They were two very good rides on the day from Ian and Paul - I know as I was marshaling the Cockermouth RAB for two and a half hours in the wind and sometimes rain. I think the fast boys who went off at two minute intervals at the end got the best of the morning but it was a particularly good ride of Simon Wilson for 5th place with a 50-16. Bottrill's winning ride was a minute or so faster than Stuart Dangerfield's winning ride 12 years ago which is the only other time we have used that version of the course. I actually took the train and bus up the Cockermouth Travelodge which I had booked in January and at the last minute had to go alone. It was actually cheaper than driving by using a bus pass and a rail card - ( you reading this MrH? ) would not suggest you taking a bike though! I treated myself to first class on the Pendolino to Carlisle and the high point is passing the traffic on the M6 near Scorton and leaving them for dead at 100 plus whilst enjoying a coffee and the lunch box. |

Well done to Ian, Paul and Mick (1st F - age 65-69). They were all good times on that course in such poor weather. Dave. |

Thanks Dave but as I was racing I was convinced that it wasnt going to be me that would win the National Championship. So sure that I told Mike when I walked in the room that he would have beat me by a country mile (sorry Mike). Such horrid conditions that I was convinced throughout the race that Id either pulled my wheel over or that I had a soft tyre. We must get together - Im still here for another 6 or 8 weeks (or more?). |

Thanks for the Thanks for the shout Mick! You are not the only one who is glad that Mike W did not beat you Mick!! Mike has this year been openly chasing my 69 year old NL and L VTTA Record of 58-25 Had he gone 4 seconds faster than you he would have got it. I'll be honest - the first time I wanted to know after the event was Mike's!!! He only has one more realistic possibility this year which is the 25 on Levens on the 7 September. Next year he will be a year older! At least you are not old enough to claim it yourself Mick - although I know you have already gone faster. |
