Polish Armed Forces Announces New, Canceled Contracts WARSAW, POLAND (September 2015) -- The Polish Ministry of National Defense announced today that the Polish Army would be receiving 400 new Anders armored vehicles in the next 4 years as part of the Polish Army's modernization. The Anders will replace the BMP-1 armored vehicles which were put into storage last year, and will help augment the KTO Rosomak's already in service with the Polish Army. However, the Polish Ministry of Defense also announced that two major programs for the Polish armed Forces would be restarted. The Missile Defence System program, which was projected to replace the Polish Army's aging air defence system, will be restarted, according to Polish Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak. The project will also be reoriented to focus on procuring a "viable air defence system that can defeat both missiles and aircraft in equal measure", the Defense Minister was quoted as saying. Also, the Polish Fighter Program is being restarted after the aircraft that was previously declared the winner was deemed "unsuitable for replacing the MiG-29's in service". The total number of aircraft to be ordered has also been downsized, from the original 72 aircraft to 64 aircraft. |

The Marine Brigade will be based on board the Polish Navy's new French-built amphibious assault ship, the ORP Warswaza, and will be used as a rapid reaction unit that can deploy anywhere in the world on short notice. "The Brigade will be formed from new recruits, and thus will provide additional employment for around 2000 Poles by the end of this decade", the Polish Defense Ministry spokesperson said. The first battalion of the Marine Brigade is due to be activated in 2018, with one battalion following every year thereafter. The Polish Defense Ministry also announced today that the Polish Navy's 2 Tarantul-class corvettes will be retired by November of 2017. The corvettes will be replaced by the new Gawron-class corvettes, the first of which is due to enter service in December of this year. |

The equipment, which includes tanks, helicopters, and a large amount of rocket launchers, is "to be handed over to the Ukrainian Military soon", a spokesperson for the Defense Ministry said. The equipment, which will soon be replaced by more modern equipment in Polish Army stocks, is to be shipped to the Ukraine, where it will be used to modernize Ukraine's military. According to the Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian government has promised "not to use any of this equipment against its own people". Much of the equipment is soon to be replaced by new tanks, helicopters, and other vehicles that will be entering service with the Polish Armed Forces in the next couple of months. This equipment will include several hundred new German Leopard 2 tanks, which will replace the PT-91 Twardy tanks currently in service. |

Polish Air Force Announces New Pocurement![]() WARSAW, POLAND (January 2017) -- The Polish Ministry of National Defense announced today that it would be restarting the bidding process for the Polish Air Forces new fighter aircraft. The bidding process, which was put on hold in late 2015 after a review of spending found the Polish Armed Forces were suffering from a 200% budget deficit, is to lead to the replace of the Polish Air Forces Cold War-era fighters that have been in service since the 1980's. Surprising many, however, the replacement program has been split into two separate programs; one to replace the Polish Air Forces Russian-made MiG-29 fighters, and the other to replace the Polish Air Forces Su-22 ground-attack aircraft. The second program which has been dubbed the Polish Close Air Support Aircraft Program, is aiming to replace the Su-22 aircraft with close air support and reconnaissance aircraft. While some have criticized the decision to replace the supersonic Su-22's with subsonic strike aircraft, the Polish Air Force's Commander, Lieutenant General Lech Majewski, was quoted as saying that "the decision to purchase lighter, slower close air support aircraft was not a decision of capabilities, but rather a decision of cost". Bidding is expected to close by the end of this year, and the contracts for the first batch's of aircraft are expected to be signed by the beginning of 2018. |
