to calm her down and reassure her. Even though they had only been together for a short amount of time, she didn't know what she would do without him.

So combining their abilities together, they climbed down the crevice, Mana-kin in front with one of his ever-burning lanterns lighting the way. They finally reached the bottom when the sky was a pin of light in the darkness above. The place was frightening, pitch black beyond the glow of the lantern and cramped to the point that only one person could fit shoulder-wise. But with Mana there, Bella didn't feel afraid at all.

Following the narrow path at the bottom of the crevice, they both continued on in silence, looking for anything at all that could resemble the source. Going on for the whole day, Bella was just about to ask Mana if it would be okay if they stopped for the day when a tall silhouette appeared before them.

"My, my..." Spoke a female voice. "I have been watching you for a while now, but I never expected you to get this far." She giggled as the sound of footsteps echoed in front of them. The shadow formed into a light haired, dark skinned beauty of a woman. The woman's eyes flashed red as she looked towards the two of them.

"W-who are you?" Mana gathered the courage to say.

"Why should I tell you? The both of you won't live long enough for it to matter." With that a heavy pressure began to form around them.

Was this the woman's power? How strong is she??? Why is she doing this to us?

"I have come for that!" As if answering Bella's unasked question, the woman pointed at the necklace. "My little sister has been in such a bad mood lately~ And that pretty thing around your neck looks like the perfect thing to lift her spirit." She said cheerfully.

"No! I won't let you have it! This was my mother's precious gift to me..."

The woman started to laugh maniacally. "Well then, I will just have to take it from you." She made a large grin, showing all of her teeth. Suddenly her body started to become shrouded in darkness.

"Get back Bella! It seems like this person is exceptionally dangerous."

Doing as she was told, Bella watched the two go at each other. She quickly lost sight of them as the darkness surrounded the both of them. She could still hear the sounds of battle, however she had no clue what was going on. Getting more and more worried by the second, she decided to go back into the fray and see if she could be of some assistance some how.

Taking only a few steps into the darkness, she heard a loud burst and then saw movement from within the darkness. (Blink) Suddenly, Bella saw Mana, Stumbling backwards into the light, his eyes full of surprise. (Blink) He took another step back, his hands in front of his chest, as if they were holding something. (Blink) Mana made one more step backwards and fell into Bella's arms, putting all of his weight against her.

"Haha! I finally got you!" Said the woman.

Looking down, Bella saw a dark shaft jutting out of where his heart was. No.... No no no... Blood poured out of the hole, a never ending waterfall of life essence.

"I'm sorry... It seems that I am no match for her... Please... Princess... You must get out of here.." He struggled to say.

"No... I can't leave you here like this.. Please don't leave me!" She cried, tears streaming down her face. "I love you..."

Mana looked up at her and grinned. Even with a river of blood falling from the edge of his mouth, he still was a handsome man. "I love you too, Belladonna..." Were the last words that escaped his lips before the breath of life left him.

"No!!!!!" Screamed Bella.

"Hahaha! What a pitiful little scene." Scoffed the woman as the darkness began to dissipate. "I absolutely love tragedy."

Bella looked at the woman in the darkness with hatred filling her entire being.

"Ah~ I must have more! So beautiful! Hehehe." The woman began to hug herself and whisper incoherently. "Here little girl~ I have a present for you in exchange for this perfect disaster you have shown me." She smiled once more pointing her finger at Bella.

A dark beam shot out of it and hit Bella in the middle of her chest. All of sudden she couldn't breath and she could feel the beat of her heart start to go faint. Everything started to go black.

"What have you done to me....?" She gasped with her last bit of air. Then her heart stopped beating altogether.

"Now, little girl. I'll take that necklace from you, in return you will spend eternity with this man's death on your conscience. How does that sound?" She made another laugh and then stepped forward towards Bella. Looking up towards the dark-skinned woman, a single teardrop felt the effects of gravity and fell off of her face, directly onto the pendant.

Then there was a flash of light, and everything in front of Bella started to shine as if on fire. In fact... It was Mana! Engulfing his entire body was a purple flame, lighting everything around them with a purple glow. On her neck, Bella's necklace started to glow as well, mimicking the color of Mana's body.

"What's this?" Said the woman.

Mana's body started to fade away into purple energy that then flowed towards the stone around Bella's neck. Gathering all of the energy, the stone lifted of its own accord, breaking away from the leather that held it in place. Stunned to silence, both the woman and Bella watched the stone float in the air between them. Purple swirls of energy began to lash out from the gem, shaving off pieces of earth from the sides of the crevice. The dirt and rock it broke off began to draw in around the stone, forming into a ball-like mass, spinning with the energy. As more and more was gathered, the mass began to form appendages. Seconds passed as more detail was carved into the earthen figure. Until soon enough, it took the shape of a person.

The thing lifted its hands in front of it, watching itself flex its fingers. With its back towards Bella, she couldn't see the defining features that were in the front, but she had the strangest feeling of familiarity while looking at its set of shoulders. The woman, on the other hand, recognized it right away, staring at the form of dirt in rock, with a face showing only disbelief. The figure continued looking over itself, patting itself in random spots as if it was making sure everything was in the right place.

