SECTION 13.
a. Economic discrimination based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or sex is strictly prohibited.

b. Forum members participating in the regional economy shall not be denied employment, goods, or services, except for legitimate and reasonable purposes, based on any one of the following:
  • Religion
  • Sexual orientation
  • Nationality
  • Political affiliation
c. The Bank Director, the regional government, and the forum staff shall share responsibility for enforcing nondiscrimination in the regional economy. If necessary, an offended party shall have the right to sue anybody who illegally discriminates against him; and appropriate judicial relief shall be granted.

PS: No, I'm never going to stop bringing this up until something is passed. Call me an SJW or whatever--I don't care. I just want to see if this Senate thinks that this, or another, amended version is passable, which I'd argue it is.

SECTION 13.
  1. Forum members participating in the regional economy shall not be denied employment, goods, or services, except for legitimate and reasonable purposes, based on any one of the following:
    • Race
    • Ethnicity
    • Nationality
    • Sex
    • Sexual orientation
    • Religion
    • Political affiliation
  2. The Bank Director, the regional government, and the forum staff shall share responsibility for enforcing nondiscrimination in the regional economy. If necessary, an offended party shall have the right to sue anybody who illegally discriminates against him; and appropriate judicial relief shall be granted.
I'll only support this with the following being included:

  • Race
  • Nationality
  • Sex
  • Religion
  • Political Affiliation
The two left out are things that never have to be disclosed unless the person decides they want to.
To be fair, players don't have to disclose their race, nationality, sex, or religion either. By "political affiliation," I assume the Senate is referring to a player's affiliation with a regional political party.

Another ground the Senate may wish to consider is age. A number of players disclose their ages to the region when they choose to list their birthdays in their forum profiles (an optional item). In NationStates, I don't see any particularly compelling reasons for age discrimination. Whether a player is nine years old or ninety years old, it seems most reasonable to judge him based on his abilities.
I would be fine with including age while keeping the current list.

Yes. Adding age is smart. I agree

So, to summarize, here's what we have so far. (Green means yes; blue means maybe.)

The Bank Director, the regional government, and the forum staff shall share responsibility for enforcing nondiscrimination in the regional economy. If necessary, an offended party shall have the right to sue anybody who illegally discriminates against him; and appropriate judicial relief shall be granted.

Another interesting question: Should the regional code protect noncitizens from private discrimination in the regional marketplace? The Regional Economy Act mentions noncitizens: "Noncitizens, provided they register for Bank accounts and provided they comply with regional law, may be full participants in the regional economy; but no noncitizen shall serve as Bank Director" (RTL Code 9:7).

Well it should be coverage for all who use our forum not just citizens. Also I would vote against if b and h are included. In my opinion they are unnecessary.

Why should this just be for the economic market place, maybe we should make this it's own thing creating a statute for all forum users.

They are forum members; but someone could deny them employment, goods, or services because they lack citizenship. Example: "You're not a citizen, so I'm not going to hire you."

I don't see a reason. Region members should be free to criticize each other's politics, religion, etc.

The only other law where it might be reasonable to add a section requiring private nondiscrimination would be the Political Parties Act. If the government ever tried to discriminate unreasonably, either I'd veto the bill or the Justice Court would strike it down under the Bill of Rights' Fair Treatment Clause (RTL Code 2:4).

Because of the recent upheaval in Lazarus, I'm wondering whether it might be reasonable for Right to Life to ban private discrimination based on "military status or stance," referring especially to one's position as a raider, defender, independent, or pacifist/isolationist.

Let's vote over that!

To vote just post Yay or Nay. You can also say Present, or no vote.
