Duterte pins medals on 63 wounded soldiers in CDO military hospital

Inquirer Mindanao / 07:27 PM June 03, 2017

President Rodrigo Duterte visited on Saturday soldiers wounded during the Marawi City clashes at the military hospital here.

Duterte, who arrived at 6:20 p.m., pinned medals on the 63 wounded soldiers and gave each of them P100,000 and a Samsung J1 smartphone so they could call up his office for assistance.

He also handed each of them a .45-caliber pistol, saying: “Don’t let the enemy take this from you. Leave a single bullet in the chamber.”

Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, spokesperson of the 4th Infantry Division, said the wounded personnel were brought to the camp hospital for treatment and came from various units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He said the wounded soldiers were airlifted from Marawi.

“They began arriving on May 24th until June 2nd,” he added.

Martinez said the soldiers at the military hospital were being treated for minor wounds caused by gunshots and shrapnel. –Jigger Jerusalem /atm

Total of 89 teros killed

Composed of 42 body counts and 47 confirmed snipers killed as of May 30

Marawi clearing operations: 89 terrorist killed, 690 civilians rescued

ACS of CMO G7 May 30, 2017

The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ focus continues on safely clearing Marawi of terrorist elements that are still holding up within pockets of the city. The priority of ongoing military action is likewise directed at helping residents who are trapped in the city’s interiors and the recovery of civilians in the hands of the terrorists.

The integration of Joint Operations capabilities and Philippine National Police support significantly degraded the local terrorist group’s (LTG) fighting potentials and its network of supporters and armed members is reduced. The government troops disrupted the LTG’s plan to establish terror cells in Central Mindanao particularly on the grand plan to burn down and bastardize the entire city of Marawi.

Focused military operations are judiciously undertaken to prevent collateral damage at specific targets of resistance to hasten the clearing of Marawi City of terrorist elements.

As of this update, a total of 89 terrorists were killed (42 body counts and 47 confirmed snipers killed). Government forces suffered 24 killed-in-action (AFP-21, PNP-3) and 81 wounded-in-action (AFP-63, PNP-18).

The government troops have rescued and assisted 960 trapped civilian residents since the start of the operations.

Troops on the ground have recovered 91 assorted high-powered firearms, shabu paraphernalia, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and various war materials.

The ongoing operations manifest difficulty among the operating troops due to highly urbanized area with topographically complexity where man-made construction is a dominant feature.

To destroy the remaining LTGs, surgical airstrikes is recommended to continue due to the current battleground where the enemy made their stronghold is complex and dynamic interaction and relationships between its components of terrain, and the population and supporting infrastructure,

“Our forces are working together to hasten the restoration of the rule of law and Marawi’s return to normalcy. We ensure the primacy of Human Rights, Rule of Law and International Humanitarian Law in all conduct of our operations,” said Brig. Gen. Rolly Bautista, Commander of Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division.

“We count on everyone to unite as one nation and do their patriotic duty for the stability in the Marawi City,” BGen. Bautista said.

ISIS/MAUTE HAS LOST THIS FIGHT ONCE AGAIN

As per news reports, 120 from the ISIS/Maute side have been killed. around 50 have been killed by govt snipers.

Many have surrendered and some have mixed with evacuees already to evade arrest or escape death from pursuing govt troopers. One was almost captured when he, together with his wife and kids, tried to join evacuees and get food from an evacuation center in Iligan City.

At that time the poster showing the photos and names of Maute Group memebrs have not been given to the officials there yet. When the posters have arrived, this guy and his wife and kids suddenly left the scene before the gov't forces could get to them. See video.

Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i_D-EMfBfo

As for ISIS/Maute's lost of the battle, they miscalculated the people there.

They failed to get enough support from the community, with MILF and locals even stood up to them and shot it out with them, when ISIS/Maute tried to blow up a bridge there.

Many expressed anger towards ISIS/Maute for ruining their lives, their business and their peaceful community.

It is just a matter of time now before the leaders of ISIS/Maute are captured or killed.

This is a blessing in disguise for the nation.

THESE HAVE BEEN REALIZED:

1. Isnilon Hapilon and Maute are now cornered. This gives the gov't a great opportunity to neutralize them.

2. Residents, vast majority of them including Muslims, hate ISIS.

3. Muslim-dominated areas have realized that the presence of ISIS or any group connected to them will only bring destruction and burden to their own community.

4. The military and govt have realized more the importance of modern equipment, the snipers, the attack aircrafts, the guided munitions, better tanks, and perhaps man-portable missiles like the Spike missile.

Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpO-VpNxGRY

In fact, President Duterte has expressed his intention to buy guided munitions, sniper rifles and attack helicopters and even ships and submarines from Russia.

More defense items are coming in including the Spike missile-armed Attack boats of the Navy, the 2 Anti-submarine helicopters of the Navy that are armed with Spike NLOS too.

The President has also stated that the gov't will buy 12 more FA-50PH. This type of Light Combat Aircraft (also called LIFT) has been proven effective in hitting the enemy hard.

In summary, the ISIS and its connections have lost mass support and that the military is now arming up to meet its 'minimum credible defense' target.

ISIS/MAUTE DELIBERATELY KILLING CIVILIANS INCLUDING MUSLIMS

Yesterday, June 3, a Maute sniper shot dead a civilian, a military official said.

Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, said the fatality was approaching soldiers to seek help when he was shot dead by a terrorist sniper.

Some 20 civilians have been killed by Maute bandits since the gunmen attacked Marawi last May 23.

Brig. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista, commander of the Joint Task Force ZamPelan, condemned the Maute snipers for shooting civilians.

Bautista said the act of the terrorists is proof of their blatant disregard for the life of innocent people.

