Record-Setting Spring Lifts Regional Spirits By: United Massachusetts This previous winter, Right to Life saw a relative lull in activity, as, for the first time in over two years, the region fell out of the Top 100 in population. The population held steady at around 150 nations, a lower-than-average population for a region like ours. However, this did not deter the hearts of Right to Life's citizens, who thereafter witnessed a marvelous increase in residents, rising to break its previous record of 169 nations, and then soaring to a record of 193, nearly breaking the two hundred nation mark. Among these were mock nations, such as Socialist Lechia (See Slavic Lechia), Roman Catholic Foot (See Roman Catholic Federation), and everyone's favorite, United Moosachusetts (See United Massachusetts), who threatened to run for President on a campaign platform of moose equality, and adding the "Moose" tag to the region, clearly a spoof of the true UM's platform. Right to Life's population has since declined, but still sits above its record. In the meantime, endorsements for the Delegate, the United Empire of New Missouri, have soared to nearly forty. Despite what some in the World Assembly would have you think, the movement for life on NationStates is still strong and vibrant. |

RIGHT TO LIFE NEWSLETTER Speaking Up. Defending Life. ![]() Published June XX, 2017 Regional Main Page | Offsite Regional Forums Editor's Note: As I'm sure you've noticed, we haven't been too active lately. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused--we had a long stretch: finals for students, the personal leave of our Founder, and a general decline in regional activity. However, I'm proud to say that we're back up and running, providing you the news you need to know and keeping you up-to-date on the movement to abolish abortion, arguably the greatest evil of our time. As Mother Teresa once said, "the greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me?" Together, we must stand side-by-side in defense of the right to life everywhere, and this Newsletter is more determined than ever to ensure that we can continue to do so on NationStates. United Empire of Islam Joins Pro-Life International By: United Massachusetts ![]() Pro-Life International is proud to welcome the United Empire of Islam as a full member, standing up to the rights of the unborn everywhere. They were ultimately welcomed into the group with a unanimous majority voting for its admittance. For their part, the UEI has already been active in the group, and currently stands as a significant member in size. This gain for the pro-life movement comes on the backs of a remarkable period of growth for the Diplomatic League, which watched as the League of Conservative Nations grew into a formidable force under its time as Pro-Life International. Far too often, it seems, people associate the pro-life movement at large with Christianity. However, Christianity is not by any stretch of the measure the only religion that opposes abortion. The Koran, for instance, says to "not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin." (Koran 17:31) In fact, one need not believe in God at all to see that homicide is wrong. Founder Decrees New Holiday By: Culture of Life (Christian Democrats) ![]() Founder Culture of Life (Christian Democrats) has added the International Day of the Unborn Child (March 25) to the official list of regional holidays and days of remembrance. Distributist Republics first mentioned the holiday on the regional message board, prompting the creation of a regionwide poll. The poll showed that 36 residents (95%) wanted the Founder to add the holiday and that only two residents (5%) were opposed. The International Day of the Unborn Child was started in the real world by St. John Paul (pictured above). A number of pro-life nations have officially observed it, including Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, and the Philippines. Subversive Organizations Act Passed Into Law By: United Massachusetts Following the public revelation of the Red Fleet's intent to destroy the Right to Life government, as openly admitted by Caelapes. We have spoken to you about this in a previous article--the Eighteenth Senate of Right to Life took action, enacting sweeping legislation, mostly authored by Founder Culture of Life, to require members of subversive organizations, such as the Red Fleet to reveal themselves as such before applying for office, among other measures designed to protect the security of Right to Life. A noted piece of the proposal was a provision that held the allies of subversive organizations to be blameless for the actions of those they had affiliation with. This was in large part a response to a policy devised by CAIN, which asserted that those holding embassies with a Nazi region somehow collaborated with them. Right to Life continues to reject such beliefs as being detrimental, rude, and inaccurate. An interesting proposal was made by the Founder, Culture of Life, to ban the flying of a subversive flag, such as that of the Red Fleet, with the intent to promote said organization. This was rejected by the Senate, as United Massachusetts held that such proposals were akin to the "Red Flag Laws" in California among other places, which were struck down by Stromberg vs. California in 1931. The proponents countered that the proposed regulation in Right to Life was much more limited. June 2017 Senatorial Election Results By: United Massachusetts ![]() In the race to elect the Senate of Right to Life, one of the most thrilling political adventures in Right to Life history occurred, filled with campaign deals and backroom