Sweet blood and hot water

Raindrops fell on the ground making soft sounds she loved so much. They were like a lullaby to her, calming her down. Ever since she had been little Kasumi felt save when there was rain around her. Even the smell of it gave her a good feeling, the refreshing scent of the water that would wash away all your worries. Running through the curtain of liquid that had fallen over her village the young Shinobi hid beneath a tree for a brief moment. After having checked her surroundings Kasumi was certain that nobody was around. Taking the few moments to read the scroll she memorized everything that was in it. Once done the Shinobi allowed the scroll catch fire. It was a way to make sure that nobody else would ever see what was in it. No enemy, no random spy and nobody who didn’t have a thing to do with it.

The mission wasn’t something rather new to her. Since the war some of the scrolls had gone missing, which wasn’t a good thing. So from time to time, ninja’s were sent to recover them. It had to be done in order to keep the secrets of the village. Things could get dangerous for everyone if certain scrolls were lost or revealed. Most of the time Kasumi had no idea what was written inside of them, but that didn’t matter. Knowing it was of no importance, because the mission was to simply recover them. A few cold drops made their way down her neck after rolling past her hoody. The time had come to get moving, there was no time to lose.

It’d be a long trip, but Kasumi was used to those. Jumping into one of the trees next to her she let her eyes dwell around her. There shouldn’t be too many problems on the way. Shouldn’t.. Though they did appear most of the time due to some bad luck she had. Licking her lips the pale female smoothly made her way between the trees. Making sure not to touch anything otiose to not to let any marks behind she progressed rather quickly. Sneaking around had always been one of her favorite occupations and it looked like her little hobby had its advantages. The rain was still pouring heavily, forcing the leaves to rustle all around her. The young Shinobi felt great, as the darkness of the forest consumed her bit by bit.

Slowly but certainly the mist that covered the forest started to disappear a bit, while the raining became softer. Making no noise she moved further knowing that she was almost at the borders of her own land. Soon she’d reach the land of fire where she’d have to pay more attention than she was doing now. Moving through your own land was much easier than someone else’s. You knew your own ground very well, while with the enemies’ one.. that would be a whole different story. Allowing herself to land on a rock she looked around. The sun was coming up in the distance turning her gaze annoyed for a second. Something about the big golden orb, she simply did not like. Perhaps it was the warmth it gave off, or the blinding light? It didn’t matter what it was, it just annoyed her.

Having moved above the ground for the whole time she stretched her arms a bit. She hadn’t used them, holding her hands in her pockets during her jumps after the few first miles. A high scream made her jump into the tree nearby hiding. Not sure if someone would approach rather quickly Kasumi listened concentrated. There was no sound to be heard, no noise at all. Wondering if she should let it be or check it out another scream tore the silence. Without debating any longer the Chuunin crisscrossed through the forest on her way towards the sound. It was on her way anyway, besides, if there were people in trouble that were from her village she’d have to help. As she came closer, a rather strange scenario appeared in front of her eyes.

A big pool of crimson liquid covered a piece of the forest’s soil. Silently Kasumi’s eyes went to the side of it to discover the dead body whose blood it must have been. From her point of view it seemed to be a man. A simple man without any characteristics of a Shinobi. He was lying there, on the dirty cold ground, all carved up. On his side you could see a young woman, sitting on her knees all stained in blood. Her hands were shaking as she tried to wake up the man in a hopeless attempt to revive him. Despair hung around this little piece of ground, making the air a bit heavy. Kasumi didn’t have to look for a long time to find the cause of all this. A man, covered in black and dark green was sitting on a tree branch. His heavy boots had bloody spikes on them, as if he had kicked the body on the ground a few times. A cigar could be seen in the corner of his mouth when he blew out a big cloud of smoke. “Stop whining, you are next anyway.” His hard and low voice echoed through the small space, making Kasumi wonder how confident he must have been about himself. The woman looked up with red eyes from crying sniffing before getting up slowly. There was a katana on the ground, perhaps the man who was dead had been trying to use it in order to defend the woman or himself. Well it seemed that he had failed to do so, which wasn’t a big surprise seeing as the man with the cigar had the sign of a ninja. It looked like he was one of the ninja’s from the Hidden Leaf, which amazed her. Thinking for a moment she wondered if it’d be alright to interfere. She had no idea what was going on and perhaps he was ordered to execute them. On the other side, they seemed to be in the Land of the Rain. Which meant that these people shouldn’t be from The land of Fire, making it rather complicated.

“Give me back the stone or die!” Dropping the cigar on the cold ground he spit next to it putting it out with his heavy boot. The woman backed off from the dead body while a soft cry pulled Kasumi’s attention. It was the sound of a child, a baby. “You filthy thieves, I’ll kill that little brat of yours first, so you can watch it die.” The man disappeared from sight leaving the woman in a wave of panic. But the Chuunin who had been paying attention could see that his motions were rather slow to her. As her gazed followed him she saw how he took something that looked like package from behind of a big tree. The noises seemed to be coming from there as the woman started to run towards the hostile ninja.

“Let go.” The sharp edge of Kasumi’s katana was pressing against the man’s throat. It drew a little amount of blood that ran down towards his collar over his skin. Her right hand held the hilt of her weapon as she was standing with her back towards him. Her blue eyes had a dangerous glow in them while she waited for him to move. It’d be foolish to underestimate her; it’d be deadly for him to do so. Her left hand was in her pocket again while the scarf was covering her mouth and nose like before. Together with her hoody it made nearly impossible to see if she was a male or a female. The only thing that gave her away now, had been her soft voice.

You could see that the man was about to rage when he suddenly crushed the child’s head. As the woman cried out in shock and horror pieces of wood fell on the ground next to his feet. With a soft poofing sound Kasumi disappeared just to be seen on a tree branch behind the female, holding the real child. As the man’s hand touched his own throat his eyes widened when he felt that the blood that had been drawn was real. “How..?” There was some confusion in his eyes and Kasumi sighed. “Kage Bunshin no Jutsu.” A grin appeared on her pale face, though it was covered and shrouded from her opponent’s eyes. Was he inexperienced or just trying to catch her attention? About to give the child to the woman on the ground she saw that something was wrong. It was as if she wasn’t happy to see the Shinobi at all. But why would she-? Her thought was abrupt when the female appeared behind her. Damn, it had been a transformation technique; she had actually almost fallen for it. Luckily, Kasumi’s speed had the upper hand again, dodging the upcoming attack while holding the child. There was one thing for sure, the child was real and there was a stone attached to the bracelet it had.
