The first thing that came to mind was Game 6 vs. the Montreal Canadiens in the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals. We watched that game in a motel room in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia while on vacation in eastern Canada. Dominic Moore scored the only goal of the game, and the Rangers advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1994. The Rangers' play was superlative, limiting the Canadiens to very few shots; and I don't think they gave up one quality scoring chance the whole game. One of the best Rangers performances I have ever seen. The 2015 team went on a magical run the second half of the season, led by goaltender Cam Talbot when Henrik Lundqvist was sidelined with an injury (fractured trachea, if I recall). That was one of the best Rangers teams since 1994. They were practically unbeatable, and Talbot's play was stellar. When Lundqvist returned the Rangers had the best record in the league. I really thought they were going all the way. I remember a friend of mine asked me "Who do you go with in goal?" I said "You've got to go with the hot hand, until he falters. Talbot brought them to this point. Stick with him." Lundqvist was put back in, and the rest is history. During the off-season, GM Glen Sather GIFTED Talbot to the Edmonton Oilers (Sather's former team) for 3 later-round draft picks. No reason for it - Talbot was under contract for another year at a bargain rate. It was Sather's last move before stepping down as GM. It really made me question whether Sather was loyal and acting in the best interests of the Rangers or the Oilers. There is just no denying that move helped the Oilers more than it helped the Rangers. Edited by NoMore1940, Jun 16 2018, 06:57 PM.

That’s an easy one. It’s when the Rangers took a chance on a young rookie goaltender by the name of Henrik Lundqvist over mediocre veteran Kevin Weekes in 2004. We went from the laughing stock of the NHL to respectability almost immediately. All the moments this franchise has had since then wouldn’t have been possible without him. |

Nomore, Talbot was awful for Edmonton last year, not entirely his fault, the Oilers defense was equally atrocious and this offseason they're taking calls on him already. He is a good goalie, an excellent backup, but Henrik is a legend. Cam needs to do a hell of a lot more in his life before we can discuss that trade. If your point is that the Rangers should have gotten more in return, I can agree with that.

The Rangers absolutely should have gotten a better return for Talbot. The story goes that Sather was offered a 1st round pick for Talbot, either from San Jose or Tampa I believe, which Sather should have jumped on but instead he balked thinking he could get more. The clock ticked, the team that made us the offer quickly made a deal with another team, and Sather was left with his dick in his hand and had to settle for the deal we ended up with. A sad example of a washed up hockey GM not pulling the trigger when he should have and ended up shooting himself in the foot. Edited by Double R, Jun 17 2018, 09:07 PM.
