Come on, Slapper. It's time to end this new allegiance you have with the Vegas Golden Knights. You're still a New York Ranger fan and deep down inside you know it. I've been a diehard Ranger fan since I started watching hockey in the late 70's. Since that time, it's been a rollercoaster of heartbreak, euphoria, more heartbreak, and every emotion in between. That's what sports is; a never ending tapestry of fleeting moments. The Rangers suck right now and no one is happy about it. Yeah, we all rail against the corporate family-friendly hockey stuff, as is our right. Our rewards for being Ranger fans have been very scarce as far as championships go, but that's not why I root for the Rangers. I root for that red white and blue jersey with the diagonal RANGERS lettering across the chest, I root for my city, and I root for my team despite it all. And every once in a blue moon, like in 1994, some magic happens. Many teams have won multiple Stanley Cups before then and since then, but that one Cup was more memorable and satisfying than all of those other one's combined. We all know what it was like to bear witness to the end of 54 years of frustration and that made it all the more special, never having jumped off the bandwagon and never conveniently jumped back on like lukewarm fans of other teams do. How do you think it felt to be a Chicago Cubs fan when they won their first World Series in 108 years? To quote a famous proverb: "He who cannot endure the bad will not live to see the good". Just some food for thought and a gentle reminder to keep things in the proper perspective, and forgive me if I sound like Luke Skywalker trying to bring Darth Vader back from the dark side. LET'S GO RANGERS!!!! Peace. Len (aka Double R)

Thanks Double R. You make a lot of great points and believe me when I tell you that they all have crossed my mind the last two months. You are right we have all endured many things with this team and we will probably all endure many more days of hardship as well. I guess we can all come up with a laundry list of things that piss us off about this team but for me personally I need at least one or two of my peeves to be gone before I can even get myself to turn the Channel back on. I hate Dolan and Sather and unfortunately nothing will ever change there and truthfully I don't ever expect that to change so I learned to accept that. The Coach is my final straw and I see no reason why he should have made it out of January and as long as he is the Coach I can not get myself to even concern myself with this team. I am also irritated in how this team went about this whole situation and how they got here in the first place. I am also irritated that they tried selling us a bill of goods as if this team had a chance and were going for it. I am not irritated that I got duped by them because some of us knew long before and seen this coming for the last couple years. I just can not get myself to unconditionally root for this team anymore. I feel the organization has been milking the fans and the reason why we are in this position is because they decided to just collect a check the last several years. They are the richest team in the sport and they are afforded all the tools and resources to ensure there is a revolving door of talent coming and going in this organization. A sports team is the only business where all you have to do is show up to make your money. I could only imagine if I had to rebuild my business every few years just so I can be good enough to finish a job. Then in the mean time I just get to show up and collect a check doing half assed work. Actions speak louder then words and so far I think they did more lip service than anything else. Most of the deadline deals were going to happen anyway unless we were in the top 3 of winning the cup. I thought the JT Miller trade was more telling then anything else because even though you have to give to get. I think it had more to do with player coach relationship then the players ability to play. Meaning AV will be here next year and they chose to get rid of the problem child instead. But I really need to see this coach out of here and anything less then the Monday after the season ends being his last will not be suffice. I also need to see what they do this summer with not only the draft but who they bring in with Free Agency. They can pick up all the kids they want but if they all end up being wished away in the cornfield in exchanged for some older win now FA's. It will just be more of the same. It is hard not being here chiming in every day but it is hard to chime in when you are not watching. Being a Ranger forum and the talk being about the Rangers, makes it a little difficult to say anything without sounding too stupid. As for Vegas, I got to pick somebody for the playoffs and they are the only team in the league I do not hate so it was a easy choice. Plus I had a bit of a liking for the whole concept of a Vegas team from day one before there even was one and it makes you scratch your head and wonder why they never went there in the first place instead of Arizona. I also think they did a really good job with that team and there is no star players there. They play like a team and everyone just does their job. They proved in the NHL you don't have to have a roster of big time names. I am sure they will have their problems and I can not see myself ever becoming a diehard fan because they are just too far away and the time zone just does not work for me. But for the time being it gives me a playoff team to root for being the Rangers won't be one.

Ok Slapper, time to bump up this thread. Now that the finals are over and the clock struck 12 on the Vegas Knights Cinderella season, I would say this is the perfect time for you to change your avatar to something a little more..oh I dunno...New York Rangerish, yes? Come on, jump back on board. I'll put the gangplank out for ya.
