The Merchant Mater, Geralt, sat quietly on his cushioned seat in the festival square. He took his spot in the dance area hours early and seemed very content to merely observe for the night. He sipped at his wine with measured patience making sure to have his wits about him for this evening. It promised to be an interesting one.

Meeson, the Merchant apprentice was not at the festival today, he had much work to do at home to be worried about a silly party. Or at least that was the story. Geralt held himself with his usual cheery energetic demeanor that did not seem to match his rather advanced age as he quietly watched the hours go by. The prince's plan had worked perfectly, the confusion between the reports and the fact that no one could prove anyone right or wrong had led to an all out reprimanding and verbal lashing of the entire guard for being... Well full of shit mostly. The lecture and lashings had made all the guards today much more statuesque, less willing to mingle and get a feel for the patrons and the group in general tonight. Much less likely to sniff something out.

Geralt did not see the man slip in, he did not even notice the man WAS the man until he began to whisk the princess away. He hurriedly went to work, he stood up with a bit of a wobble, his taste for the drink had betrayed him tonight, hopefully not too much. Minutes has gone by after the princess had entered the tent as Geralt slowly meandered his way over. As he was sitting in front of the tent waiting for something to happen he saw it.

The man, who hurried the princess to the tent, walking with a... He sighed, with a Mara in tow who was by far over doing any hobble he had ever seen. The must have slipped out the back of the tent. Looking up from his sigh he saw the other half of the problem. Two guards, headed dead for the tent.

Geralt held the small pendant he wore around his neck and whispered. "Sorry!" He reached a foot out and leaned into his neighbor stumbling him forward into another man who's drink ended up all over the pair and a few standing near by. The fight was on. Geralt slipped out the back of the pile into the tent to find the hand maiden staring horrified at the door. She screamed when Geralt entered and the merchant's hand shot up to cut it short.

"Please my dear, I need your help." The Merchant said, eyes pleading but soft. The girl nodded.

The guards marched through the small dispute setting confused men aside and quickly made their way to the tent. The lead put one hand on his sword and grabbed the tent flap with his other hand and threw it open.

The maid yelped with a start and covered her face as Geralt and the maid were seated at the table with a pitcher of wine and a plate of food sat between them. "My word!" Geralt started. "You'd scared the daylights out of the poor girl! Apologize immediately you brute!"

The guard stood up straight and bowed at the waist. "My deepest apologies my lord and lady! Please enjoy!"

The merchant's face went somber. "I'll get you out of here, you won't be in trouble." If the girl ended up playing the princess until the morning things could get messy. He would simply get her in her normal clothes, the princess' safety was not a handmaiden's job, she would be free of implication.

Geralt took off from the party early that night and got a good night's rest. He felt, much like someone else, that it might be one of his last.

Drake slid into Mara's room before first light and sighed to himself. He thought it would be easier this way, but it looked like there was a few issues, as was to be expected. He quietly gathered up Mara's things and slipped back into the night.
