Lots of fighting in college hockey. I'm sure everyone here will be overjoyed. |

For the hundredth time - it's not "fighting" we're interested in seeing. It's big, strong, aggressive, physical, rough, tough, rock 'em, sock 'em, SMASH-MOUTH hockey we want to see. The brand of hockey 30 other teams play in the NHL. Watch the playoffs. Are we seeing fighting? No. Are teams playing SMASH-MOUTH hockey? Most definitely YES. Philadelphia Flyers head coach Dave Hackstol was a college coach at North Dakota before being hired by the Flyers, and Hackstol's Flyers don't take a step back from anybody or pass up a chance to pop somebody's helmet or rub someone out along the boards. BTW some good fighters and tough customers have come out of college hockey. George McPhee was a Hobie Baker Award winner at Bowling Green State University, for one example. |

I know nothing about Quinn but here is an interesting article about him. https://foreverblueshirts.com/david-quinn-rangers-head-coach/ And I especially like this section......hope it's true............... Quinn’s Style Alain Vigneault’s coaching style would be considered relaxed. He allowed the players to police the room and in that, his demise was imminent with the influx of youth coming in, as that kind of coaching style was more suited for a room full of veterans. Quinn, on the other hand, seems like the complete opposite of that style, as he is vocal and commands the room, putting players on notice whenever they are not performing and puts himself out there when the team does not do well. He also requires his team to play a smart and physical style game, a style that has been lacking on many Rangers teams for numerous seasons. That and the emphasis on defense and being responsible is something Rangers fans should be excited to look forward to if he indeed does get hired by the club. Requires his team to play smart and physical? Ok..........I like him already. |

Here is Larry Brooks described Quinn's style: He is hands-on and promotes a straight-line, puck-pressure game with a physical bent to it. |

Great to hear, especially after putting up with the gum-chewing Mr Softie behind the bench. It'll be nice to have a coach who actually coaches and wants physical play. |

I must be watching a different set of playoff games. Yeah, occasionally there is a big hit. Just like in the regular season. I will confess that last night when the NHL was on I was watching the Yankees. Without a rooting interest ( i.e., the Rangers ) they have made hockey boring. At one time I would never have thought that possible. |

You're right, you MUST be watching a different set of playoff games. I have watched virtually every playoff game in its entireity, and in every game I am seeing chippy, rough, tough, physical, aggressive, bone-jarring, helmet-popping, board-rattling, rock 'em, sock 'em, SMASH-MOUTH hockey being played by every team. In virtually every game there are scrums with pushing, shoving, grabbing by the collar, headlocks, chest to chest, face to face and nose to nose physical confrontations. Tom Wilson was suspended 3 games for breaking an opponent's jaw with a hard hit. On more than one occasion Dustin Byfuglien has had his big fists on two opponents at once - one in each hand. Here's a sample of what you've been missing: Dustin Byfuglien Rag Dolls two Predators Dustin Byfuglien vs. 2 players "Yeah, occassionally there is a big hit." There is a big hit on virtually every shift of every game, all game long. Obviously, you haven't been watching. Maybe watching slow-paced, deliberate, boring baseball has dulled your brain. If you'd rather watch May baseball than playoff hockey, then hockey's not for you. Playoff hockey is a MAN'S GAME. Edited by NoMore1940, May 20 2018, 07:16 PM.

His "style" was coaching college kids in an abbreviated season. This is a wait and see how he does kind of hire. Any suggestion of how he is going to do is just a throw of a dart. Find it funny that a few years ago they didn't hire Ted Nolan because they thought his knowledge of the players in the league wasn't up to snuff. Guess that doesn't matter anymore. |

Who said that? Obviously there is a time and a place for fighting. It's part of the game. |