dealings. Initially, the Patrimony of Saint Peter (RTF), United Massachusetts (LLC), the RCS (CFP), the Roman Catholic Federation (RTF), and Stellonia (IND) stepped forward, each running on an intriguing platform. Issues such as the communist threat, wages, discrimination, Pro-Life International, and the governmental reform. His failure in the early polling forced United Massachusetts to withdraw from the race, at which point he struck a deal with the RCS and Stellonia, securing support for Proposition One, his proposed anti-discrimination policy, and wage increases, both perennial platform points of his, in an exchange for endorsement, leading to a rush of campaigning between the two to keep the Roman Catholic Federation out of office, thereby creating a hung parliament. Sure enough, this panned out, with the RCS and Stellonia each got elected with 7 votes, while the RCF was held to 5. Following the election, exit polls showed that Stellonia swept the vote of the Liberals for Life Coalition, whilst the RCS swept his own Conservative Federalist Party. In the meantime, the RCF, who ran a valiant campaign on defending traditional values, won a majority support from his own Reactionary Traditionalist Front, not surprisingly our most right-wing party. Until the very end, it appeared to be close and could swing any way. Now, the new Senate is a Hung Parliament which will be forced to tackle issues like electoral reform, whilst still holding true to their promises to the voters. Democracy in Right to Life shines bright yet again. Record-Setting Spring Lifts Regional Spirits By: United Massachusetts This previous winter, Right to Life saw a relative lull in activity, as, for the first time in over two years, the region fell out of the Top 100 in population. By: The RCS ![]() After the death of Antonin Scalia in February of 2016, the Supreme Court of the United States was left with only eight of the nine judges usually on the court. Seeing an opportunity to give the Supreme Court a liberal leaning, then President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy left by Scalia. This nomination came in the middle of 2016, but the Republicans stated an unspoken rule that presidents don't get to nominate justices in their last year in order to justify their refusal to even hold a hearing on the President's nomination. Steadfast in that idea, the Republican-led senate held off the vote on Garland to see who would win the Presidency. With Trump the victor, Garland never received another thought. Two months into Trump's presidency he nominated a conservative judge named Neil Gorsuch. Gorsuch, a judge of the 10th Circuit Courts of the US and an Alumni of Columbia, Harvard, and Oxford Universities, was held with much fanfare for many conservatives throughout the US. Gorsuch was confirmed by the US Senate in April of 2017, filling the vacancy of Scalia more than a year after his death. This appointment by Trump came with some jubilation by both sides of the aisle in Right to Life thanks to his Pro-Life position on Abortion, but also some hesitance from some left-leaning members who thought he did not deserve to be there in the first place. [nation]New Dolgaria[/nation], the cofounder of the Liberal for Life Coalition, a political party in Right to Life, had this to say on the appointment of Gorsuch: "As far as conservative judges go, I don't see anything particularly wrong with him. One of Trump's saner appointments." For the right-leaning nations of Right to Life, the appointment came with much praise. Former President of the region, [nation]Phydios[/nation], had this to say on his appointment: "In an age where the Supreme Court is given more legislative power than Congress, Justice Gorsuch is a wonderful man to have on it. I fully trust him to protect states' rights, fight against judicial overreach, and interpret the Constitution according to the original intent of its authors. He is a worthy replacement for Justice Scalia." Time will tell if Gorsuch is the true conservative that many think he is, or if he will turn out to be a more moderate justice such as Kennedy. From the limited sample so far, Gorsuch has already sided with the other conservative justice Thomas in a 7-2 decision recently. Regardless of whether or not Gorsuch was your ideal judge, he's a member of the Supreme Court and most likely will be there a long time. Edited by United Massachusetts, Monday Jun 19 2017, 09:33 PM.

Contests in the Lifemarket Two contests were held in the regional marketplace, or Lifemarket, in June. In the first contest, five Right to Life citizens placed bets on the outcome of the United Kingdom general election. The RCS won the 30-lifemark jackpot. Two days before the election, he predicted that the Conservative Party would win 320 seats and form a coalition or minority government. In reality, the Conservatives won 318 of 650 seats, barely keeping Prime Minister Theresa May in power. The second contest was to predict the outcome of the NBA Finals in the United States. Four citizens entered, and the Imperial States of Maryland won the jackpot of 48 lifemarks. He correctly predicted that the Golden State Warriors would defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in game five of the best-of-seven series. Adopted in August 2014, the lifemark is the official currency of Right to Life. At present, more than 7500 lifemarks are in circulation with each new citizen receiving 100 lifemarks from the Bank of Right to Life upon applying for them. Lifemarks can be used to purchase private goods and services as well as certain public services, and they are often used for wagers in the Lifemarket. |
