Since Near is starting over fresh we are going to be taking ideas as to the universe that NEAR will be set in. Originally we where set in a post-apocolyptic galaxy where the numerous races where starting a new.

However, since NEAR is being re-born We want your input as to the new universe we are trying to create... How would you envision the Galaxy in NEAR?

Also a question I'd love to have answered.

Was there ever an epic war? Is this 'Silver Age' set in a period before or after said war?

Does there need to be an epic war?

Surely that can happen in the RP, sometime later in the story?

undoubtely, wars will happen at some point n the RPs, but the core idea (I think) of NEAR is the rebuilding of an interstellar nation after some sort of catastrophe that completely re-aligned the status quo. I quite like the diea of a napoleonic war in space in the distant past of the galaxy....but my nation isn't exactly effected by it because it only enters the galaxy later- but still!
That being said, we need to put a defined TIME since the ending of the chaos/war/catastrophe/interstellar societal collapse, as this is important to how nations function. Particularly old ones might remember a time before the conflicts, while younger ones may not have more than tangential knowledge at all.

Why does there have to be a chaos/war/catastrophe in the past? Shouldn't we save that for RPing in the future?

There doesn't HAVE to be, but that's the backdrop of the first iteration of NEAR. Given the propensity of people in general to have wars and the culture-defining pivotal points wars (cold or not) have on history it's a "natural" thing to fall back on instead of hacing a unierse where we all literally ARE the progenitors.
Not that there's anything wrong with that though. It's just a bit awkward from a political-RP perspective.

Yes background has been settled...

Current background is:

The galaxy has entered a period of what some are calling the Silver Age, as many ntions ranging from small planet sized governments to sprawling Empires find expansion or both economic development and territorial gains easily obtained... with proper incentives of course. However, despite the growing boon of wealth and prosperity a shadow is slowly growing within each nation are trades disputes and territorial enroachments become more and more frenquent.
