In today's MLB Pipeline's mock draft, both Callis and Mayo have the same picks through #6. Mize Bart Madrigal Singer India Bohm https://www.mlb.com/news/mock-draft-for-first-round-of-2018-mlb-draft/c-279699234 If it's Bohm, we're projecting big time mid lineup power with Alonso and Bohm right hand hitting bread sandwiching the lefty Conforto if things stay as is. Given the dire need for speed and athleticism here I'm skittish with what I read of the kid Brohm. He's reportedly a one trick pony who at 6'5" 240 is projected to hit for power but can't field or run a lick. Do we really want to add another prospect here who's career may only qualify for the position of DH? If not taking the India route(via GPS???) I'd be on board for one of the young LHP's projected to be an inning eating starter. Should catcher Joey Bart slide onto our lap that would be okay too.

Lucky, from this MLB Pipeline Draft video, he appears to contradict the speed rankings with long, smooth strides of a fit athlete covering plenty ground. https://www.mlb.com/video/2018-draft-alec-bohm-3b/c-1868832683?tid=262722544 Edited by Tolerance, Jun 4 2018, 04:29 PM.

Conforto was legitimately slow - ranked 40/80 but has done tremendous job improving running mechanics now a tick above average. Conforto running to second pre-draft 2014: Looks awkward, a dork. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2014/#list=draft Edited by Tolerance, Jun 4 2018, 04:41 PM.

I brought up some concerns about Bohm on page 1 as well. Of course he could slim down, but I just don't know how much faster he could get if he's already around 240 lbs. And if he does, would that in turn affect his power? Too early to know one way or another, but just something to think about. But also read a lot of reports that link him to 1B in the future with questionable defense at 3B already. If he can handle 3B though, there's potentially a lot of pop in the middle of the lineup in the near future with him, Alonso, Conforto - and who knows what happens with Smith. |

OK, Alec Bohm is one of 6 in MLB Network studio who came for the New York tour and be there when selected. They just interviewed Alec Bohm who Harold Reynolds compares to Kris Bryant, seems kind of shy and is a Yankees fan. Edited by Tolerance, Jun 4 2018, 05:10 PM.

Did you look at the video? Bohm is fit and has long strides. I don't see a problem with his wheels nor his build. Harold Reynolds compares him to Kris Bryant. The 240 listing may be inaccurate, but even if it isn't, just use your eyes. 6'5" 240, nothing odd about that. I'll withhold judgment on defense till I see his tools and project growth. He he may not even be available at #6 anyway. Edited by Tolerance, Jun 4 2018, 05:20 PM.

Lucky, MLB Network is showing a feature on Nolan Gordon and Matt Liberatore - they're very good friends since 2005,, grew up together. Their families are very close. How ironic, you want Loberatore, and I, Gordon. Perhaps one of us will get our wish. Edited by Tolerance, Jun 4 2018, 05:34 PM.

I did not, but I'm also not a scout who can make a real judgement based on videos of him running. I'm simply going by what the scouting reports say about him, which is that he's big bodied and not a burner. And that there's questions about his defense at 3b due to bad footwork and range, thus he may be better suited for 1b. Though they do say he has a strong arm. I don't have any real opinion on the kid, just been reading some stuff on him today. Who knows? And only brought up his size because you compared him to Conforto, who is 6'1 215. Not exactly apples to apples. But agree, we may be discussing someone who is not even available or for all we know, even a target for this team. Edited by TuffleShuffle, Jun 4 2018, 05:33 PM.

Carter Stewart is a beast of a pitcher. Just watched some video through MLBN. He's also in studio live. |

Mayer is jsut a writer for MMO but he does follow minors/draft closely. No idea who is his source however, or if this is just pre-draft mind games. @mikemayerMMO “The latest information has the Mets leaning towards Wisconsin outfielder Jarred Kelenic, but they are still shopping.” Actually just stumbled upon a few mock drafts that have him as the pick too? You've misunderstood. I didn't compare his body with Conforto's. I posted pre draft video of Conforto's running style and lack of foot speed which at the time was accurately ranked below average at 40/80. I posted that as comparison to Bohm's ranking of 35 which really defies the eye test in that from what I've seen, looks to have solid running tools and covers a descent amount of ground with his long strides and smooth form. Conforto worked really hard to turn below average foot speed and poor running mechanics into solid running mechanics and statcast data which puts his foot speed now at slightly above average. My point being, scouting reports aren't always an accurate assessment of draft pick potential and current state of tools and skills. I follow that up with eye test and trust what I see. And that also includes getting to know a player's mental make up which ultimately factors in development. Look what Conforto did to turn below average foot speed and sub par defense into solid big league outfield skills now even playing CF. He's really not an ideal CF but is nonetheless not embarrassing himself and does an OK job. Edited by Tolerance, Jun 4 2018, 05:54 PM.

He's a good prospect but as raw high school kid, will take long time to get here. I've seen some video. Good arm and aggressive scooping and throwing. I think however Nolan Gorman also a prep player could be on the fast track with mature body and skills. In about a half hour we'll know who lastest Mets hope is. OK, Casey Mize off the board at #1 increasing the chances of Mets getting one of the top 4 position players - Bohm, India, Bart, Madrigal. |