“They attacked the city and put the lives of everyone in Marawi in grave danger including women, children and the elderly. It is the people of Marawi who suffered because of their evil un-Islamic deeds,” Bautista said.

He called on the people of Marawi to stand united against terrorism.

“The fight against terrorism is not the sole duty of the security sector but the responsibility of everyone,” Bautista added.

Galvez said there are 1,236 civilians trapped in the city.

The military official said the rescued civilians endured hunger, thirst and sleepless nights.

According to the military, one of the victims said they could not go out from where they hid as the terrorists might see and kill them.

“They killed civilians, even their fellow Maranaws who cannot recite the prayer or even the Shahada, with even one wrong word. Do they expect someone to recite the prayer while they poked guns at you?” the soldiers quoted some of the civilians as saying.

The terrorist snipers have no heart, they kill civilians who just want to live,” the rescued victims told the soldiers.

Galvez said the troops are committed to exert all efforts to rescue those civilians still trapped in Marawi.

He said military units were conducting clearing operations street by street and enter buildings and rooms to rescue residents.

The military said 120 terrorists have so far been killed, with 42 bodies recovered and the rest of the Maute fatalities confirmed by eyewitnesses.

The AFP in another report said that around 50 ISIS teros have been killed by gov't snipers.

Glavez said that many terrorists have recently surrendered and turned over to soldiers 98 high-powered firearms.

The military officials also said government forces suffered 38 killed in action and scores wounded in the continuing efforts to remove the terrorists from Marawi.

‘If they knew about Christians, all would be executed’: Muslim saves dozens from ISIS in Philippines

RT

Fierce fighting between government forces and jihadist militants has spread to the streets of the southern island city of Marawi in the Philippines. Amid the ongoing offensive, locals of various religions have been helping each other survive and flee for their lives.
More than 160 people, nearly 50 children among them, were rescued from Marawi on Saturday, the army said. The city has become a key hot spot in the ongoing crackdown on terrorists, affiliated with Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in the Western Pacific nation.

At least 20 civilians and 38 military died on Saturday, Reuters reported, citing officials, who added that some 120 terrorists had been killed.

With parts of the Philippines now full-blown war zones, civilians have found themselves under threat of being caught in the crossfire. Mass evacuations are under way in battle zones such as Marawi, RT's Charlotte Dubenskij says, reporting from the city.

On Saturday, following an impromptu ceasefire to let civilians evacuate, fighter jets dropped bombs on the city center.

"We are afraid, sometimes helicopters fire at us, and the jihadists might kill us too," a local man told RT.

Among those who managed to escape this week is an Islamic writer and former politician, Noor Lucman. The Muslim man, who studied in Saudi Arabia with Osama bin Laden, told RT's Charlotte Dubenskij how he managed to cheat terrorists knocking at his door and save dozens of Christians.

There were some Christian workers doing repair work in the area a day before the fighting unfolded, he said. These people "couldn't leave the city, so I had to take responsibility in protecting them," he told reporters of their ordeal.

"The following days, other Christian workers took refuge in my house. There were about 64 of them in my hands and I was very determined that nothing happens to them," the man said, adding that the people he sheltered would only be revealed to terrorists "over [his] dead body."

"When ISIS came, they recognized me and they showed respect by just leaving when I told them to leave," he went on to say. "They didn't know I was hiding Christians. If they knew that there were Christians in my house, they would all be beheaded and executed."

As clashes between the military and the jihadists intensified in Marawi, with the army having admitted the fight is far harder than they've expected, Lucman "took an initiative to get the Christians out."

When heard that the military "planned to bomb the whole city if ISIS did not accede to the demands of the government," and also considering that he was running out of food, the Muslim man resolved to fleeing with the people at his mercy.

"I told myself that if I don't take these people out of the house, they would die of hunger, so we might just try and break through, no matter what. There were a lot of snipers along the way, and we had to hope against hope they would not ask those people if they were Christians or Muslims," Lucman said, explaining that the militants "ask you to recite a Muslim reading, and if you don't know it, they kill you."

More than 2,000 civilians remain trapped in the southern Philippines city, besieged by some 250 Islamist militants, according to Reuters. There have been reports of an imminent military assault in the region, where Christians have been killed and taken hostage by the militants. The jihadist fighters represent a mix of local Islamist militants and those from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Chechnya and Morocco, who joined the cause under the Islamic State banner, officials say.

Duterte: Maute group protectors, financiers to be arrested soon

Published June 4, 2017 11:45am

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday night said drug personalities providing funds and protection to the Maute group will be arrested soon.

"In the days ahead we will arrest all of them. Number one 'yung nag-produce ng shabu, nagbigay ng pera sa terorista, they will all be arrested, whether politicians or not," Duterte said during his visit in Cagayan de Oro City.

"We will charge you accordingly. We will detain you more than 'yung six days-six days. There will be at once an inquest and if there is a probable cause, I would like them to be detained forever," he added.

Duterte did not provide names, but said there are several drug personalities in Marawi City, where more than 200 Maute group members are believed to be still holed up more than a week after the ISIS-inspired group's attack last May 23.

"Marami 'yan dito sa Marawi, kalakasan. Kaya nga ang supply ng shabu dito sa Cagayan [de Oro] hindi maubus-ubos eh," the President added.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said at a press conference on Monday that the Maute group, drug lords and politicians involved in illegal drugs are protecting each other.

Dela Rosa said that even before he assumed as PNP chief, he received information that drug lords from Metro Manila, Luzon and the Visayas attended a "drug summit" with the Maute group and narcopoliticians.

On Wednesday, Dela Rosa said the PNP will take advantage of Duterte's declaration of martial law in Mindanao to address the problem of narcopolitics in the southern region.
