So what's going to happen with this guy? It's a shame the Knicks got him when he was broken down. Same old story. Always two years too late.

I really would like to keep him around in a mentor role for our young players. There is no better person to learn defense, toughness, and team ball from than Noah.

If Kanter opts out, he could find himself starting at the 5.

I hope so. The Knicks have a lot of hard working, high motor players. A great environment for the 2 rookies.

From a defensive mindsight, Noah could be a good mentor for a Robinson.

For Robinson and Knox.

yeah but being that Robinson plays the same situation, he can take him under his wing.

Even if Kanter opts-in, I think Noah will be at the 5 with Kanter at the 4.

I'm trying to figure out the depth chart. Let's assume Beasley is back, something like this?

Noah/Robinson
Kanter/Beasley/Lance Thomas
THJ/Knox/Lance Thomas
Lee/Frank/Dotson
Mudiay/Burke

I'm shocked they didn't move Lee for a late 1st or even some 2nds. I don't think he'll make it in NY through the season. That enables THJ to slide to his more natural 2 position, and Knox entering the starting lineup - if he's ready. And more reps for the young guards.

Wow you clearly have a high opinion of Mudiay. I don't think he is a starter.

Jack
Hardaway
Thomas
Knox
Kanter

Ntilikina
Lee
Mudiay
Dotson
Burke

I forgot about Jack. I don't think he's in the plans honestly.

My thought about Mudiay is more about the way Fiz has talked about him. I don't think Burke is the answer as a starter but better as a 6th man/combo guard, and Frank looked to be better off-ball.

I also think Knox won't begin the year as a starter and they'll ease him in. He's only 18.

It's not great talent by any means but they do have depth to make some interesting lineup decisions. Even though I expect less than 30 wins, I'm excited.

Only reason I have Knox as a starter is because there really isn't anyone there who can compete with him at the 4. Jack has value as a mentor type. The Knicks have lots of those. They should keep them all around till the All Star break, then go full tank.

Like I suggested, Kanter could play the 4 with Noah at the 5. Fiz also compared Lance Thomas to Draymond Green earlier. And I think Beasley comes back and he can play there.

I think Knox at the 4 at age 18 in that body is a mistake. He'll get pushed around by other bigs. In time, he could certainly end up there, just not right away unless they are going small ball.

I forgot about Beasley. I don't see Kanter at the 4. He can't space the floor. Coach is on crack if he's comparing Lance Tomas to Draymond Green.

I guess he's been hanging out with Lamar Odom.

He said this back in May:

"He's a Swiss Army knife-type of player that can guard multiple positions and you can run offense through him," the coach said on WFAN. "I think he can push the ball off the break a lot like Draymond Green plays. Obviously the thing I'm going to demand from Lance is to play defense like Draymond. And be a guy that's pushing to be a First Team All-Defender."

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/david-fizdale-believes-lance-thomas-can-be-knicks-version-of-draymond-green/

And though I agree Kanter isn't really an outside threat, both he and Fiz have already been discussing adding that to his game. Saw this earlier from Rotoworld, citing a NYPost article:

Enes Kanter said that, should he re-sign with New York, Knicks coach David Fizdale wants him to shoot more 3-pointers next season.
Kanter has until Friday to decide whether he will opt into the final year of his contract. However, it would be quite surprising if he left $18.6 million on the table. Assuming he's back in New York for 2018-19, we can expect an uptick in treys. "[Fizdale] told me he wants me to stretch the floor next year by making 3’s and I’m working on it,’’ Kanter said. "I feel more comfortable taking them and more confident. Coach Fiz wants me to start taking them. If my coach says take them, I’m not going to say no. I’ll start shooting them in practice and then in the game."
