Rehabilitation of Paranal Radar Station posted Wednesday, 13 March 2013 Paranal air station clearing starts. Rehabilitation of Paranal Radar Station, which is adjacent to the former mining camp of the defunct San Mauricio Gold Mines Co has started, our local correspondent said. Platoon team leader Lt Elmer Barcinas, under instruction from his superior officer, Lt Col Augusto Vinzons- Gaite, PAF Tactical Operations Group-5 based in Legaspi city, relayed the message to JP municipal council saying that some of the construction and forest-clearing paving heavy equipment from Philippine Air Force construction and engineering equipment have arrived. Meantime, our correspondent was given some briefing by one of the Sanggunian Bayan members, who personally spoke with Lt Barcinas. Typically composed of two to four sections or squads and with less than 30 soldiers, this SB member said: “Si Lt Barcinas ay mahaba na ang leeg sa paghihintay ng mga sundalong darating dito sa Paranal Radar Station, kasi sa ngayon skeleton crew lang sila sa bundok at sandamukal ang trabaho ang kanilang hinaharap.” ( Lt Barcinas has been waiting for quite awhile for the rest of the airmen/soldiers to arrive at Paranal Radar Station to help out. Small and barely skeleton crew facing lots of jobs on the mountain, this team is simply overwhelmed.) http://mambulaoansworldwidebuzz.blogspot.com/2013/03/latebreakers-larap-airport-to-be.html |

![]() At Paranal RADAR Station http://www.evemarries.me/galleries/barts-cranny/attachment/processed22/ Quoted from http://silverskywings.com/?tag=super-typhoon-haiyan-phils-storm Super Typhoon Haiyan 8 NOVEMBER, 2013 REALITY NO COMMENTS I was born in Bicol Region in the Phils. Typhoon will always hit that Western side of the Philippines first – Pacific Ocean before it goes east or north to China sea. When I was a little boy, my family was always evacuated by Phil Air Force personnel from small town by the beach to Paranal Air Base, located at top of the mountain, in a fully secured concrete buildings. Just to give you an idea, Paranal Air Station during the 70′s was one of the listening post of the AFP maintained by Phil Air Force (during Vietnam War & Marcos Era) with presence of US military. My late father was in Phil Air Force working with electronics & radar stations. And I was fascinated by those huge Parabolic Antennae, like you are listening to alien beings. main reason I loved sci-fi. Those images got stuck to my mind till now. How I missed my father. Life must go on for us the living. Let’s go back to 2013, there is a super storm coming, one recorded the strongest in 3 decades so far. Be safe Philippines. ![]() Quoted from The Place of my Childhood Memories I grew up in a place called Radar by many because of the radar dome dominating the place. It is actually a camp where my father worked. It was an air force base. I have golden memories of climbing the structures inside the dome and I thought the dome will open in half and fire to the flying fighter planes that I imagined in my mind. My younger brothers and sisters were playing near it and when the camp closed we are some of the kids who collect the pieces of irons and we sell them to the garbage buyers. I remember riding a helicopter when I was two years old and it was one of the best rides ever. My father is a soldier and my siblings and I often played in the camp area picking fruits from trees there and watching helicopters and trucks coming every once in a while. The place was actually named Paranal Air Station in honor of some soldier whose surname was Paranal. I love the place where there are lots of pine trees and fruit trees and creeks for it was located in a high mountainous area. One of these days I will be coming back there and pay a visit to the gardens which have gone wild now. http://zephyrity.wordpress.com/the-place-of-my-childhood-memories/ Rough Road to Paranal/Olecram http://ph.geoview.info/rough_road_to_paranalolecram,45297140p Edited by Flipzi, Sun Jun 1, 2014 6:17 am.
