There is a tool in some photoshops to specifically darken a vessel. Well, this tutorial will teach you how to change the hue of a ship to any color in the RGB's hexadecimal range. From 0-0-0 to 255-255-255. For example, hot pink. (What kind of a deranged, crazy nutcase would paint anything hot pink, anyway? )So here's how to do it. Say I want to paint a Type XXI blue. But I don't want it to be a Type-XXI-shaped patch of blue roaming around, oh no. I want to see plenty of underneath details. Since I'm a lazy procrastinator and I hate detail work, let's make this one easy. We shall bend our photoshop software to our will. Let's begin. So here we have our XXI. I merged it for the purpose of this tutorial. BUT, for file size and crash-preventing efficiency purposes it is recommended to edit the body and other components such as conning tower, island structures and superstructures seperately in their own components! Doing so can also help you avoid layering problems without having to re-layer and delete like in the last Howto. If you look closely at the SPR file for my Essex sprite you'll see what I mean. ![]() Now it's time to use our trusty Fuzzy Select tool once again. As always, set the Threshold level to 0 as outlined in black before selecting. ![]() Now you'll need to go to a dropdown menu. Without deselecting anything go to Select and click Invert. ![]() Select the Paintbrush tool. ![]() And here's the key to our work here: Set the Opacity level to something low. In this case, 25 is the desired level I want, but in your case you might want the color to be stronger or weaker. Adjust as desired, in other words. ![]() So now the hard part's over. All you need to do now is select the desired color and paint over the sub. Since we selected the body of the sub in the first stages of this with the Fuzzy Select and Invert Select, the blackground will not be effected and there will (hopefully, if you did this right) be no weird colors near your ship. ![]() Hope this helps!
