Since Near is starting over fresh we are going to be taking ideas as to the universe that NEAR will be set in. Originally we where set in a post-apocolyptic galaxy where the numerous races where starting a new.

However, since NEAR is being re-born We want your input as to the new universe we are trying to create... How would you envision the Galaxy in NEAR?

the current acceptable limit to nations regarding extra-galactic origins is one may be located in Dark-space provided they are still on the map.
What I meant was a wormhole-esque event transporting the entire system from some random galaxy to somewhere in this one, rather than originating from dark space. Is that acceptable?
While it's acceptability is to be determined by Hobb, I do feel like I need to ask the important question of "Why?" - what actual difference would there by between your species evolving and then forming a civilization in this galaxy as opposed to arriving from another galaxy?

It does matter a lot. Being from a different galaxy offers many role playing opportunities, or just sounds plain awesome. As long as it doesn't make any nation supremely powerful, I feel things like this should be allowed IC.

How would an entire system be moved from one galaxy to another and still maintain proper orbit or not be altered in some way? I'm just curious mind you. Being Extra-Galactic in terms of the scale your talking about seems hard to explain without great detail, not that I wouldn't mind seeing such a story. :)

Really I want NEAR to be a fun experience for all, that also has room to grow. We have a lot of wiggle room in terms of hammering out acceptability of certain feature of nations. We also lack the stability of having a standard unified tech in which to base feasibility of certain situations. So really its going to come down to whether or not we as a community would allow such an adventureous begining.

Although this does give me some idea's on how such things can be judged upon with a fair an even balance.

- Think on this if you will. Since we have the ability to have multiple types of tech within NEAR how does one categorize the strength of a particular tech? I was thinking of a Comparison chart of sorts which ranks tech types based on a community guided scale. I'm not sure what a model of this system would look like but it would allow others to compare strengths and weaknesses against other types of tech.... again... Just an idea. If you guys like it I'll make a thread on the Reguations Forum for it to be discussed.

The short version is that Sertek was originally interesting to my nation for colonisation because of pre-existing infrastructure. This pre-existing infrastructure was from an a different saurai faction with an estimated age of anywhere up to 20ka, local time. . Suffice it to say that technology was of a significantly higher standard. A device is found and investigated. Said investigation accidentally triggers the device, which in turns manifests some rather, uh, extreme anomalies.
For the long story you'll have to wait & read my introductory post. ^^

And no: the orbits are not exactly uneffected. I'm still not sure if the system's galactic orbital velocity should be counter-rotational or not....it would be awesome but also very annoying.

Interesting... Question I am thinking of is who built that device?

ICly: I haven't got a clue.
OOCly: Those would be the experimental saurai scientists of a different faction during the neo-chronite wars (something my nation literally has no knowledge of ever occurring). The 44th never developed past the technology levels seen at the beginning of the saurai civil war and thus these scientists were considerably more advanced.
The device was developed on Ar'Tienval (a research world) and built either there or on Anklav (a former research/fortress world). It is presumed that this device was originally built on Anklav (which was close by before the incident), as similar devices on a smaller scale have surfaced incidentally there. The production of these devices ceased at the latest after the banning of higgs-field manipulation devices at the end of the first neo-chronite war, but they may have been deemed it too dangerous to be allowed to be used, and therefore banned, before that. It is believed virtually all remaining devices have been sabotaged and/or are vaulted in Ar'EnliƧ.

Wandering Argonians

I was hoping to run with my previous concept of the Argonian Empire being an ancient, jaded one well past it's prime and height of power, fractured into three or four bickering sub-factions.

I can work with just about anything, though. Will still be keeping the 40K-ish roots as well.

I see no reason why you couldn't :)

For the record: have the background things been settled (or at least sufficiently so for the starter threads)? If so please summarise for easy future reference.
