Hugh Carthy in big company

Good to see Hugh Carthy back and against the top riders in the world again - can't remember hearing much about him for a while.

In the Catalunya stage race he is right up there with the big names:

Today - as you may well have seen on Eurosport Valverde won the stage - the new Columbian Sky rider Bernal - not heard much of him myself - second and then within seconds came Quintana and Simon Yates and Hugh 9th - out of 157 finishers in the snow - thankfully they keep the roads clearer than here at home!

Hugh used to live just off the A6 north of Preston and was a regular with his Dad on Thursdays in The Priory at Garstang. Last time we had a chat was after he had ridden the BB CTC 2-up I would say about 3 years ago.

Simon and twin brother Adam - who has just had a nasty spill but seems OK - come from Bury of course so good to have some local interest at the very top of our sport. One of them held the WPRC course record - before it was softened up to use the course as last Sunday - instead of going up Birdie Brow!!
