This comes as a shock and maybe he is still upset they did not renew his contract in the beginning of the season. He says it is for family reasons but teams like the Islanders are already trying to land him so it is not because he is done with Hockey.

So Trotz becomes the first NHL head coach since Mike Keenan in 1994 not to return to his team's respective bench after winning the Stanley Cup.

Actually the last time was Scotty Bowman in 2002

There was a contract clause that renewed his contract for 2 years with a $300g raise if they won the cup. Perhaps he did not like the terms?

He was with the Caps for 4 seasons and he did what he needed to do. He can now make significantly more money on the open market now that he's got a fresh Stanley Cup on his resume. I fully expect the Fishsticks to make a major push to get him behind their bench.

Anybody here listen to Spittin' Chiclets? The Podcast...During the playoffs, one of the guys said he had inside information that Trotz was not planning on coming back after this year, regardless of what would happen. I remembered this comment throughout the playoffs and it seemed to come true. 5 years at 5 mil per is reportedly what he asked, seems like that's asking for a lot and this Capitals team should be decent going forward regardless of who's coaching the team.

Going from the Caps to the fishsticks would definitely be moving from the penthouse to the shithouse.

WOW! I was reading the article and still can not believe it. They must have thrown a load of money at him. Also, When the hell did Lou Lamoriello become GM of the Fishsticks ?