"Strange..." The word came from the figure of earth, giving another clue to Bella as what had happened.

Can it be? She stepped around the circular crater that was now in the bottom of the crevice, in order to get a better look at the stone creature in front of her. Seeing its face, everything started to click in place.

"It seems I have become a Dren-kin." It said matter of factly.

"Mana-kin?" Asked the girl wishfully.

"Yes, it is I, princess. I know how you feel right now, but I believe we have a more pressing matter on our hands." He looked back up towards the tall woman.

"B-but, I killed you!" She stammered. She looked at Mana with fear in her eyes and took a step back.

"Apparently, I am more difficult to kill than even I originally thought." He went into a fighting stance, still getting used to his new body.

From what Bella could tell, it looked like Mana wasn't able to use the abilities he had in his original body. So not wanting to leave his side this time, she stood next to him, grinding her feet into the ground.

But the woman wasn't going to have any of it. After being presented with a new and unknown situation, she was no longer willing to take any chances. Also seeing that she wouldn't be able to get the pendant any longer, she really had no reason to fight the two anymore. She made a disgusting face with her frustration and swiped her hand in the air, leaving a black slash in its place.

"Gggrrrrrrr" The woman growled to herself. "At least I did one thing right" She looked to Bella with the hint of a smirk. "Good luck in trying to get back to the way you were little girl. I'll be watching you~" And then the woman jumped through her newly created portal, leaving Mana and Bella on their own once more.

--------------------

In the end, they didn't find what they were looking for. If Bella had thought about it for any great amount of time, she would have known that the clues her mother had left behind were too few and too vague to be of any use. They could have wandered the Great Plains all of their lives and never know for certain if they found the right place, and if they did find it, they might not even find anything there.

Disheartened, they climbed out of the chasm, quickly losing faith in their quest. It didn't take long for Mana to figure out what the woman had done to Belladonna. He was just as smart in his new form as he was before. He knew right away that her condition could be fixed, however difficult it would be. His own body, on the other hand, was another matter entirely.

Telling all of this to Bella, she got upset, feeling it was her fault that this had happened to them, as she was the one who had lead him to the crevice. After consoling her, Mana-kin realized how close they had become in the short amount of time they were together and knew he couldn't bear to be separated from the girl. The feelings from before did not change at all even with both of their bodies being the way they were.

Bella couldn't face her people after being tainted, so Mana was the one who sought out her father and told him what had happened. Trusting in the strange stone man, Aren chose a new heir to replace her. With one of Bella's many cousins established as the next chief, Mana promised Aren and the tribal elders that he would bring Bella back after returning her body to normal. And with that, Belladonna and Mana-kin set off on a new quest, searching for the woman with the dark skin and the light hair.

Companion: Mana-kin the Dren-kin

Born as a Renaari, Mana had developed quickly into adult-hood, as was the way for his people. He was a prodigy among his kind, possessing strong mental abilities and being able to develop several new types of Dren-kin. When he became an adult, roughly around 7 years of age, Mana-kin started to get restless. He had so many ideas on new types of Dren-kin that could help his people, but he didn't have the resources to produce them. In order to make them, he needed more power, and that power could only come from a clear and pure Heartstone that could not be found in the country of Nizzre. So he left his home. Two years, and hundreds of miles later, he stumbled upon a scene involving a little Elok girl and a group of men in a dark alley. Quickly assessing the situation, he dispatched the unruly fellows. Deducing from the girl's aura, Mana was able to figure out that she was of a high class within her society ,which is why he calls her princess. Seeing that she was in possession of a heartstone of high quality, he became determined to find its source.

Ability: Fluid Body (Approved by Luthe and Gunslinger)

In his new body, Mana-kin can no longer do the things he once could. However, through sheer willpower, and the remnants of his past mental capabilities, Mana is able to manipulate his earthen body at will. Whether it be a large stone ball, or a four-legged creature, Mana-kin can take any shape he desired.

I read this a few days ago, and hadn't posted until now.

I like the concepts that you're working with, and your particular take on animation magics. Dren-kin are a fun idea, and in some way or another, I hope that more people will see you using Mana-kin and other Dren-kin, and try their hand at the same idea. Some people get very focused and stuck on a single magic meta-theory, and never reach out to explore others. Not all casting of spells and weaving of arcane energy needs to be as simple as a Final Fantasy fireball or a World of Warcraft heal spell.

I would recommend that more members and staff take a look at this profile just for a familiarity the concept of Dren-kin, and use it as inspiration to help come up with their own or explore new magic styles.

Mythwood is a new forum, and a great place to test out new theories. Don't be limited by the feigned strictness of the spell descriptions. There's much more that can be done with them, and with the concepts of the magic and abilities in general, than most ever understand.

The profile was fairly easy to reach. I noticed no exceptional errors, there. I've moved it to the Complete section.
